I'm a white belt and having issues making sense of what overall attacking trategy I should be aiming for when I have my feet on my opponents thighs in open guard. Any suggestions? I'm training in gi.

From the supine position, a good starting strategy for a white belt could be to move your feet to their hips so you can control their center of gravity a lot better. From there you have some good options. You can look to control ankles with your hands and use your feet to off balance the opponent (there are many sweeps from this position, the most popular being the tripod sweep). You could also look to control the upper body at the collar or sleeves and pull them into closed guard or get their hips high enough off the ground to sweep them to the side that you are controlling up top. Be careful though with that strategy on another novice player as you may dump them inadvertently on their head or poorly placed arm.

did you end up to a good strategy? i am on the same spot now. trying to engage to delariva-reverse but having trouble with good opponents so i want to get better to being able to get to xguard-single x or butterfly if they seat down. also shin to shin is something that i feel will help a lot
