    Although the even older HC-V180 Full HD Camcorder is still in production this camcorder feels like its successor, except with 4K

    Really tried to watch through all this enerving background music, quit after 8 minutes. Maybe it's just me but I can't listen to videos with too much background music. Less is more in that case.

    This may be the only camcorder with a rubber eyepiece viewfinder available under $1000. This is crazy important when you want to capture sports action or public performance video with just a camera and no other accoutrements.

      I need the evf in daylight. It looks like they a fazing them out on consumer models under 1000 in 4k. I've also got the fz1000 but it's not great for video while zoomed in. To much shake. I just ordered this pup, I can't wait to see the 4k video zoomed in 24x on my big screen.

      @WaybackRewind  8 дней назад +1

      I agree with you on the viewfinder. I guess it's a generational thing. You have a whole generation that grew up staring at a touchscreen that doesn't appreciate a viewinder. Being able to remote view through the wi-fi helps, but if consumers demanded viewfinders, they would come back.

    Panasonic does make nice video cam-corders. I got the HC-VX981 4k video camera. The only difference between mine and yours is the extra camera lenses, which I wouldn't use anyways.
    I use this camera on every one of my RUclips videos. It works great with all my Canon DSLRs, since I'm always shooting with more than one angle/ view.

      @mysolardog Great question. Every video I have shot since I bought it have been shot with this camera.
      RUclips compression notwithstanding, look at the test footage video, I shot in 4k/30 and mastered at 50 MB/sec. Watch that on a big screen. I doubt you would see any difference between 4k/30p and 4k/60p unless it's really fast moving subject. Thanks for watching.

    I wonder if a Firmware update will fix a few issues? In any case for the most part I bought this camera in 2019 & it's been great if you don't count the features that don't work in 4K. I don't normally use the 4K res anyway because the file sizes are too big & many computers can't play them it's too data intensive for them. I mostly got it for the manual controls in so many areas & massive image sensor which makes it very light sensitive also the viewfinder which is really good at not distracting others behind the camera. Great camera for what I do

    Got this cam a few weeks ago. I better test an external mic. I do thinik it has to be selected in settings. I thought the internal mic works well. I have shot a couple of love bands just the internal mic and thought it is very good, better than smartphones IMO. It is too bad it can't take a photo while shooting 4k. As for the other things on your list that it can't do, most of those can all be done in post in any NLE and that is the better way to do it, vs being stuck with those options permanently part of the video if done in cam. Also, this cam does have enough to do cinematic if one wants. A versatile lens, 24FPS, manual control, and 30FPS can slowed down in editing for a subtle film/dream like effect.

      You asked a very good question and it's not answered in the owner's manual. Took me a minute to figure it out. Date or Date/Time or Off are in the playback menu but even when selected neither are displayed what's the deal? Turns out if you have display set to "on" versus "5 sec" the date or date/time won't display during playback. Kind of annoying. After 5 sec the date or date/time will appear.
      Either way the information is stored in the meta data but if you want it displayed you have to turn display to "5 sec" not "on". Kind of counter intuitive.

    This camera has a 2x bigger sensor, so you need bigger optics. That said, I've compared the picture quality between this and the V180 extensively. This camera adds a LOT of mpeg artifacts, and the dither pattern uses long, wide dots that are more noticeable than the more natural grain on the V180. It also adds a weird, unnatural smeared texture look to tree leaves etc and, desaturates colors. With the lower optical zoom (24x vs 59x on the V180, and the fact that most of the features don't even work in 4k (no scene mode or surround? really?) while the HD quality is pretty much unusable, I consider this a downgrade from the V180. Maybe it's better for shooting macro, but the picture in less detailed shots is meh. You can get a DSLR that will shoot film quality 4k video for the price of this, plus amazing stills. Hell, my 2 year old phone shoots awesome HDR 4k 60p or 8k 30p video with Dolby Atmos for the same price! All it needs is a better optical zoom...

      Thank you for the insightful comments.
      They didn't teach us decimal fractions in engineering school so it didn't jump out at me that 1/2.5 was twice as big as 1/5.8. 😃
      I debated for a long time about buying this camcorder. I didn't mention it in the video but I actually bought it used a couple of years ago but it was defective and I sent it back.
      Yes an entry level DSLR is probably better in most ways. But the autofocus for video suffers on many of them until you are way above the price point of this camera. And a DSLR requires a host of lenses to be as useful as this.
      I have a Lumix FZ300 4k bridge camera that costs half as much as this with a similar sensor and zoom range probably out performs it.
      So in the end the 15% reduction in price and 5 payments no interest option from Amazon, pushed me over the edge to fill this gap in my camera inventory. And also allowed me to share the experience with my viewers. I find myself buying gear just to make a video about it.😁
      I also didn't buy this to be cinematic but just to shoot family videos in a somewhst more compact format. For that it seems adequate. I can't bring my FZ300 with me without feeling like a tourist.
      Thanks for watching.

    How does it compare to the SD900?

    • @WaybackRewind
      @WaybackRewind  4 месяца назад

      The Panasonic SD900 is a full HD camcorder from 2011 no longer in production, so they are not in the same class. The SD900 has a 12x lens. This is a 4k camcorder with a 24x lens. The WXF1 is going to be better in every way.

      I have never owned or used a Panasonic SD900, but if we are talking about the same camera it is a 1080p camera from 2011. No way it's better than a 4K camera from 2018. Unless you are referring to a different camera?

    • @tonyglasstv2685
      @tonyglasstv2685 4 месяца назад +1

      @@WaybackRewind No I refer to the SD900 2011. A 3CCD 1080 50P camcorder. Amazing footage for a full hd cam. As said before, I'm comparing it to the DJI pocket 2 4K footage. Same lens Leica Dicomar (optics) as current Panasonic camcorders. And if you want a cheap version to play with, there is the SD600 a no frills version, which I use as a BCam, you can pick one up for less that $100 I'm sure...

    What does installing the ring do

    • @WaybackRewind
      @WaybackRewind  9 месяцев назад

      The lens hood reduces stray light coming in at an angle that causes lens flare. Lens flare is generally considered undesireable but some directors think it's cool. Also the ring protects the lens a little bit.
      This ring is pretty small. I replaced it with a larger one for even more protection, and it looks cooler.

    can you do live streaming using your phone wifi to Panasonic HC-WXF1?

    • @WaybackRewind
      @WaybackRewind  8 месяцев назад +1

      The ability to connect the camera to the phone still works but the ability to natively live stream is no longer supported by Panasonic. They ended their deal with Ustream in 2022. There may be third party applications that work but I didnt try that. If you figure it out let me know.

    • @WaybackRewind
      @WaybackRewind  8 месяцев назад

      @Dan-no1oq The way the wi-fi works the camera only communicates with the Panasonic app on the phone. The Panasonic app was designed only to work with Ustream which is no longer supported. There is no connectivity directly to RUclips or any other social media app.
      I'm not saying it's impossible, but it would take someone to figure out how to do it. I don't know a way to do it.

      The VX 980 has the older 1/2.3" sensor and has no viewfinder. It can still be purchased new.
      Obviously anything can also be purchased used but without warranty perhaps. I bought a used WXF1 and had to return it because it was defective. I'm here talking about new cameras for that reason.
