As a Sens fan it’s the worst feeling in the world. They show time and time again they’re capable of being a great team but they can’t bother to find consistency. As much as it’s tough to hear from other fan bases that they’re a bad team, they’re right. Good teams are consistent and this team can’t be. I’m really hoping they can have a Canucks-like turnaround next season but can’t trust the team as of now. Keep Brady, Sandy and Tim. Otherwise, anything to make playoffs next season.

The problem with moving anyone with this kind of cap hit is that only a few bottom teams have cap space enough to take him. The stat sheets look bad, but from watching the games, a lot more blame needs to be put on their defensive systems. Ever notice how most of the goalers the Sens ship off turn out to be pretty good, if not great, on their new teams?
DJ Smith was an abyssmal defenaive coach for the Leafs, and those same problems followed him to Ottawa, where bad habits have been instilled in their D Core. A proper season under a real coach with real systems and the "goaltending" will no longer be an issue.

I agree completely but for fun I will attampt to play devil's advocate.
Two thoughts, on why Ottawa could be pondering trading tkachuk, both being a stretch at best.
    1. Its been a disappointing season, and despite brady's growth and success throught his career, its coincided with the rebuild sputtering and not moving forward as expected.
They may look to shake things up, and go in a different direction, in a blockbuster 1 for 1 type hockey trade.
    2. PIM's being the driving factor in considering a trade. I love both tkachuk's game, they drive me nuts when their playing my wings, and i would absolutely kill to have a player like that on larkins wing.
With that said, i dont want my captain and best player spending 130 minutes in the penalty box. Obviously giving the opposition power play chances isnt a recipe for success. I want my captain and best player on the ice as much as possible, killing penalties, driving offense and not giving my opponent 65+ powerplays per season.
Ottawa might be willing to sacrifice brady's intangibles for a more traditional offensive forward, point per game type player with 20 PIMs a season.

If i get hired as coach i am going through make the Senators watch the intro to NHL '98 before every game and sometimes on the bench. You see me showing Stützle the iPad, yeah we're not watching replays or breakouts, it's just the intro to NHL '98.

From a contract POV he's great because you don't need to give him the 10/yr deals and he doesn't take up cap space.

@@aralornwolf3140 Fair enough, but then the sentence doesn't make sense. If OP meant 10mil per year it should be shown 10M/ or 10Mil/. Even beyond that though it should say "so he doesn't take up (as much) cap space" not "and he doesn't take up cap space". "And" implies they are talking about something else which means the 10/yr would not be about dollar amount.

Brady should be the only untouchable. Lots of great pieces to trade, it just doesn't work. The team has 3 times the talent of the bruins, with half the points. Something needs to change. At least they aren't in a Ducks/sharks dilemma, where they dumped all their players and are still terrible and not drafting well.
