even though the 650s might be an improvement over the 12c in nearly every aspect, i think that the 12c looks just *way* better.
I love how a lot of these people just quote Jeremy Clarkson and say "It has no soul". The hell do you know about souls?

Great video. I agree, Henry should be given the P1 immediately to review. I just bought a 12C and I love it. For all the reasons stated in this video. I am in awe of the engineering, it is the experience of a lifetime, and meant to be used to the fullest.
Having just bought a 12C it really is a car for the ages. IMO (biased) it is like an E type, Ferrari 275 or Aston DB5 of its era. Sure things may eventually supersede it but it will always be a defining model and age gracefully. A classic of our times.

This car is all class, the UK really know how to make gentleman/lady friendly cars.
People sometimes don't realize.. Its most practical supercar in the world.... Ride height is great for a supercar, looks are subjective but i loved them so much when i saw it, it's got more than enough power, has a great ride quality, its simply best of both world's.
Now there's an idea! I would love to see him do the same route in the P1:-)

I didn't like the new McLaren when it was launched. I thought it was too clean and lacked supercar madness . . . it has a different madness though, one that Mr Catchpole has portrayed perfectly. Its mad because it dares to be everything a supercar should be, yet manages to be what most other cars should be too.
It, along with EVO's new videos, is truly great.

The new 'F1' is going to be a rival for the Ferrari F70 which is due at the end of 2012 or sprnig 2013. Ive heard it will be a twin turbo V8 rather than a V12 the original F1 had, Look up Mclaren Project P12 for more info on it.
I cant wait to see what Mclaren come up with :-)
I didnt really say that Clarkson himself was biased.
But you cant deny that Jeremy sometimes has his Ferrari hat on. Epsecially when it comes to Porsches, often describing the 911 as a 'Jumped-up squatted down Volkswagen Beetle'.
People like Clarkson criticized the Mclaren MP4-12C for being 'boring' compared to a 458 Italia.
How is a 592 horsepower twin-turbo V8 supercar boring?? Great to see a non biased reviewer appreciate this brilliant car for what it is. Great video.

One of the best opening scenes to a real Drivers video and the best way to present any real Drivers video Fukin badass. I would take a 458 any day over the Mp4 12 because there is still only one real Mclaren which after 20 years still is one of the baddest Supercars in the world The F1
that is a problem a few cars had over 3 years ago which Ferrari now sorted so you should start realise how much better a naturally aspirated 570 BHP Italia is compared to a twin turbo McLaren which has barely 30 HP more. Looks boring and it sounds like a VW lol. McLaren keep trying

This should be held up as a perfect example of how to make a good car review. Great sound, music, editing, photography and story progression. Oh, and not every car reviewer needs to imitate Jeremy Clarkson.
Henry bores me to tears! And this was one of the best days of his life he said LOL pretty boring way of delivering this review to us viewers given he was at his most excited?! I couldnt even finish watching it.

MP4 stands for Marlboro Project 4, but now more commonly known as McLaren Project 4. 12 was just the code chassis given to this car and C is carbon-fibre, which is what the car is made from.
My tip tip. If you have £120k then buy one used. These are only going to appreciate in value over the next few years.
The little problem with that, is maintain costs and apparently is huge unreliable...shame cuz I think its a great car!
Its 90k now. One day I'll buy one, not for it to appreciate but to drive the hell out of it, like Henry did.
You're so right about that! However, there are a few sparcely populated places where you can put the pedal to the metal without too much interference from the plod, but not many!
I do believe you're right! The production cars now have a very effective sat nav system. This must have been an early pre production car for the journo's to test:-)

No decent sat nav in the 12c! What the fuck! Still, a £120~£150 Tom Tom will soon correct that, and they're usually much better than the shite most manufacturers fit anyway!

Seriously.... terrific, wonderful, outstanding video. People don't like Jeremy Clarkson for his sense of humor but i love him for his LOVE of car's his passion for soul and character. Henry you have just stolen me as a audience member. I will continue to watch every single video you produce. Thank you for making a simple boy smile thinking about a super car road trip.
According to what I hear, carbon ceramic brakes don't get brake dust and are lighter than steel brakes. They also last longer and perform better under intense heat. However, on low speeds and when in cool conditions (ie in snowy moments like in this video), they tend to lack "feel", and they have expensive price tags. Critics say that if you tend to go to the track often, carbon ceramic is the way to go. But, if you don't always go, it's better to use steel brakes.
Carbon brakes do have advantages, they're lighter which reduces unsprung mass and do have greater stopping power. However... They can lack feel, especially when carbon brakes were first being introduced on road cars, they were more like a switch either complete off or fully on. With steel brakes there is more feel and more progression right the way through the pedal therefore you can brake later. But they don't offer the overall stopping power and less unsprung mass that carbon brakes do.
I'm starting to like the MP4-12C, at first i just didn't think it was worthy of being after the F1, however, It's a completely different type of car yet offers insane performance while being a daily driver. I'm a fan of many cars, this clip helped shed some light on it.
I really wish it had a center mounted seat, but isn't McLaren gonna make a successor to the F1 in the future i heard?
I inferred from "great to see a non biased reviewer" that you think "people like Clarkson" are biased, I don't see how else you can interpret that.
Jeremy Clarkson "hating" Porsches has nothing to do with McLaren vs. Ferrari.
Clarkson almost always begins a review by saying how he hates Porsches, but by the end he is astonished by how well it drives - the whole Beetle thing is just a joke based on its looks.
I preffered the 458 italia till i read Chris harris` article on how Ferrari flat out LIES and sets up presscars differently to a customer car,tuned presscars etc.And every1 goes along with it,terrified of not getting invited to Ferraris next launch.Except Chris Harris and he knows he`ll never be asked to come ever again,so he bought a 599...... McLaren just gives u the keys and tells u to be back in a few days......

I think that thinking goes for more than just the UK. If I had only one place to drive any performance oriented car, I would choose the Alps. It's not because the UK, US, ect is lacking, it is just that the Alps are so far superior to nearly every other place in the world. The only place I can think of that comes close is the American Rockies.
Exactly all we have are opinions because we're all sitting behind computer screens, they have a little more than just a RUclips opinion on cars. I respect everyone's opinions on cars, but I also know I can't really go against the likes of Chris Harris or Clarkson. If they say something isn't great then hey what can I tell them? Some opinions have more validity than others
So if people agree with you they're not biased - but they are biased if they disagree?
"People like Clarkson" think this whole "adjusting the car for you" and the "flawless ride" etc. takes something away from the driving experience. Catchpole doesn't seem to think so.
That's not bias, that's just differing opinions.

Yesterday I took a detour on the way home from my Dad's to go to the McLaren dealer in Hockley Heath. I've always loved the MP4, especially in the bright orange. And they had an orange one outside.
I challenge anyone who says the MP4 looks boring to see one in front of them and say it again. That orange MP4 looked truely 'dream car' sensational.
Bloody hell, i'm a 458 man all day long, also love all Lambos, but this, THIS VIDEO by Catchpole is the best advertisement Mclaren could ever have hoped for. Suddenly the MP4 makes sense, and i've watched a lot of MP4 footage, but this brings everything together, now the car becomes epic, now i understand it, now i want one !!
they are but it will have 2 seats. You only have to wait 3 more weeks to see it, it'll be at the Paris motor show! :D
Alot of people say the MP4-12C is great but isn't a true supercar compared to the 458 for example. I think it's a matter of preference. If it were my money i'd opt for the Mclaren. It's docile and compliant when you want and sheer lunacy at the flick of switch.
He thinks it's boring because he's driven just about everything, to him yes it might be a "boring" supercar. But to us this car would be fucking ridiculous, you have to take everything these automotive journalists say with a grain of salt. It's all about perspective.
Honestly, how could anyone dislike this video. You don't have to like the car. These guys go to a big effort to put this up for our enjoyment and yet there are some retards in youtubeland that would be better served by booking themselves in for a full brain amputation.

Also, on a side note, according to Autocar's review, McLaren said that their steel brakes can stop distances shorter than their carbon ceramic brakes, but, like said earlier, the carbon ceramic brakes last better on track usage.

I believe he means as in everyday mid-engine super car that you can use. R8 was comfortable, easy to see out of, park etc. That would be my guess. Of course there is the Porsche 911, but some would argue that's a sports car. imo
Yeah, theirs rental services and even track day events where one can drive the supercar of their dreams. Sounds great right? Here's the catch, they cost at least $1000. Not exactly weekend money if you ask me :(

Great video but it sounds too promotional. Sure the car deserves all that praise, but you made it look like a promotional vid, rather than an epic roadtrip report. I wouldn't say its the same trip I read in the mag!
I lost all respect for Clarkson after he pulled the "soul card" for the umpteenth time. He's a Ferrari fanboy and needs to admit it.... soul is subjective and seems to be directly proportional to how unreliable a car is.

really wonderfully produced video. im not a fan of catchpole (i don't like the way he mumbles and babbles on about things, though i prefer it to carlos lago's style), but i think he did a pretty good job here.

i admit i wash my car every week....but i get so much joy when i see it covered in dust and road grime from hard driving etc....it does actaully look cooler and as he says it should be that way....
