Yep, they are pretty eye watering with regard to parts prices, that heater control for example, and Rob Ferretti did a vid on how much his cost, $35k for a steering rack IIRC. McLaren need to get that shit under control and not try and take their customers for all they can.
7:07 McLaren a startup? Are you kidding? The McLaren F1 was a marvel of the 90s and even early 2000s and they have their own Formula 1 team man! They know their stuff :P They've been doing this for years.
Why are you surprised? This is McLaren we're talking about. They've been racing for decades. Don't forget they're the ones that brought us the McLaren F1. For 140G's, I think it's a steal considering it was going for almost double that when it first came out.
Joshua Reese Well, it is a startup indeed. Let's forget for a second they have been running an F1 team for decades, making road cars is another pair of sleeves, that's a totally brand new industrial business to them and had to build the plant they've never had before. And most of all they never developed their own engines which is a prestige key factor in the sportscar business. They use a half-blooded Nissan derived engine.
Because you dont know whats mean, this have sense when MP4 is the name chasis for formula 1 mclaren cars, "Mclaren Project 4" the 12 is for a Mclaren index of performance, and the C is "carbon", this is usefull name, not marketing. Dumb can be the names when Lamborghini use the name of Spain bulls for put in his models.
I think having a car with a brave bull's name is much better than a collection of letters and numbers that represent the sequel for the project. super cars are meant to be personal and alive this is why almost all of them have catchy names.
Yeah, thats true too, bull names for his logo is cool, anyway im spanish and dont know any bull name, i only say Mclaren dont put random numbers and letters.
MP-412 REX. That little break-action revolver from Battlefield that's actually kind of really cool and would be a cool carry piece or just a cool range toy.
Steve LaForce i think it would need a bumper to bumper warranty or even better most through McLaren are automatically CPO (tho prob be cheaper to get an awesome warranty)
Exactly!!! The power steering pump going out, putting metal shavings in the lines and since the suspension is connected to the power steering lines, it all needed replacing. Rob's video is a good lesson on if it seems to good to be true, there is always a reason for it.
Fair point......but let's be real, how can you be hard on your power steering? So hard on it, that it ruins your suspension? Everything with moving parts will eventually fail, so that g37 you have had for 7 years, I bet it will be more reliable than the MP4-12c you recently bought. A suspension being connected to the power steering system, all running on the same fluid, is nuts. That would be the first fluid change I would do then, if I were you.
I'm sorry Doug I love your videos man your super entertaining and I'm not questioning your car knowledge but!! to say this car has a dumb name shows the ignorance in that statement. What is McLaren known for? F1!! Who's the driver everyone including Schumacher says was the best? Senna!! And what did he drive when he posted the most insane pole lap in history? An MP4/4... what did he use to win the world championship in 1990? An MP4/5b. So yes the name MP4/whatever sounds weird but my god is it dripping with history, success, and touched by the hands of legends like senna and prost. Again not trying to talk shit just wanting to point out that the name has a hell of a lot more meaning than it sounds.
You are 100% correct, The "MP4 - ____, it stands for McLaren Project 4, it comes from the time when Ron Dennis took over McLaren and he had been working on his own cars at the time and they were called "Project 4", he wanted to keep his moniker of "Project 4",....so the 2 names were combined and the initials of this combination are "MP4", Doug you should have done a small amount of research and discovered this out for yourself and then you'd looked informed and not someone who is looking for excuses to slam the 12C and those silly Brits, so try saying the 12C,,...come on Doug, you can do better than this...Thank you AdrenalineJunkieXL
Meaning to those in the know yes 10/10, catchy for the other 95% of the population not in the know 1/10, trying to explain that to an ordinary person why it's got that name 0/10! Thanks for telling me the reason behind the choice of name but you can't deny it's a poor choice in the grand scheme of designating a name to a car that gives it more of a soul a presence something they can remember quickly especially for people who don't even know what F1 is never mind senna and which car he won in! They could have used the name senna then!
Let's be honest though, how many people who have the money to buy one of these are going to know or care? "MP4-12C" doesn't exactly roll off the tongue either no matter how much you appreciate the significance of it, and calling it just "MP4" shorthand will probably get people who don't know what it means to respect your car.
It's overrated and overhyped (and overengineered in a respectable Japanese way) but I can't get tired of looking at it with a good view of its gorgeous rear. I like my cars the way I like my women I guess.
Depends on how you look at it. If you don't make a car for 13 years, you start over in production ... and clearly it's still garbage. ruclips.net/video/znSziiek0j8/видео.html
Good video EXCEPT the part where you referred to McLaren as a startup. YEARS of F1 racing expertise and producers of one of if not THE most herald road car in production history, the F1. Had to mini rant being a huge F1 fan. Overall good job Bro. Appreciate the perspective.
Not knowing much about F1, I used to think of McLaren as a "start-up" as well before watching the 2014 BBC documentary on the company and it's ramp up to the production of the MP4-12C. Their factory is itself a work of art and their dedication to their craft quite impressive.
I like the name MP4-12C. It’s like how they name their F1 cars. Even though the 600LT is my favorite of the current of McLarens (yes more than the Senna).. the MP4-12C still does it for me to this day. Anyone else still watch the Top Gear review of this when it first came out?
1. McLaren is not a "start up". 2. You didn't mention anything about its party piece, which is the very clever hydraulic suspension, that keeps the car flat in turns, but still provides a comfortable ride.
Doug is over-exaggerating about getting in and out of the car. I have done it myself and i can tell you he is both getting in and out on the weirdest way possible he is making it hard for himself not because it actually is hard rather because he as mentioned is doing it wrong.
He does that a lot.... I look and see what should be done though. ;) I mean really. I am 6'4" and used to drop into low cars, and get out of them..... you can do it awkwardly, or smoothly. He likes to do everything as awkwardly as possible. ;)
Ya.. You would definitely think that McLaren (startup? LOL) gearbox should be worse than other super cars.. they only design and manufacture their own F1 gearboxes for ages now..... Not a big deal at all.... This only proves that Dough is really far from true petrolhead.. It same as being amazed in Ferrari and saying I was expecting something like Honda Jazz.
Doug, McLaren is not a startup in anyway really. They have deep pockets, decades of racing experience, and the attention to detail and quality that makes a Ferrari look like a kit car. It comes as no surprise to the rest of the automotive world that McLaren can produce a car like this - it is expected from them. They earned their spot among marque badges 20 years ago. Address them with some respect.
Matthew Rowan if you even care, they are a startup. Mclaren Automotive started recently. Mclaren Technology was the F1 team and the one that made the F1.
She's another Beautiful Britt. My first car Love was an old MGB, sitting behind a Dodge dealer, on my way home walking from work after midnight, dish washer at Shoneys I'd sneak open the door and sit in about an hour, just shifting through the gears and imagining she was mine. One night I was headed to sit in her after work and she was gone never to see her again. Even now 40 years later when I see an MGB go up the road I can't help but watch till she's gone. Still go crazy, Paul Davis was so right!
Because it is a startup in road production vehicles. They had only made one failed attempted to be a streetcar manufacturer TWENTY years prior to that point, and that's their first one after that, so a clear startup by every definition.

Young Wu Chun actually the McLaren automotive and racing teams are separate divisions operating independently of each other. McLaren trademarked McLaren Automotive in 2010, creating the new branch from the ground up. The first project of this branch was the 12c. McLaren Automotive was a start-up division of McLaren. Doug was right.
It was definitely a street car start up. Especially when you compare it to manufacturers it’s competing with that have been around for decades. Porsche, lambo, Ferrari.
7:05 Yeah, really surprising that McLaren, the little upstart that has for years had Formula One cars that revolutionized the dual clutch, has made a car with quick shifts. LOL!!! Come on Doug. Watch some F1 already.

106 total vehicles produced for a mere 5 years (with a 19 year break in between) isn't exactly what I'd call a "road division." The F1 was a race car modified to be street legal. It was hand built by a handful of guys and FUNDED by McLaren, they were not technically an automobile company. The 12c is first and foremost an actual mass produced exotic street car, and the first manufactured by McLaren's new automobile factory. The F1 was McLaren dipping their toe in the water. The 12c was their cannonball. A bit of comprehension goes a long way.
They have sold over 5000 production cars in the last TWO years alone, I dont know where you got your "data" from but its embarrassing nonsense. They have recently celebrated their 10,000th production car sale. If you are going to spout rubbish go and work for Fox news.

I always thought that this design is nicer than most modern mclarens, the interior looks just as good too, I've seen some really nice specs of this car over years too! It's a shame for the original buyers that it's depreciated so much but I'm sure each person who buys it along it's life will be happy with their purchase until they go to sell it again, maybe one day they will be cheap enough for even me to buy, I'd be over the moon if this was mine for less than 70,000 but I'm betting I wouldn't be the only one! Doubt they would ever get that low though? I I think the name doesn't help it either, MP4 12C is a terrible name and designation, it looks like a registration plate when written down! I'm glad they came up with a new system but they had plenty of time to designate a catchier name with maybe a special edition of the car nearing the end of production! One that could have stuck to all models by now
HENRY kunjumon It can't shift to a reverse when you're moving. You will have to be at low speeds moving forward to even do that, and even then it will stall before it shifts into reverse. At high speeds, it won't even do anything. T
I have heard the universe will implode in on itself until we all compress back into a giant ball of anti-matter, so don't press the reverse button unless you are stopped.
These cars are still affordable, and with very simple modifications, they are absurdly fast. 0-60 in the mid 2s, running the 1/4 mile in mid 9s, top speeds of 215-220mph, very good handling, and out on the highway they get 25+ mpg lol They aren't known for being super reliable, and are very expensive to service though.
You can get them for $100K. My 2019 E63 S AMG beats it stock and tuned. That is stock to stock and tuned to tuned. You’re better off getting a BMW, Merc, or Porsche.
@Electric Eye Slide I do enjoy Mercs. I've had 2 E55s and a bi-turbo e550. I'd like an e63s, and they aren't too bad either as far as price goes. They just don't have that super car appeal. Fantastic cars, very quick, but they are a 4 door sedan.

MadMike41 he might have been talking about the public car side of the company.
That touchscreen is literally just an android tablet
Bravobraza replacement cost is $25,000 lolol
UnitedRecording I imagine that is because they would have to replace a load of other electronics as well as taking the whole dashboard apart
Bravobraza shit, i could buy a ton of tablets, laptop and phones conbined and still have some left.
shit i could by a used m3 or play it safe, and get a 335i with some tuning upgrades, and an extra 5000+ just in case something goes wrong loool
Bravobraza Is it?
I'm pretty boggled why your so surprised Doug! McLaren is a well known worldclass
MrOdeezie585 there's a difference in making race and road cars
MrOdeezie585 he’s surprised because the price
Why are you surprised? This is McLaren we're talking about. They've been racing for decades. Don't forget they're the ones that brought us the McLaren F1.
For 140G's, I think it's a steal considering it was going for almost double that when it first came out.
The car isn't even that old, it just seems old because McLaren releases a new car every 6 months it seems.
Get familiar with that tow mode, you’ll be using it a lot
This dude said McLaren is a start up.
Go ask Mika Hakkinen. Doug I still love ya just the same ;)
Joshua Reese Well, it is a startup indeed.
And Ayrton Senna
The McLaren F1 is like 20 years old too...I wouldn't say they've never done this before
*Legend has it if you comment early enough, Doug will scoff at it and go do something else.*
` seems most likely
I like the mp412c the best because the headlights dont look like McLaren logos
Noah Laughlin what about the McLaren F1
Me too!
This car gives me a Mclaren mixed with a lambo vibe
The name is so dumb. more like Canon MP4-12C Laser printer.
Linksys MP4-12C Wireless router. lol
MP-412 REX. That little break-action revolver from Battlefield that's actually kind of really cool and would be a cool carry piece or just a cool range toy.
$4800..? I don't even own the car yet still I got a heart attack LOL
Mikael Soltaniha Yeah omfg too much
Mic Spam God I think that the iris screen thing is like 40 000 if I remember correctly like What. The. Fuck.
Thats just the start, low volume cars every part is stupid expensive.
Jeff K but this is just ridiculous!!
I could really upgrade the car I drive for that kind of money.
I will own one one day
skylinedude951 all about the mindset, your on a good way !
Hell yeah you will man! When you do take me for a ride!
Find one with high miles or wait 5 years, it will be about 50,000 bucks 😬
Go get it then don't stop
It’s my dream to own a McLaren. Their prices are honestly somewhat reasonable. It’s under 175 which is amazing
After hearing rob's $40,000 steering column story, I think I'll stay away
Steve LaForce i think it would need a bumper to bumper warranty or even better most through McLaren are automatically CPO (tho prob be cheaper to get an awesome warranty)
Exactly!!! The power steering pump going out, putting metal shavings in the lines and since the suspension is connected to the power steering lines, it all needed replacing. Rob's video is a good lesson on if it seems to good to be true, there is always a reason for it.
There can only be one...
Steve LaForce exactly
Fair point......but let's be real, how can you be hard on your power steering? So hard on it, that it ruins your suspension? Everything with moving parts will eventually fail, so that g37 you have had for 7 years, I bet it will be more reliable than the MP4-12c you recently bought. A suspension being connected to the power steering system, all running on the same fluid, is nuts. That would be the first fluid change I would do then, if I were you.
Doug moves his tongue a lot when he speaks.
JECZ doesn't everyone?
JECZ aiyOooo u mad soft relax
6:59 lol
JECZ I see you enjoy your time looking at the tongues of speaking people.
I'm pretty sure the fact that Ron Dennis has 2 first names has something to do with this debacle.
@@martyndyson9501 This guy gets it
Let's be honest though, how many people who have the money to buy one of these are going to know or care? "MP4-12C" doesn't exactly roll off the tongue either no matter how much you appreciate the significance of it, and calling it just "MP4" shorthand will probably get people who don't know what it means to respect your car.
Holy shit Doug, what's next, a Veyron, a Zonda, a GT-R or a Hyundai Smart?
Mamiya645 Please tell me you didn't associate the Gt-R to real luxurious Supercars.
The GT-R is such a overrated piece of shit.
It's overrated and overhyped (and overengineered in a respectable Japanese way) but I can't get tired of looking at it with a good view of its gorgeous rear. I like my cars the way I like my women I guess.
@Wolfyy "GTR is such an overrated piece of shit" -Honda Civic driver
Tony Bluntsmoke Actually I drive a 2014 Mercedes c63 AMG 507
McLaren is very far from a startup
Depends on how you look at it. If you don't make a car for 13 years, you start over in production ... and clearly it's still garbage. ruclips.net/video/znSziiek0j8/видео.html
Thanks for the link.. I really like that guy's variety of videos.!
Who's here after seeing Drew peacock get one?
yup
Yeah
Nope
... who?
Good video EXCEPT the part where you referred to McLaren as a startup. YEARS of F1 racing expertise and producers of one of if not THE most herald road car in production history, the F1.
Had to mini rant being a huge F1 fan.
Overall good job Bro. Appreciate the perspective.
Not knowing much about F1, I used to think of McLaren as a "start-up" as well before watching the 2014 BBC documentary on the company and it's ramp up to the production of the MP4-12C. Their factory is itself a work of art and their dedication to their craft quite impressive.
And now it costs $95,000. Depreciated $45k in 6 years
Doug is there a web page like a column of some sort where I can view more info of your opinions

McLarens are where it's at. I love those cars.
I like the name MP4-12C.
It’s like how they name their F1 cars.
Even though the 600LT is my favorite of the current of McLarens (yes more than the Senna).. the MP4-12C still does it for me to this day. Anyone else still watch the Top Gear review of this when it first came out?
Can you come review my automatic 94 Corolla
How about my noisy ass, uncomfortable, wouldn't-trade-it-for-anything stick-shift Wrangler?
I'd watch 'm lol
Slow. 105 HP
True car guys don't need speed
Marko Stojic He likes being awkward.
Yes he is corny and also 6’4
Marko Stojic you must be a really short individual
Jalen Mendiola Doug is barely 6ft 2 let's be honest
He does that a lot.... I look and see what should be done though. ;) I mean really. I am 6'4" and used to drop into low cars, and get out of them..... you can do it awkwardly, or smoothly. He likes to do everything as awkwardly as possible. ;)
$140,000 to buy it and another $140,000 to run & maintain it...
*Doug gets a girlfriend and talks to his friends about her*
"Let me tell you about her little quirks and features."
Jesus Christ, enough already with that fucking joke.
I don't know man.. its over mid of 2018 already and I still love this car so badly!!!
Doug the type of guy to watch a Doug DeMuro video on his McLaren MP4-12C infotainment.
5:06 The design is the above view of the McLaren technology centre
Who’s dough
Bubba Sparks get out of here you British common dandy, in America we use the term GEARHEAD
McLaren has officially renamed the MP4-12C to 12C.
Matthew Rowan Yeah I just heard him say the startup segment. I have to say I was surprised.
Matthew Rowan if you even care, they are a startup. Mclaren Automotive started recently. Mclaren Technology was the F1 team and the one that made the F1.
Odezy Beckhummice janior they made the SLR McLaren in 2005
theultimate potato They helped it go into production, but they didnt "make" it. But that Mclaren was NOT mclaren automotive, it was the F1 team.
Odezy Beckhummice janior ok
She's another Beautiful Britt. My first car Love was an old MGB, sitting behind a Dodge dealer, on my way home walking from work after midnight, dish washer at Shoneys I'd sneak open the door and sit in about an hour, just shifting through the gears and imagining she was mine. One night I was headed to sit in her after work and she was gone never to see her again. Even now 40 years later when I see an MGB go up the road I can't help but watch till she's gone. Still go crazy, Paul Davis was so right!
5:36 Dougception.
why does he keep saying McLaren is a startup?
Because it is a startup in road production vehicles. They had only made one failed attempted to be a streetcar manufacturer TWENTY years prior to that point, and that's their first one after that, so a clear startup by every definition.
@@EbrahimSaadawii

Young Wu Chun actually the McLaren automotive and racing teams are separate divisions operating independently of each other. McLaren trademarked McLaren Automotive in 2010, creating the new branch from the ground up. The first project of this branch was the 12c. McLaren Automotive was a start-up division of McLaren. Doug was right.
It was definitely a street car start up. Especially when you compare it to manufacturers it’s competing with that have been around for decades. Porsche, lambo, Ferrari.
@@davidbresnahan5986 Good info man thanks for that! I thought that was kinda the timeline but definitely wasn't positive.
7:05 Yeah, really surprising that McLaren, the little upstart that has for years had Formula One cars that revolutionized the dual clutch, has made a car with quick shifts. LOL!!! Come on Doug. Watch some F1 already.
David Cunetta F1 is boring, people hardly even pass one another. Rallying is where it's at
David Cunetta McLaren Automotive, the road car division, was a startup. The Automotive and racing teams operate independently of each other. McLaren trademarked McLaren Automotive in 2010, which is where the road division was created. Their first car was the 12c. McLaren Automotive was a start-up branch of McLaren. Doug was right.
I thought it was officially renamed to the 12C at one point?
Love it! They're just very expensive to fix if something goes astray.
Its 1 of my favorite cars and I love how it's really not that far out of reach with its value. Soon soon can't wait!
5:33 I wish I was a fan of Doug back then.
please don't compare Mclaren to a start up.
McLaren IS a start up.
Well, when Mclaren was truly a start up, they made the F1. And it still looks like someone made it yesterday. Mclaren as a startup were what Koenigsegg is today.
Every now and then I think of some random car that I don’t remember seeing Doug review… and I search and it takes me back to vintage Doug Demuro. Pretty cool.
Doug! you weren't expecting a brilliant transmission from a company that builds F1 cars??
Mclarens and Porsche’s kick lambo and Ferrari’s ass back to Italy, but seriously these companies beat overrated cars like Ferrari’s and lambo although I like lambos and Ferrari’s
True. 720s is faster than any car from either company.

Another video of Doug awkwardly getting in exotic cars! That should be its own show.
Well, CLEARLY, Tyler Hoover has seen this video!
Yes he does!
It is extremely reliable. My car was the first to be delivered and it has not had even a sensor gone bad. Not even the battery has gone flat. Ever!
Hoovie's garage killed the MP4-12C used market....
McLaren, start-up company? One of the finest, most reliable Formula One companies, period. Start-up company? absurd!
Startup? Founded in 1963!! TWELVE drivers world championships.
He is talking about the ROAD division. He knows about F1 and the Mclaren F1 road car.
No shit Sherlock, the road car division has been going over 20 years.....next!
Doug is a type of a guy when you want to buy a car you just know he has reviewed it and it helps alot to choose the right car for yourself
Here because of Hoovies.. =)
Me- No, no it's not reliable :D
@@ralphlongo1975 Funny that one of the first comments blasts about how reliable his car his, while you can find evidence all over the net that these are basically a driving pile of s*** when it comes to reliablity. There is a reason you can get them so cheap..

If the repairs hold up then Tyler might have made a good deal.
David Taylor he just paid market price, you can buy others ones for the same price on the market right now lol
I love how he says I've never driven a MP4-12C in my entire life! As if any of us have or its common lmao! This guy is so removed from reality its comical. But I love it!!
great car!! as a automobile enthusiast I want to give you a nice advise: Why you don't mount a second Camara on the side windows showing the cockpit and the road while driving? It would be a very high improving of the quality of your content
You really didn't call McLaren a "startup". The F1 is better than any Porsche.
140k id wait and pick up a used NSX, the only brand more expensive to repair is Bugatti. McLaren makes Ferrari and Lamborghini v12 maintenance seem affordable.
One that could have stuck to all models by now
Found one for 87 grand in 2023😎
Yeah, I know, Drew send me here too
MP4 are infamous for their reliability.
This is achingly cool. Neighbour owned one of these briefly and it's so much fun

WHAT IF WE PRESS THE REVERSE BUTTON BY MISTAKE..ITS VERY TINY
HENRY kunjumon It can't shift to a reverse when you're moving. You will have to be at low speeds moving forward to even do that, and even then it will stall before it shifts into reverse. At high speeds, it won't even do anything. T
Tow the mclaren if u really exist!!!
I have heard the universe will implode in on itself until we all compress back into a giant ball of anti-matter, so don't press the reverse button unless you are stopped.
james rudolph Exactly like i thought
These cars are still affordable, and with very simple modifications, they are absurdly fast. 0-60 in the mid 2s, running the 1/4 mile in mid 9s, top speeds of 215-220mph, very good handling, and out on the highway they get 25+ mpg lol
They aren't known for being super reliable, and are very expensive to service though.
