    I wanted to share a bit of behind-the-scenes SBSK info. You might notice some of the angles of me and Teddy interacting are not positioned perfectly. That is because I decided long ago to optimize human connection in these interviews as opposed to videography. I learned quickly that many people I work with can feel overwhelmed by having additional people present for the interview. That is why for the majority of SBSK it has been just me and a camera. When I interact with a person, like Teddy, I set up my tripod and forget it is there. We then focus solely on forming a bond as opposed to having extra stimuli that can be distracting. Anyway, thanks for understanding and always supporting SBSK through the years. I can’t believe our 8 year anniversary is in a month!

      thank you not only for sharing the stories of this beautiful people, but also for teaching us how to interact and make them feel confortable. I feel a lot of people including me don't know how to interact with them and are afraid to be felt insensible or offensive. I love how you always ask how to make friends with them. and how many times the answer is simply to talk to them like we normally we would with the other people. it's important to be reminded that even if they sometimes can't reply or connect like we're used to, they're normal people that just want others to act like we would with everyone else and be friends.

Even when he doesn’t speak(most of the time) I know exactly what he’s saying based on his non verbal communication. And it’s more beautiful than any words. Just being present. ♥️🙌🥰🏆

    Teddy reminds me a lot of my son Thaddeus. Thaddeus is 8 years old and has level 3 non verbal autism and has cone-rod dystrophy which makes him legally blind and color blind. He also has severe food allergies. Thaddeus does all the loud noises and sounds like Teddy and also at times will go 24 hours without sleeping. I have two other children and they also have adapted to the loud noises and are able to sleep through all the loud noises Thaddeus makes. Thaddeus is a very happy guy just like Teddy. chris, i really wish you'd do a spin-off about how amazing the siblings are, or even include them more in your questions about what they like to do, and their hopes/dreams. i think it's great you asked about the mental health of the mom, and love that you've done that before with other parents, but i can only imagine how the siblings feel. like, it seemed the daughter had more to say but didn't want to say anything negative. i'd love to get their perspectives too!
    either way, i've been subscribed to your channel for years and love what you do. no hate on your, this family or anyone else in your videos. just an idea.

    • @Izzy-cp8yt
      @Izzy-cp8yt Год назад +32

      I agree. It's easy for the siblings, especially those with fewer support needs, to get almost forgotten or overlooked because people just assume they're fine. But they have their own perspectives, opinions, dreams, etc, and they need to be seen, heard, and recognized as much as their sibling. Sometimes they're not as fine as they may seem, or they may just not want to be seen as "taking" time or attention from their sibling.
      Maybe a bonus playlist of Special Siblings? They wouldn't have to be long videos, but I agree it would be nice to see the siblings get their own chance to be in the spotlight.

Even without words I still know his heart and he knows mine. It took time but I honestly believe that he's happy and perfect how he is. He's so much like my chromosome 18 boy. Loves sounds, being talked at, hugged, danced with, goes crazy for the head scratching and will yank you over for it. (We've been teaching him "head scratch please" the last 3 weeks) He too is non-speaking but still has such a personality. A lot of people don't see it at first and think he has little going on in his mind but if he can tell you're genuine he really comes out of his shell. He's come a long way communicating with an AAC iPad device in the past few years and has started to show just how much he does think. He just started doing multiplication in school and sometimes he even answers the teacher's questions before she finishes asking them! People think individuals with disabilities are so different and don't know how to interact with them. The reality is they respond well to kindness, love, and patience, same as the rest of us. Everybody just wants to feel a sense of safety and belonging.

    I am ALWAYS surprised that every child you interact with responds to you. You connect with sounds, songs, high fives and just acting silly. When I watch the beginning of these videos I always feel sad. Then, by some sort of miracle you bring out that persons , hidden, lovable personality and spark of joy. Amazing. Thank you for what you do!

    I do hope you know that every kid you have interacted with, and interviewed, have felt and seen how good natured and good hearted yo are. Your genuinely kind, playful, and have no problem acting wild to get them to smile and laugh. Thank you for introducing to us all these kids and adults, so can learn about their plights, and learn something new ourselves, the viewers!

    Always love coming to this channel to see the wonderful people always highlighted. It not only shows the humanity and needs for the differently abled individuals but also the families and how they are feeling as well. It's not always easy but there is definitely love.

    I go to adult special education and I have a best friend who when we first became friends I didn't see his disability I sew him for him only later in life I realised he has a mental challenge but it didn't change how much I love him as a friend and as my little brother from another mother he is kind and the sweetest person you'll ever meet my message is don't treat people any different just because they have a disability or anything in general we are all human and should spread love and not hate 😊❤️☮️

    Shoutout to the Grandpa! I feel he read Teddy the best and that they have a really solid bond going! The rest of the family is great too, I was just really impressed with how well the Grandpa was able to pick up on Teddy's cues and seemed the most calm/less stressed.

    My daughter also has a rare genetic disorder and Teddy reminds me of her! She is also nonspeaking, but loves vocalizing and music and silly sounds, too!

    I work with people who are non-verbal and they teach me so much, the love they give you is the best feeling ever! People sometimes don’t realise how much they understand and how smart they are ❤️
