  • The first real splits made with my Earthquake 5-ton electric log splitter. Released the torture test video first to show that this splitter will not always split the big logs shown other people's video's.

    Love mine i welded a taller spike to the stock one and it splits thicker logs ive done over 12 cords so far

      Splitting to the left or right of center seems to help these little machines on bigger/tougher rounds. My brother has been using it at our dad's and doesn't mind it too much.

    I think your low on the hydraulic fluid is why it's not pushing to the end of the stroke.
    Check the dipstick.
    The manual will tell you how to check it.
    Thanks for the video :)

    Hi Jeffrey!!😀😀
    That wedge is way too blunt to start splitting a large round. Get a piece of half inch flat steel about 2 inches wide and the height of your wedge sharpen it and weld it to the front of the wedge to get it to start splitting the blocks before it gets to the wide part. It will definitely work better.

    • @thefirewooddoctor
      @thefirewooddoctor  4 года назад +1

      Already planned on making a new wedge for it. Was thinking 1/4" plate would require less power to split. Or some wedge design that uses the wedge you suggest but make it a slip-on wedge that goes around the factory wedge.

      Since this video I split a fingertip open between big chunks of oak and took a chunk of wood to the groin when the saw flicked it up.

      Good idea to stay away from electric splitters if you are doing a lot of wood.

    Thoughts of the usefulness of the work table to catch the split pieces? TSC wants $80 for that and the taller (but not tall enough) stand. If a new stand needs to be made, maybe the table isn't worth it, but am curious of your thoughts.

    • @thefirewooddoctor
      @thefirewooddoctor  3 года назад +2

      Got this splitter for $300, including the stand and work table from Fleet Farm. Is okay, but the splitting wedge sucks for efficiency. Needs to have a narrower tip for the wedge to be efficient. I'll be addressing that issue in an upcoming video.

    • @thefirewooddoctor
      @thefirewooddoctor  3 года назад +1

      The table is definitely worth it. Can build your own stand for it. Like a cheao wood box with an edge around the top so the splitter doesn't go rolling off. Is a pain in the... to wheel it ariund with those little wheels it comes with.

    Did you read the instructions for how to bleed it properly?
    I do believe when you bleed it, before you let it return you need to close the bleeder and then after it returns all the way open the bleeder and run it again. I think it still has air in it.

    • @thefirewooddoctor
      @thefirewooddoctor  4 года назад +1

      The instructions say to leave the bleeder valve open for operation. Even has a label on the work table saying so.

    try to open your air vent see if that will help with the length of the split

      Swisher makes a bigger splitter that is over 20ton in 110/120V. Not many real log splitters are electric.

      Just keep a short piece of wood handy and put it behind each piece you are splitting like a spacer. That makes it able to split the entire piece, as it pushes it further along on the wedge. .
