    Yeah for sure go for the 5.7. Our cruisers are almost a 50/50 mix of v8 and v6’s. By far more problems with the v6 engines. Head and valve train issues. I think it’s due to the demand we put on them and lots of idling. For us the 5.7 has been very reliable and the drivers overwhelmingly prefer them. The biggest difference in performance is noticed in higher speeds. The difference in 0-60 is one thing but I’d say the difference of 0-100 is an even bigger deal breaker for us. Loaded down with equipment and turning and catching up to cars at interstate speeds is a struggle for the v6. Love the side by side comparisons you do!

      I will say the Gen 3 V6 is pretty much bulletproof, I’d say this V6 has faired well over the years to it’s competitors like GM and Hyundai.
      The 5.7 has it’s issues as well just like the V6. A family member is almost hitting 130k on her Pacifica Limited and asked me what Chrysler product to look into, I told her to look into the Durango RT Tow&Go.

    I've always gotten my Jeeps in V8 in the past (3 of them). I just got the 2022 Overland in V6. The torque curve is pretty good from 0-30+. It's perfectly fine for city driving and gets better gas mileage. Yes, the V8 is quicker and has better performance, but the V6 is soooo much better than what it was even 10 years ago. Back in the day the V6 was underpowered and really impacted the driving experience. I think the V6 these days is good enough and saves a lot of money upfront in vehicle acquisition cost & gas down the line. V8s are VERY thirsty!!

    Hello JB Reviews. Good comparison video between the Jeep Grand Cherokee L in the Overland trim with the V6 and the same trim level with the V8 engine. While watching the video I saw and heard the differences between the two engines. The V8 engine with the definite advantage. When the time comes for me to get the Jeep Grand Cherokee L it'll be in the Overland trim with the 5.7 liter HEMI V8 engine. I'm on agreeable terms with what you said about the Summit and Summit Reserve trims. The rims on those two trims are not as stylish like the 20 inch rims on the Overland trim. It appears that the rims on the Summit and Summit Reserve trim levels have that luxury/comfort/relaxed look. Maybe during the mid-cycle refresh year one or two more rims might be more stylish will be available for those two top trim levels. They did that for the outgoing fourth generation Jeep Grand Cherokee on the mid-cycle refresh year. So, let's see what happens when the time comes.

    Very good review. I had a 2013 Grand Cherokee Ltd. with the 3.6 and it was a great engine. Put 125m miles on it and it ran like it was brand new when I sold it in 2020. I purchased a 2019 Chrysler 300C platinium edition with 1200 miles on it, with the 5.7 hemi engine. I now have 42,000 miles on it and i still enjoy getting into it and driving the car. Its wonderful. more power than you would ever need, but yet when the mood strikes, its got a nasty attitude. I love it. I am getting towards 80 years old, and in another 2 years when I buy a new car, it WILL be a grand cherokee with the hemi in it. (GOD WILLING). Good review, jeeps are expensive !!!!!!!!

    I have a 2020 GC High Altitude with 5.7. It is a great combo. You can drive it like a comfortable, people hauler or drive it aggressively and it will automatically (or forced hitting the button) and the air suspension tightens up and drops down, steering tightens up, transmission recalibrates with faster shifts. It is a great all around machine. Look forward to getting a new one with the new body style.

    • @user-cj7dv2kc6d

      Air suspension drops .75 inches in sport mode or above 50... it does not 'tighten up'. The shocks are not magnetic and there is nothing that changes with the dampening (in the wk2 with quadralift). The steering does not tighten up in sport mode... aside from putting the steering into general sport setting on the uconnect screen. But if you think it does then keep on thinking it. 😀

    Nice to see the acceleration difference between the two powertrains, thx for sharing! I'd estimate real world combined mpg between both awd models is a 3-5 mpg difference. Most sales will still be the V6. It's comparable in acceleration to it's V6 class competitors. It's a pricey machine in the higher trims so unless you're a driving enthusiast, tow a lot as you mentioned or load up a lot with passengers/cargo most will be fine with the more available V6. I don't know what's happening currently with Jeep production but some members of the JGCL FORUM are complaining that JEEP are shipping models (Overland/Summit?) that should have the adaptive air suspension WITHOUT it currently? And showing a $750 credit (when the air system would cost thousands!) on the window stickers! Possible chip/part issues? A number of new owners or those waiting on orders are not happy campers and think Jeep are being deceptive about this. I can't confirm any of this but just came across this info on the forum. Other complaints relate to noisy a/c, connectivity issues with carplay, laggy uconnect, flimsy panels around center console. Mostly "new vehicle" bugs that should work themselves out but the "non-adaptive air suspension" in the models that should have it if true is concerning. Anyone shed more light on this would be great? Want to pull the trigger on an Overland V8 by early next year but spending this kind of money I'd want peace of mind as part of the package too!

      I ordered a loaded overland and the confirmation paperwork showed the 750.00 credit. I had the dealer make sure the vehicle was indeed going to have air suspension. Had it came without it, I wouldn't have taken delivery,period. The other thing I wanted to give you a heads up about is if you order it with McIntosh audio, there are issues with it, randomly locking up squeezing loudly and loss of control until it stops and reboots. Aniyi g as hell and no pattern. Been in for repairs 5 times, and if Chrysler doesn't dig the head out and quit with the star flow system for troubleshooting, I'll lemon law this thing. At 65,000 large iwo t put up with it.

      @user-cj7dv2kc6d Год назад

      All depends on what kind of driving you do. All hwy driving the difference may be just a couple mpg. If it's all stop and go city driving the difference will be more like 5 mpg or more. I have the 5.7 and it downs gas very quickly in the city.. like 12mpg. But hwy can be up to 22 with mds.

Worked at GM and have for many years purchased GM products, but now they are not offering many options and they sure don't listen to customer ideas and suggestions. Yes, the FAMILY does get a discount, but if you can't get what you want, BIG DEAL! Price is the only thing that's got us thinking, maybe not now. The comparison of light and dark interiors is something I just don't understand in people. Even the outside color makes a big difference in hot weather. V6 is the play. Drove a Durango with the penta from Lake Tahoe to San Fran in 100 degree weather at 8000 feet up and down mountains with 5 people and all the gear. V6 was plenty strong. V8 sounds better but you'll pay $10,000 premium over the life of the car with upfront upcharge and then fuel economy that sucks. Sure it sounds better and incrementally faster but honestly both engines are antiques and I wouldn't pay extra for the V8.

    Great video. You did this test well and definitely have good mechanical knowledge about the two powertrains.
    At the risk of answering a question nobody might be asking, my brother and I have done identical loops towing the same ~2500 lbs trailer and jet skis on highway and country roads. He averaged 15.6mpg in his WK2 3.6L Overland, and the following weekend taking my 2020 Explorer ST we averaged 15.9mpg. As similar as we could make the test. It is clear my ST had significantly more power in reserve with its 400hp / 415 lb ft, but it was an interesting comparison nonetheless. This was a half hour each direction, roughly 80% highway.
    I was set on a WK2 5.7L Trailhawk until we had a second kid and I needed a bit more space with a third row. Of the WK2 I really enjoyed the added power and torque of the 5.7L and in my mind there was no question which to get, especially considering the fast speed highway towing I do. The ST may not have the interior quality of the L especially, but for me it was a better decision. Better bang for the buck getting a used model, as what I paid would equate to only a new limited L with a 3.6. But the ST has a phenomenal powertrain and brakes, way better performance than the 5.7, with fuel economy approaching or equal to the 3.6. If you can live with the interior and build quirks, and stiffer suspension it's a great option.
    Keep up the great work JB!

    I've had two 3.6L JGC WK2s only because there were no Hemis on lot and I was in a hurry. I would strongly advise a Hemi if you have any designs on keeping one long term. It's so lame and uninspiring with the V6. Difference in fuel economy is negligible on a long trip. The whole point of getting a Grand Cherokee in the 90s was to geta 318 or 360, a 4wd SUV that was pretty quick for even performance cars back then.

The white paint was by far much cooler in the direct sun light than any other color, even colors close to white. Nothing came close to white paint temperature. On a 85 deg. day with direct sunlight, I could keep my hand on the white paint for a long as I wanted. Any other color you can not keep your hand on those colors for even a few seconds, unless you are looking start burning your hand. Im looking at the Grand Cherokee’s now. Thanks for the info.

      Hey David, I have not driven the Acura MDX but my wife did have a 2012 Acura MDX. As far as reliability goes, I believe Jeep has gotten better but most of the tech is new so I expect some issues over the next 3 years. Acura needs Premium fuel and I think the MDX is a little more money option for option. If you plan on keeping it that long, I recommend getting a manufacture service contract if you are concerned about reliability 👍🏾

    • @jefferybaxter1225
      @jefferybaxter1225 2 года назад +3

      Hello David. Between the Jeep Grand Cherokee L in the Summit Reserve trim and the Acura MDX with the Type S trim, I would say get the Jeep Grand Cherokee L Summit Reserve. If you get that trim level Jeep Grand Cherokee L get it equipped with the legendary 5.7 liter HEMI V8 engine so that it'll easily match up with the Acura MDX Type S performance wise. Do that because the MDX Type S is a turbo charged 3.0 liter V6 producing 355 horsepower. The 5.7 liter V8 on the Jeep Grand Cherokee L produces 357 horsepower. The V6 engine on the Jeep produces 290 horsepower and it wouldn't be powerful enough to go toe to toe against the MDX Type S. So, get the Jeep Grand Cherokee L with the V8 engine. Another reason to get the Jeep with the V8 is because the pound feet of torque is also more than the MDX Type S pound feet of torque. 355 pound feet of torque for the MDX Type S which matches the horsepower number while for the Jeep Grand Cherokee L with the V8 engine has 390 pound feet of torque. So, a 2 horsepower advantage for the V8 Jeep Grand Cherokee L and a 45 torque advantage as well. Two other reasons to get the Jeep would be better comfort in the third row seating area. In the Jeep Grand Cherokee L there will be USB/USB-C ports, cup holders, air vents and a small storage area for third row seating occupants. The Acura MDX Type S just with only 2 out of 4 with those features. Finally, another reason to choose the Jeep Grand Cherokee L is due to the fact that it has more cargo space. It's 84.6 cubic feet of space for the Jeep Grand Cherokee L while it's 71.4 cubic feet of space for the Acura MDX.

      @@jonathanstrater903 I'm on agreeable terms with you on that. JB, out of the hundreds of useless reviews out there you point out the good with honesty. Regarding the transmission you are 100% right. I have the Limited X 850R-E Transmission and annoyed to all heck. Shifting is harsh going through slow intersections, harsh down shifts. Come to find out the ZF is produced by ZF and to there standards and the 850R/E is a ZF but put together by FCA meaning Software coding, Gearing etc. Way to many Software issues and clunkyness. My son bought a new 2020 V6 Laredo and his is smoother upshifting but clunks on accasional down shifts. I think L adds additional weight which causes the V6 to not be as desirable while the older version with dual exhaust is just perfect (assuming you don't toe much) just my opinion. You don’t really need a V-8 if you’re driving these as commuter vehicles or city driving. With gas at $6.00 per gallon, It’s gonna cost you about $100 to fill the tank. The 3.6 L Pentastar V6 Is a Reliable and proven design, based on the German Daimler Engineering, with hundreds of millions of miles of durability. You don’t need more than 296 hp. I purchased A loaded Limited with a panoramic dual sunroof, the 10.1 inch Uconnect upgrade, upgraded alpine stereo, upgraded 20 inch alloy wheels, trailer tow package, and priced out at $53,400. That’s a hell of a lot less than a Overland. Granted the Overland has the air suspension, but how often are you going to be climbing over rocks with that extra 4 inch lift? Most of the buyers of these vehicles will be driving them to the local Walmart. Be sensible and buy what you need, not what you dream about.
