    *- ergonomics*
*- functions designated to make video films*

"Give-a-way"???? I"m floored. I've come across two channels that just give stuff away. I am a 60 year old Canadian who feels like he's stuck in life but... well... "tries", I guess is the word. I've never BEEN hardly anywhere except that I moved to Michigan. I'd LOVE to live THERE for a tiny while! Anyway. I'm FASCINATED by your videos. THANK YOU FOR DOING THEM! I used to work at camera stores when I was a young man back in Canada. I'm only now trying to edge into video. LOTS more to learn! I have a LOT of experience in "photography" and I guess that helps. I was suffering from a health issue that made it so I could hardly carry a Nikon with a 300mm lens around my neck without dealing with a lot of pain. BUT photography is part of the healing, isn't it??? And now, things are looking up and the health is returning.
Anyway, I'm yammering on. Thank you for your wisdom and suggestions. Do you have a camera STORE or something? I can't begin to imagine just COLLECTING all that cool gear, otherwise! Cheers! :-)

Those Sony VG bodies have the best ergonomics, and are such a joy to use. I remember renting a few when they first hit the market for some pick-up shots. After years of shouldering heavy professional cams, I fell in love with the size and weight. If Sony put a current sensor with a 10-bit codec in those bodies, I would buy one immediately. Please, Sony. Bring the VG series back!

Amazing video. I can only imagine what a nightmare it must have been swapping out all of those cameras/lenses/batteries/SD cards, and all the footage. I've never seen so many camera/lens combos in one video.
My biggest takeaway from watching this is that you can get the same shot with any camera and lens combo- the only difference will be sharpness and amount of bokeh. Every shot looked the same, colorgrade, composition, etc. Pretty cool :)

Came across this channel a week ago. I love camcorders for making videos. I own a Panasonic TM 900. I think it's a great camcorder but it has a small sensor so I can't get that blurred bokeh background. After watching your review I decided that the Sony Nex VG30 was the camcorder for me. I found one for 600 bucks on e-bay and it lappeared to be in very good condition so I purchased it. I'm looking forward to making beautiful videos with it that have that awesome blurred background and a more professional cinematic ambience. Thanks for sharing your love and knowledge of photography with those of us who love to create videos and beautiful pictures. Your perspective on photography is fresh, unique and most of all practical. Much needed as there are too many choices to make a decision based on features alone. I want a camera or camcorder that will be timeless and have value to me for many years to come.

Thank you for taking the time to make this video. I made it to video from still photography. While DSLR video can achieve amazing results, there is definitely a ton of "hacking" required to make it work. In the end, it is not the most intuitive. And by the time you buy all the bells and whistles to cobble a kit together, a camcorder would have been better, easier, and cheaper. Now I know where to turn when I need video explanations and comparisons - not just the latest, or one popular model vs the other - but across entire ecosystems. Your videos are well-curated and ignore the techno-babble that I can read from the tech specs. I like the perspective your videos take. It is most helpful to here the everyday workability aspect of the equipment AND to see the side by side comparisons. Lenses, audio, internal vs external recording. This is the stuff that matters more than the specs. The specs may allow it to work, but I like to know how it actually functions and what those specs produce. THANK YOU!

I seem to be that person who buys and later the market changes and what I've bought becomes obsolete within a year.
      I started with a 35mm camera I could afford a Kowa sEtr it came with a 50mm lens and a 135mm Telephoto.
It was stolen and later replaced it with a Pentax K1000 but due to having a family all I really did was buy a couple of lenses couldn't afford alot of film processing.
Digital came around and bought a Minolta 5mp camera took some pretty good photos but gave it away when I bought a Pentax K10D. Still stuck on still photography. Shortly afterward both Pentax and Minolta are no more and Sony ends up as the beneficiary of some pretty good internal tech they needed. This is about the time 12 and 18 Mp cameras make their debut, along with video capabilities.
I also bought a Sony Handycam 8mm tape rather than VHS but you can transfer video to your PC and edit it.
Now I'd like to get a decent camera with 1080 res but all I see are el cheapo stuff or completely outta my range.
Oh well I guess it's time to stop belly achin and keep looking.

My G85 is great, but it has been relegated to a B cam and webcam because of the poor autofocus and 4K crop.
My Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II is my A cam. It's still far from perfect for video, but either of these cameras is capable of shooting 4K video that is good enough for 95% of scenarios. My E-M1 II can also autofocus very well in video.
I would love to have a real cinema camera, especially with a full-frame sensor. The Sony FX6 appeals to me a lot. Built-in ND filters are also a big deal.
Then again, I wonder if I would actually use such a camera as often. I'm just an amateur, and my backpack is already pretty rough to carry.
There are workarounds for the battery problem, especially on cameras that can be powered over USB-C. The ergonomics can be addressed with rigging, and I do have a cage and handles for my E-M1 II as well as an external monitor.
No one has figured out how to include ND filters on a hybrid camera yet, but I bet that will happen soon enough. In the meantime, my variable ND filters attached to my lenses do the job well enough.

I totally agree with the superiority of a dedicated video camera over a photo camera. I bought a GH-4 photo camera in the early days of DSLR popularity and it never did have the functionality of my video cameras. A co-worker who was doing the same kind of three-camera work I was doing for the same company had to have a whole table to assemble the rigs for his three GH-4's. The power zoom found on video cameras should be enough to dissuade people from going with a photo camera. I often plug my mics directly into the XLR inputs on my video cameras, which speeds up the shooting. Finally, the optical image stabilizers on photo cameras always seem inferior to those on video cameras. As for the differences in picture quality between your cameras, the differences are very little compared to the quality advancements one can get by properly framing the subject, getting a good white balance, proper focus, a complimentary background, an eye-catching subject and telling the story properly. A good camera put in the hands of someone with mediocre talent will not get anything close to the quality of a film made by a mediocre camera put in the hands of a skilled videographer.

It has taken me years to save up, but at the end of this month I will be buying the JVC LS300. I love the combination of APSC sensor with MFT mount. A camera that I have that would belong with these. Cameras except that it has a fixed (but superb) zoom lens is the Panasonic DVX-200. It has an MFT sensor, and all the bells and whistles like vectorscope and wave form monitor. I have had that camera for four or five years and I absolutely love that camera. It produces incredible footage. I am sure it will get a little jealous when it sees me giving love to the LS300 :)

One pleasant surprise to me for JVC LS300 was that all of my mFT lenses could cover 100% of the larger Super 35 sensor without using any cropping via JVC's Variable Scan Mapping (VSM), the only exception was my 12-100 F4.0, with which I have to apply about 84% cropping factor to avoid vignette on four corners. In other words, most of mFT lenses (my 17 F1.8, 25F1.2, 45F1.2, 60F2.8 Macro, 40-150 F2.8 were tested) covers more area than that of an mFT lens was designed for. I am glad that my mFT could be used for the Super35 sensor of JVC LS300 which has much bigger sensor area (24.89mm x 18.66mm = 464.4mm2 on Super 35 sensor vs. 17.8mm x 10mm = 178mm2 on mFT sensor at 16:9 ratio). Very smart design from JVC for choosing mFT mount on its LS300 Super 35 sensor camcorder!

Start out with your phone and see what you can do. When you outgrow that maybe head to ebay or craigslist and buy a used mirrorless or DSLR. If/when you outgrow that then graduate to things he is talking about. I am tempted to buy new stuff but I have done that too many times in my life with other hobbies things, not used them to full capacity, and think back to the money I essentially threw out. With age comes wisdom. At least that's my two cents. Best of luck in your adventures!

Hey Markus so I have to add my feedback. I found you about 2 weeks ago after a lot of youtube research on how vlogs are presented. By far you have the best quality recorded videos out there. Your expalnation is detailed and rich and to do this on multipul cameras is a lot of patience and hard work. Your clear precise and understand the technology YOU ARE the point reference on recording on the internet today! 4K yeah if people understand how many factors of recording out-way just to have 4K to get that better result they probably would buy the perfect camera if they just listend to your advice. I only have 450 in my budget so I wil get the Panasonic V800K recommended in your last camcorder video, with an understanding that most people as yet dont have a 4K TV. As YOU said its all recommendations in a budget, and dont just buy it becuase it says 4k. I have spent weeks understanding, resolution, night filming (Thermal), aperture, ISO , Light and megapixels as a technology. Compared with all available functions and options, not to mention O.I.S and gimbals. Thanks for another WONDERFUL Video. & No not interested in your give away. You gave me so much already. Everytime I wil use the camcorder YOU will be on my mind! Thanks for saving me a load of hassle & wasted money!

Very enjoyable video, Markus. Thanks for putting that together - love your tone and enthusiasm. I have owned a JVC LS300 for a couple of years and am grateful in a way it remained unfashionable because it kept the price low. It's been a very reliable workhorse for me with lots of corporate-type filming. I had even not used the live stream to RUclips function until recently but that is incredibly useful to have that built into the camera - no hardware needed to go Live. If you own the camera and have not tried this out I suggest you do. I put together a clip showing you step by step how to do including full menu walkthrough. ruclips.net/video/kZkgVMHweFI/видео.html

The mere fact that you said, *SSD stands for Solid State Drive,* made me leave a comment and thumbs UP this awesome video. Reason being that a lot of content creators may presume or think the viewers watching their content should know these technical/acronym terms. With this booming generation and RUclips being an amazing platform/outlet to teach and learn, I feel one should think about the audience you are catering to always. You may have a new buddy viewer as old as 65 or as young as 11 that is interested in getting into videography or photography, whether as a hobby or deep interest and those technical terms may be unfamiliar to them, so I feel it really helps to keep the teacher/student mindset as a content creator. Great job!!

If you'd like to shoot some black and white that looks more like 1930's serials to start with, I'd go for that softer look, and depend on lighting to focus the audience. Super high detail is used for news show studio hosts, but as they grow older, methinks they'd prefer 1960's cameras and lenses.
