I just bought the stand and the tray for $99.99 with free shipping from Earthquake's website and I highly recommend it.
I've split many cords of wood with mine and have used it for 2 years so far.
I cut my wood to 16 inches but it can (harder to do) split 20-inch logs.
The earthquake has a 5-year warranty and I bought 2 more years (7 years total) from TSC.
I could not be happier and you can't beat the price compared to a big splitter.
Yes, it has its limits (but so do the big ones) but I would 100% "buy again".
I run mine off a 2000-watt Honda generator without an extension cord.
    Thanks for the video.

Thanks for sharing that it can be run off a generator- that is good to know.

I think with a few "warranty voiding modifications" that would really rip. Nice!

I'm thinking to replace that button with a toggle switch.

@@donnasewell9754 Just use a squeeze clamp from Harbor Freight to keep the button depressed. 2 dollar fix :)

Or the Harbor Freight foot switch...

I have that same one. I added a chain with a foot lever. Frees up one hand to steady the wood

I have one of these. I've split trunks 24"+ with it - you just have to strategically split the log at 12 o'clock, flip it, and then split it at 6 o'clock. It sits nicely on a tailgate with a generator in the pickup bed running it. I also learned that it has an 18" stroke to the rammer piston, which is about the same length at the distance between my elbow and knuckles - I use my arm as a gage to cut the logs to length with the chainsaw then, no cutting down sticks.

WOW!!! THAT IS NICE! i HOPE YOUR back gets to feeling better!! That electric splitter is so much quieter than the gas models (save what hearing you can) and I'm sure much less maintenance!! Keep up the great videos!! And as always, thank you for creating quality content!!

I have an identical looking machine but mine is only rated at 2 tonnes. The ram on mine moves faster so perhaps it has the equivalent of different hydraulic gearing? I have another manual splitter that uses a bottle jack with 2 pumps. That has one pump for rapid ram movement and one for slow movement.

No matter how you slice it (or split it)
It beats swinging an ax or sledgehammer/wedge or splitting maul !!

This is amazing Eric ! I will probably never need to own one, but what a fantastic demo ! So good to see you are looking after yourself and hope you are back to your best soon.

I’ve got one of these from Harbor Freight and it works surprisingly well for small to medium size logs.

I didn't know electric splitters existed. Very cool! I need to look into something like this myself for similar reasons you did...my back just isn't as good as it used to be.

Sneak over to your neighbors scrap steel pile , might be something there to make a drop on attachment. Those dang old blacksmiths always got something laying around , bet he’ll never miss it :)

I remember back in the late 70's an Engineer From Southworth Machine (Hydraulic Equipment)made and sold something like that. And he added a flywheel to the motor and a 2 stage pump.

I used to do the same collect wood all summer then split in the fall. I would actually rent a large 20ton or so gas splitter for two days and have a massive split a thon... Then after suffering a major back injury myself. Those days are now done but something this small sitting on the ground and moving pieces into it seems like a good alternative. I never knew these things could really do anything and honestly never really investigated. This is actually pretty cool I'm thankful you put together this video. I can still do some things but my massive wood splitting days are over but something like this would really be nice to have.

I couldn't imagine doing my seasonal splitting with that. Maybe good for someone who just needs a few pieces for a decorative fireplace.

I have same one, but the log is bounced out when I use it. That because the wood was not dried well?

As someone who uses splitters alot that sure does look slow. ?

Maybe they should rename the Earthquake and call it "Tremor".
