In reality Bruce actually beat Wong it was never said outright but Bruce’s knuckles where apparently bruised and Wongs head was swollen from what reports and accounts said
He was also never a Shaolin monk, no Chinese wanted anything to do with Bruce Lee once he set foot in American soil, teaching Blacks and Latinos their martial arts, also because Bruce Lee had a quarter German in him, wong Jack man was Chinese and taught the bullshido version of Kung fu, and also didn't like how he was teaching Americans martial arts, Bruce and his quote-un-quote "fight" lasted for only a few seconds with Bruce screaming in Mandarin "do you give!?" This fight does perfectly demonstrate in theory why wing chun isn't good, because it is a sub style of the Shaolin, only for phone booth close quarter fighting, how an actual fight go between a fully trained northern Shaolin monk who knows how to use kung fu effectively and a guy who trains solely wing chun, would look similar to a boxer banging up a regular guy, because kung fu used effectively wouldn't use any of those flowery movements unless it's a grappling context, kung fu used effectively is straight punches and straight kicks
Bruce Lee was being arrogant and he have a very big ego and he was trying to fight Wong cause he wants to be better than him. But Wong's intention was not that. He wants to teach bruce lee to be better and break his limits to push him to be better. They say the more you fight someone the more you understand a person that's why in the end. He finally realize and showed respect.

He just tore down my ego. In Cantonese, and Wong of course surrendering. The actual fight was very different and nothing close to a draw.

The entire film was built around this fight, but it was probably the weakest one. According to Philip Ng (the actor for Bruce Lee) he tried to consult on the choreography and direction of this scene, saying that "this is how we would do it in Hong Kong" but the director refused to listen. The restaurant beat-down at the end (which Ng was allowed to consult on) has way more dynamic energy and feels a lot less stilted or awkward.
It looks like Bruce Lee realized the guy was about to use a deadlier tiger style and that he had been holding back so Bruce better simmer down, not familiar with the actual story.

Many discrepancies with BL account. One, his wife wrote that the fight only lasted 3 to 5 minutes, why did Lee tell Black Belt magazine he was so winded after the fight? was BL so out of shape in his 20's that he could not fight 3-5 minutes straight? I think 20 minutes was more realistic. After he fight, BL changes his whole fighting style. If he won why did he have to make so many drastic changes? Third, BL tells the whole world openly that he won the fight breaching his agreement with Wong to keep it secret. Then Wong publishes an open challenge in a newspaper and Lee never responds. If Lee could easily beat him, then why he did not respond and agree to a public match?
