Gotta love the sound of wood splitting! You need to sharpen the wedge if the wood starts to "POP" before it splits. The wedge should first cut into the wood then separate it.
Bought a 5 ton ryobi used slightly used for $150. I thought that was a good price, same set up as this splitter the only thing is I bought a foot pedal so I can have one hand free to prevent pieces from shooting out like in the video.

what do I do if it hummms when I try to start it? Is the motor frozen?
Are you pulling the handle down also when pushing button? If so and not moving could be you need a 20 amp receptacle to plug into
Your capacitor is burned out. Just needs to be replaced it the motor hums like that.

what a great Idea with the foot switch. Yeah, this one you have to get your face pretty close to work the controls
