      @srinitaaigaura 4 года назад +13

      But look at the build quality of that car - every part is obsessed over. It doesn't look dated on the inside at all. I saw a full video of the Enzo by Doug Demuro and that car looked just cheap and crudely built compared to the F1, which still has better quality than anything else short of a Chiron - I'd say its flawless. Recently Mclaren refurnished a gray F1 and man, it looks gorgeous, especially the gold lined engine. Just pure engineering porn.

      There is no way a 993 would do 3.6, 4.4 is much more likely. Maybe the Ruf version would be close but even that would be a push. I think the only car of that era that could hold a torch even close to the F1 would be an XJ220. But even then still no real match and have a look at the difference in values on today’s markets.

And there was a time in the sort of mid 1990s when he took it in for a service and he got a phone call from Woking .The McLaren HQ said "Thomas, there appears to be something wrong with your F1 because the black box keep showing up these numbers every single day and nobody else finds this, we think there might be something wrong with it, numbers like 220 mph, 215 mph just happens daily". There is no general speed limit on german "Autobahn" . In the south of the city of Frankfurt is a "Autobahn" named A5 , where you can hold the top speed of this car around 10 minutes in the night or the early morning hours. After the 2nd world war the famous german driver Bernd Rosemeyer died here at a serious speed world- record attempt. Unexpected aerodynamic force lifted his car at nearly full speed , and he crashed into the forest beside the "Autobahn".

      The F1 doesn’t beat the Veyron 16.4 to anything. You believe that staged Top Gear race? They did that for the drama.
      The Veyron 16.4 does 0-62mph (0-100km/h) in 2.7 secs, 0-124mph (0-200km/h) in 7.3 secs and 0-186mph (0-300km/h) in 16.7 secs. It does the 1/4 mile in 10.1 secs at 145mph. At no point would the F1 be quicker than the Veyron 16.4.

    I had the pleasure of a guided walk-around of an F1 when it was new and they had one in the showroom at Park Lane, London back in the 90's. In the hope of getting a close-up photo of it I walked in looking like a right scruff in that environment, sure they would show me the door instantly, and to my surprise and delight the staff there were exceptionally kind and let me look over the car for a good 10-15 minutes whilst they explained bits and pieces such as the reason for the gold linings in the engine bay. Really cool. They wouldn't let me sit in the car or even touch it, but nevertheless it was a fabulous and memorable experience. Many belated thanks to showroom staff there.

Even more beautiful in the flesh than in photograph - it looked like it had came straight out of Area 51 at the time, so sleek and 'liquid' did it look. Imo it still looks contemporary - the years don't seem to have aged the design and the F1 still looks modern alongside its newer counterparts as seen in this video. I did some research and the F1 at the Park Lane showroom was car #65 and was also the last standard road car built. It sold in 2008 apparently with only 437km on the clock and went for £2,400 000. It was shipped to Texas.

Jaguar got round the problem with the 'Lightweight 'E'' types by having them as a continuation of the early 1960s batch of cars. A 'new' McLaren, unfortunately, will still have to have all today's bits and bobs that wreck a true performance car.
