- While on NHL Network a few weeks ago, Mike Rupp controversially said that the New Jersey Devils should pursue Brady Tkachuk. That's quite the take considering that Tkachuk is one of the best players on the Ottawa Senators and also their captain. He would definitely bring a lot more scoring and physicality. However, there's more to this scenario than what people realize.

Brady appears to be frustrated in Ottawa and wants to win. He has family ties to Fitzgerald and his wife is from the Jersey shore. Those issues might be a factor.
Improving our goal tending issues should be the first order of business to be addressed
They have to do something. This team isn't nearly tough enough to survive four rounds of the playoffs.
I would trade whatever it takes for Brady Tkachuk, he's a 1-man epitome of what we're missing throughout the team!

I don’t know that Ottawa would trade Tkachuk and I agree that he doesn’t resolve our rosters biggest issues. If this was last year and we didn’t go for Timo, absolutely. I just don’t know if it makes sense to sell if what few assets we have left for a position that’s already a strength.they need bottom 6 players, defense, and goaltending: also a coach who can count
Marino,Holtz,Schmid,First hopefully a high pick in this draft, next years first for Tkachuk and Chychrun. Then Sigenthaler for a draft pick. Sign T.J.Brodie.
Trade Jack lol. Either he refuses to put on weight or he’s just unable to. I don’t think we are ever going to see an 80 game season out of him.
The Devils also need to make the cap work. So Marino ($4 mil) or Siegenthaler ($3.2) have to go the other way. Combine that with what Mercer is expected to make, around $4, and that should cover Tkachuk’s cap it of $8.2.
So let’s talk the definites:
1. 2024 1st-round pick
2. Mercer
What else does Ottawa want?
Probably Nemec or Casey. So they would need to go.
For the Devils:
Siegnthaler or Marino has to go the other way for cap space purposes.
So most likely it will cost the Devils 2024 1st-rounder, Mercer, Casey, and Marino.

I get why Palat was signed so I’m not really upset about the contract. The youth is peaking and a proven vet and Stanley Cup champ was needed in the roster. Fitz had to send a message to the players and to the league that the Devils are serious Cup contenders. They’re in the now instead of build for the future. It’s a good message.
Now in order sign these big UFAs you’ll always overpay and also throw in a no-trade clause. That’s the reality.
Where the Devils come out on top, is that they only gave him a 5-year contract at $6 per. That’s one of the best “bad contracts” in the league. If Fitz signed Gaudreau for 7-years at $10 mil that would’ve been 20-times worse.
If Palat shines in the playoffs we’ll forget about the cost of this contract.
Nico for Brady? No just no, but HELL NO!!! Likewise to dealing Nemec, our issue is not firepower, it's defense and goaltending...

Random recommendations. This is pure delusion. No one in New jersey is getting a Brady Tkachuk other than Jack hughes’s. Not happening.
Without doing a ton of research I would honestly shake things up, trade jack hughes, another youngster, palat, this years 1st. You get what you need, you free cap for defense and goalie. You have enough to fill offense. Overall I think you have a better team once it’s all done.
