This is the best tutorial ever! I struggle to pass open guard because most of the time I just don't know what to do. You put it simple and conceptual, instead of focusing on what to do, you explain why and how, which is extremely useful and easier to understand!!!! Thank you so much I'll start drilling more :)

Amazing tutorial! Tomorrow is going to be an absolute banger of a disappointment when I'll try all this and get sweep as usual :) but I will succeed in the end! thanks very much for all your hard work, your pedagogy is superb!

That chest over chest tip is gold. I see that that is probably the reason I don't quite pass guard enough. That and that I don't go to class enough!

I'm pretty new to BJJ, so I may not be able to pull off some of these against more experienced grapplers, but the concepts you present here have already been helpful in getting a little bit closer. Great advice!

That's so interesting. Do any branches besides the Army have BJJ in their training? Would love to know the history behind this and how it came to be.

Thanks Jon, great details and instruction as always! For future passing videos, I’d like to see how you deal with different scenarios, like an opponent who has gotten underneath you (e.g. half guard with deep underhook) or elevated you (e.g. butterfly guard). Thank you!

Quality conceptual video as always, trying to improve guard passing at blue belt level. This has massively helped.
As a lighter athlete do you prefer to attack from side control or mount? I am 77kg and find heavier opponents are harder to attack from mount.

It's crazy how everyone can play open guard against me and have me subbed within a minute, but if I play open guard they pass in 5 seconds and I'm now bottom side controlled... 😂
I hate everything about open guard... I'd rather just tell the guy to stand back up and try to get past the legs before we're both on the ground.

We have quite a few higher belts who give great feedback on what I am doing wrong when playing open guards, but it sure is a learning process. I find that if you have to stop and think, chances are that your guard is already passed.

I'm struggling to pass the open guard when my opponent is sitting up. As soon as I get inside positioning with one of my legs I loose it to one of his legs and in up in a leg entanglement. Or it's hard to push him to his back because he will get grips. Would love some advice!
