To tell you which one's the better car, don't listen to me, look at this man's face for the verdict.
In the F1, he looks like a little kid, being taken to the biggest candy shop he's ever seen, absolutely laden with bliss and happiness to be in that seat.
In the P1, he looks like a car reviewer. Nothing wrong with that, but he looks like he's doing his job. Nothing more.
The tale tells itself, really. I don't hate the P1, it's phenomenal, but it doesn't have the magic of the F1. If the P1 is today's image of performance, the F1 is humanity's image of perfection.

I fucking lost it when I saw it and literally ran to it like a kid on Christmas. My wife couldn't understand. This is a car I've read about and only see in videos/magazines and to be face to face from it and actually LOOK at it from all angles was awesome.Love the P1... but the F1 will always be king to me. What they did back at that time is really unreal when you think of possibly how far we COULD be today.

Its a form that follows function, shaped by 90s F1 technology. Gordon Murray is a man who likes simplicity and he was working with McLaren at a time when they were absolutely dominating F1. A car like this can only be conceived when all of the stars align. That's why the F1 is and looks so special. Never again will a car like this exist.

BIGWEBB88 why its over hyped junk with a rubbish gutless engine no surprise BMW made the joke. The F1's pathetic engine makes just over 101hp per litre at the same time production cars like Honda's S2000 made 123.5 hp per litre which makes the F1 look like an engineering joke if you park it next to an S2000 as its engine is 23% more powerful per litre than the amatuer bit of rubbish BMW could come up with. The F1 isn't even fast and never was, a 2litre RS500 Group A touring would have blown one away, a current Honda BTCC car blows current McClaren road cars away. The F1 is a pile of overpriced bling bling rubbish that was way out of date and would look absolutely pathetic if it was parked next to an S2000 of the same era in engineering terms. You could use the more powerful Honda day in day out for years and it wouldn't go wrong after hundreds of thousands of miles and need somer ridiculous servicing . 6.1 times 123.5 is 753 hp not the miniscule amount BMW managed ! nearly 150 less 600 odd hopeless not even type r land really :)

If the two cars were presented to me, I would choose the F1. Not because of it's value (the P1's value will increase a great deal), but the for the driving experience. No electronic nannies getting in the way, a manual gear box, the up front center driving position, and that glorious normally aspirated V12. It still has specs that make it a very very fast car. This car has a soul, a spirit that hybrid drivetrains, automatic transmissions and tons of electronic trickery just can't replace.

I mean we all know the Venom isn't the most sophisticated car on the planet, and they borrowed one of the lightest and pure Lotus designs ever made and gave it the engine it deserves, *not to mention completely re-engineered and re-shaped everything in carbon-fiber besides the cockpit*, but it was made JUST to break the speed record, not be the most respected vehicle of all time. We DO own the speed record, and until someone else breaks it, I'm sure you'll pretend "it's cheating".

David McKenzie A car is not considered "Masterpiece" Just because of it's price, or the value, lol!
First of all McLaren F1 is over 20 years old, and still has the Fastest Naturally Aspirated engine ever build! Ferrari Enzo comes close, but no near the Top Speed of F1.
F1 is literally a purpose build Road legal Race Car! That simply Demolished any car on a race track in the 90's! Even up to-date it will still out-handle modern supercars with ease!
F1 held a Record for the Fastest Car in the World! In regards to top speed, for 12 consecutive Years! Which in itself is another Record!
In our society, There are constant innovations, changes, and exponential growth in technology! Yet the F1 still glings to it's greatness! And even after 20 years! It is still considered a Serious car, that is More than capable in beating Modern Lambo's and Ferrari's on a race track! For these reason alone, This car is truly considered a Masterpiece!
And btw last McLaren F1 that was sold, went for 10 million Dollars!

Thankyou EVO for getting it - for understanding what it is that car enthusiasts love about cars. It's not about races vs other vehicles or playing conkers with caravans. It's about - and you'll forgive me - the thrill of driving and no-one explains that better than you guys. This and the N430 Military Road vid in particular really pull on the heartstrings. Not in a saccharin sweet way but in a way that is appreciative and heartfelt. TGT and TG still haven't really nailed that yet.

The McLaren is the pinnacle of cars before driver aids. It did have a lot of active aero which was so far ahead of it's time that even today many super cars don't have similar features but it didn't have ABS (which was fairly common at the time), no traction control (which you saw on a few high end passenger cars but no performance cars), definitely no yaw or attitude control (didn't exist). The engine uses a throttle cable (electronic throttles were probably being used on F1 cars) and doesn't have variable valve timing (barely out on Honda VTECs).
What would make a F1 better without totally changing it? Certainly modern ceramic brakes with good ABS, maybe an electronic throttle and direct injection would make the engine even more responsive (and more fuel efficient :-D). The car came out just as semi-autos were coming on the scene in F1 so it was early for that but to be able to blitz up the gears without that rpm drop that was so normal then but sounds so sloooowww today. Other than that? The F1 came out when I was 15, 24 years ago and it's still the one car from then that I'd want to drive more than a car that replaced it. Would you rather an F40 over an Enzo or la Ferrari or a C5 Corvette over a C7 (maybe that one's close if you compare today's base C7 to a Z06 C5), a Porsche 959 is a midrange 911 by today's standards but an F1 to some extent still goes head to head just on sheer numbers with any non hybrid McLaren today. Of course they're cheaper, easier daily drivers, get better mileage, blah blah blah but would you take a 675 over an F1?

    • @samitapio8774

Clifford Bradford that bmw S70/2 has variable valve timing called VANOS

    • @quackman
      @quackman 5 лет назад

I'm not so sure an electronic throttle would help with an even more responsive engine, but I dunno.
And in this video, the guy is driving rather comfortably because these are ridiculously expensive cars on regular, small roads. it's certainly possible to shift a manual faster than he does here. I guess that can be considered somewhat of a problem, esp as a passenger. But as a driver, I'll take it as a different experience.
      Upgraded brakes, though, yes please!
