- Looking to go rock crawling with 6 of your closest friends? There's now a Grand Cherokee for that. Although not technically Jeep's first, or even second three row vehicle, this is the first time there has ever been a 3-row Grand Cherokee that's called a "Grand Cherokee."
Part 2: • Three Rows Of Rock Cra...
Although bigger on the outside than the Highlander, Explorer or Pilot, Jeep says those are exactly the models they are targeting with the base model. Who are the Overland and Summit trims targeted at? Without a doubt it's Land Rover, BMW, and Mercedes... No kidding.

I've gone from reviewer to reviewer and I always burn out because of the subjective nature of content but Alex has always been extremely informative and gives you every single practical thing you can think of in such a offhanded natural way you can't help but keep watching. Fast paced but never too fast. I love it!
agreed. If you're seriously considering a purchase, Sir Alex is the gold standard for helping to make an informed decision.
Love the silver color. Waiting for two row……..don’t need a bus

Part 2: ruclips.net/video/L0NAqeazjYA/видео.html
Note: In addition to the 2-row Grand Cherokee happening by the end of the year, Jeep also announced there will be a plug in hybrid model of the Grand Cherokee and its obvious that the tooling and body panels already exist. (I toured the factory and saw them) Charge port on the driver's side front fender if you're interested...
Are you getting the Tesla model S Plaid?
I’m confused on 1 thing and it’s probably because I didn’t get proper sleep last night, but on the child’s seat in place folding you said the child seat must be anchored properly and the “window weights must be in all 4 corners” what is a window weights and why is that related to a baby seat?
I’m sure it’s obvious and just common senses to most people but I’m not following today very well
I'll keep my Volvo thanks
I'm really curious to see pricing on the 2 row version of this. It looks really, really good, but the third row presumably adds a LOT of cost and we would never need it or use it. I would also prefer a shorter wheelbase from the two row, but I guess it is possible they might use the same wheelbase and just bring in the rear bumper more.
I wonder if it will be more similar to the Jeep Wrangler PHEV or the Pacifica PHEV.
Alex you are the best car reviewer
Yep, and he likes amber rear turning signals, like most normal people
I watch almost every single review from him. Just like that. Sometimes I binge.
Most in depth reviewer that know vehicle places in prices and class instead of comparing nevermind!
If there's anything Alex really wants you to know about himself - it's his color preference for turn signals
It's an unhealthy love...
Amber is the color of my energy
@@AAutoBuyersGuide I agree with you. Red rear facing turn signals can often be confused as someone braking in a rhythmic pattern, much like a turn signal. Amber is the way to go, squential if you're really going for the win.

Excellent review, very detailed (which is great) and good explanations and commentary of all the features. Well done.
Another great review!! Thank you Alex
Great review! Thank you!
That interior is STUNNING
Thank you Alex. I really enjoyed this and look forward to your detailed review.
Jeep seats are not comfortable on distance rides
I really like your reviews!!! I’m waiting for the second review of the Kia Carnival. But this Jeep is on my list too. Thank you!
Beautiful vehicle, inside and out. Thanks, Alex.
Amazing review. Truly a great build.
They brought that wonderful tilt feature from the Pacifica; love it!
Those buttons above the center infotainment screen mirror the seven slots of the grille. Cool stuff!
Thank you for pointing out red turn signals I'm the rear. Such a pet peeve of mine in terms of design. Second only to taillights in the bumper
Gross, kia/hyundai loves doing that for some reason.
Also love your graphics windows. Great job
wow im stunned by this Jeep. im not a jeep guy but they nailed this summit model
My dream car. Good review!
I secured the front struts on those Chasis 2!
If you need a 3 row midsize SUV, which one you would buy, GCL summit reserve or Lincoln aviator reserve II with dynamic package?
It looks like a mother in law would be happy with the 3rd row on this new Jeep.
Why is the VW Atlas not added to the vehicle size comparison?
@alexonautos Hard points look similarly sized/spaced/located vs the Durango. How much do the two vehicles differ?
if you to the Build Your Car section on Jeep website, the Altitude seems to be the best looking trim to me. Black rims, blacked out badges and blacked out all the chrome lines. No other trims seem to have the option for any of these.
Alex, please do a review of the safety features and compare that to the new 2022 Nissan Pathfinder, like the lane center tech and whether it has Head up display (HUD). Thanks.
Can you do a review of the base Laredo trim or Altitude trim? Like to see what you get with lower trims too.
When is the two row coming? Im ready for it!
It’s crazy how good some Stellantis interiors are (e.g this Jeep, Pacifica Pinnacle), and then how old school some of their interiors are (e.g Dodge cars).
I watched Doug, tfl, and u and I give you the thumbs up good reviews
I currently own a 19 Grand Cherokee but I’m looking to get a 3rd row. I can’t decide between this, the atlas or the Telluride. I want something that has enough leg room in the 3rd row. I had a Highlander and felt it was useless so I went back to the Grand Cherokee.
If I opted for the 60/40 middle bench, can either section be tilted forward and keep a child seat in place?
The summit trim is stunning
I'd love to see a comparison with grand Cherokee L against the Avartor and the Q7, X7 and gls
Another great review Alex. Keep up the great work.
I’ll wait for the two row version
The rear end reminds me of a BMW X7. It’s a great looking crossover.
Thanks for the detailed insight why the tow capacity is less than the Durango even though there is a v8 engine
Did you test out that McIntosh sound system? Don’t think I missed that in the video. How was it?
So the palisade and telluride have "locking diffs" electronicly locked at least. How would you classify them ? A minivan or true crossover
They don't have any locking diffs actually. They have a multi-plate clutch to connect the rear axle to the transmission but it cannot remain locked at all speeds/power levels.
You bring up good points that people forget about. Baby seats,
That's a beautiful Pacifica 4x4!
Wait. The v8 has a start stop button? Or is this still only a v6?
do you thing the high trim with v8 is competitive with the gx460?
Very impressive interior. I think these will sell well for Jeep.
Overall sales will be excellent for this very soon to be released 5th generation Jeep Grand Cherokee L. Prior generation Jeep Grand Cherokees sold well and I'm sure this one too. I assume you plan on getting it, right?
i really don't know what to make of this new Jeep. its going to be interesting to see the full review and a few on the road
How does it compare withe the Kia Telluride?
I am not a Jeep guy. But i LOVE this. I mean personally id get the 2 row or wait for that. I hate the look of how long it is for that 3rd row that i do not need. But yea. Fancy.
The new version of the Grand Cherokee L and the upcoming 2-row version seem to follow the philosophy of BMW and Mercedes. The GLS and X7 are essentially 3-row versions of the GLE and X5 respectively. I am very excited for the 2-row version when that comes out later in the year. Most of the optional equipment on my 2021 model is now standard so it should be a much better value than the current version.
I just bought a new 2022 JGC Limited only to find out next day the A/C is not working. Not blowing cold air. It has been in the delete for four days and cannot diagnose the issue. Delearship open a case and is waiting for Jeep to come back with some guidance. They check another one in the lot not sold yet and also has the same condition.....
Gonna be an interesting time, your cherokee L review goes up 6/17, then infiniti reveals the QX60 on 6/23. Both are tempting to me.
Any word on when the 2 row shorter model will come out?
What are the Approach, Breakover and Departure angles of JGC-L w/ and w/o Air Suspension?
He will probably get into all that in the driving portion of the review later in June.
Its better than the Outgoig Grand Cherokee in every measurement
The GC Summit looks good.
So what’s difference between summit and summit reserve?
Would you have bought this if it was available when you had to buy your Durango a few months ago?
Those are fog lights on the Overland? They look more like foglettes.
@Blaze Alameda You my good sir have won my heart with that statement.
When will the 2022 be released?
The summit is pretty bonkers expensive but nicely appropriated
Would you cancel Durango order for this??
Is there gonna be a diesel option?
Hello Alex. As always good review on your vehicle videos. I'm glad this upcoming new generation 5th generation Jeep Grand Cherokee will get released this year. It was long overdue. This will be a complete redesign from the ground up along with dimensional changes and additional features since the 2011 model year. I'm glad this time around third row seating will be available. Third row seating was first rumored for the third generation Jeep Grand Cherokee which I have, but it never came to fruition for the production model. Third row seating was also rumored for the current fourth generation which will very soon become the outgoing generation Jeep Grand Cherokee, but as we all know it never came to fruition for the production model. Generally speaking, automakers or companies regardless of what they specialize in respond to customer feedback. With that being said Jeep mentioned in their Conference presentation video few months ago that they decided to include third row seating this time for the upcoming 5th generation Jeep Grand Cherokee based on requests made by current Jeep Grand Cherokee owners. The requests made to include 3rd row seating wasn't a little bit. It was more than quite of few requests made including one by me. Despite achieving good overall sales year after year for the Jeep Grand Cherokee, Jeep had to do something to address passenger capacity. They had to do something this time because most of the mid-size SUV rivals have 3rd row seating. So, that means Jeep had to include third row seating for their upcoming new generation mid-size SUV. Glad they did. I currently have the third generation Jeep Grand Cherokee in the Limited trim and I have intentions on getting the Jeep Grand Cherokee L. However, I'm not going to get it this year. I'm not going to get the first year of the new generation. I'll get either the second or third year of the new generation Jeep Grand Cherokee L so that it'll give me more time to put some money away for it and also by that time couple more standard features will get added. When the time comes for me to get it I'll get it in the Overland trim nicely equipped with the legendary 5.7 liter HEMI V8 engine. This year 2021 will belong to Jeep. Two new Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles will get released which will be the third row seating Jeep Grand Cherokee L to get released soon and the Jeep Grand Cherokee with the usual two rows of seats later in the year. Also, two Wagoneer full size SUVs will get released as well this year. The Jeep Wagoneer will compete with the regular full size SUVs while the Jeep Grand Wagoneer will compete with the luxury full size SUVs. Based on videos along with images I've seen for the Grand Wagoneer, the overall interior will give the interiors of the Cadillac Escalade, Lincoln Navigator, Mercedes GLS, BMW X7 and Infiniti QX80 a run for their money. For this year 2021 bold statements will be made for sure with the release of the two Grand Cherokee vehicles and two Wagoneer vehicles. When that happens it'll send the rival competitors into immediate frantic mode and back to the drawing board.
Was that the summit reserve??
I heard you say Dodge Durango. I was going to say get it if you wanted setting for 7. I like it for folding it down for more cargo. Most of the time I have 2nd and 3rd rows down. Love the Durango.
He owns a Dodge Durango and he make sure to mention it in any video in which he is reviewing an SUV
I would imagine they wanted the inline 6 to fit in compartment when it comes out.
Who would've thought? After the Liberty and Patriot, they would keep the Compass and styled a Grand Cherokee after the Compass. Will be interesting to see what happens to their lineup with a Grand Wagoneer right alongside it.
Required fuel ⛽ type?
Is it just me or do the turn signals look amber, not red???
I think they have a winner on their hands. But the V8 Summit is going to be a hard sell. Especially against the X5 and GLE. I priced several GC L trims and think the Altitude is the goldy locks. 44K with leather, sunroof, remote start and heated seats. Who needs heated cup holders, massaging seats and a ventilated third row. I just wish the V6 would make a bit more power.
I think the Durango and this Jeep share power trains, hence why they have a similar size.
like it but have to go to overland to get a v8 and off road package
Engine still feels like a drag other than that it looks very good. Why cant they have a base v6 outputting 350hp/390lbft?
Yes my wife's 3.6 durango is a drag and 55k miles and already has ticking
@@shane401 the 3.6 will always have a slight ticking, its a characteristic of the motor.. did people forget its the only V6 on the market with out Direct Injection?
Looks promising
You can get all the luxury tech from the summit in the overland and still get all the offroad goodies, just not the color schemes and materials (since it's designed to be more offroady, this nice interior would get ruined pretty quick)

So if you are running Apple Maps or Google Maps (and using those for navigation) via the smart phone integration, can the driver gauges show the map interface with the appropriate turn by turn navigation? Or will it be the prompts only? The five second demo was too short for me to gauge this.
3:33 Spot on about the Highlander and Pilot are more skin to minivans with an elongated hood. KIA carnival looks more like an SUV than those crossovers.
I like it alot, very pricey $$, is there going to be a new Durango based on this in the future?
No
does it come in a standard wheelbase non-L version?
Yes it’s coming later this year.
Alex, when does the 2 row GC debute?
All we were told is later this year
I'm so glad that it's based on Alfa Romeo's Gorgio platform, this will definitely be an advantage when the SRT versions come.
SRT version will not come because FIAT is phasing out the Giorgio platform for the new STLA platform for EV's.
Where are rear monitors?
I think the grand Cherokee L is a X7 ,Q7 and GLS fighter well at least overland and Summitt modes everything down below is for main stream customers
It can be cross shopped but it’s not it’s direct competitor.
Hi, Alex, I watch your review of different cars I liked this review I enjoyed it this Cherokee Jeep looks awesome however I've watched many third rows cars review this is spacious in the third row not touched the head a lot of gaps and leg room I liked that there's is a huge amount of space cargo area 17 cubic fit nice amount of huge of power four wheels drive 3.5 turbos inline six 8speed automatic 293 hp 260 pound-feet of torque if we get v8 then it would be going 357 hp and 390 pound-feet of torque but the price will be higher than base model thanks.
It is pretty inside, but i don't get their choices of screen placement... it's either floating tablet like laptop on office desk, or low positioned dash integration. Why low bellow air vents? Air vents can be low closer to blower, integrated screen should be higher better for straight view
Thank you Alex... easily my top RUclips automotive channels... (no particular order)

Trail and Track Hawk please.
Why is the Durango not in this comparison?
The new Cherokee and Wagoneer are targeting the "Land Rover" market prestige. At a far more affordable price... Good move, Jeep!
When is the trackhawk L coming? :)
I have to say I love the look...but I'd wait to hear about reliability.
6 years of JGC and all I did was oil changes and tire replacements.
So now that they are doing the grand Cherokee L, how does the Grand Wagoneer fit into the mix? Is if this the grand Wagoneer but with a different name?
The Wagoneer is much bigger and its a body on frame SUV
The Grand Wagoneer is meant to compete with vehicles like the Lincoln Navigator and Cadillac Escalade. The Grand Cherokee L is more closely related to the Cadillac XT6, and Lincoln Aviator.
My Highlander is a minivan, them fighting words, I am sad. There is a lot of gloss black that will scratch easily.
Who ever heard your out in Michigan. Usually its out on the west coast.
To get that MacIntosh Sound System, what is the lowest Trim level one can Go to get that option?? Waiting for Next Review!
You need a pretty big garage too fit this one!
Standard American garage has several feet to spare.
I test drove one and it felt smooth to drive and the interior is beautiful but ticky-tacky still. And why can I never get good transmission reviews? I’d go Durango or 4Runner any day
They need to hurry up with the 2 Row. Don’t need the 3rd row myself and wanna see the price difference. Wonder if Alex likes this better then his Durango? Lol
THE COMMANDER!!!!
How does it compare to a range rover sport
The angle on that screen is wrong. You can see the reflection of the sunroof. Not good. So far it’s my biggest issue. But I have a 2020 GC Summit. Maybe they’ll fix the screen for 2023
