      I did not really like the level design, it felt so messy and cluttered.
      Some have said this is the case because Sonic CD refers more to Sonic 1's exploration elements and I really have no problem with that as I like exploration in games but I feel that Sonic 3 & Knuckles did it better.
      The whole time travel gimmick did not work that well and occasionally felt so very pointless..

    Sonic CD is wonderful, one of my faves. The time-traveling gimmick is pretty fun, as unlike some of the other 2D Sonics, this one encourages exploration; you’re gonna have to scour every nook and cranny in each Act to locate 1. A sign to warp you to the past AND you have to build enough speed somewhere without stopping or slowing down abruptly to activate the time travel. 2. Eggman’s machine whilst in the past that, once destroyed, will ensure a happy, healthy Good Future for that Act. (Actually visiting said Future is optional unless it’s the third Act of each Zone with the Eggman boss which is always set there) 3. The projector creating an image of Metal Sonic bullying some poor animals. Destroy this, and the critters will repopulate that world. 4. As in Sonic 1, gather up 50 Rings and then make it to the end of the Act to unlock the giant Ring you can jump through to access the Special Stage, a fun little diversion from normal gameplay where you must break all the UFOs to gain one of the seven Time Stones, which, once all seven are earned, will automatically ensure Good Futures for each subsequent Act you have remaining and unlock the good ending. Phew! 100% completion is pretty complex and demanding for such an early Sonic installment, and the real challenge is not accidentally speeding into the end of an Act before you find everything for its Good Future (once past a certain point the screen locks and you will no longer be allowed to backtrack). Sonic CD certainly has a unique feel from the Genesis installments, but one of its crowning achievements is its glorious CD soundtrack. There are two different versions of it. Although I heard the US version first, it wasn’t until years later that I discovered the amazing JP/EU original that just blew me away and instantly became my favorite. Don’t get me wrong, the US soundtrack is good too, but the JP one is absolutely beautiful, and still one of the greatest soundtracks in the franchise. Many composers, such as Tee Lopes, seem to agree, as that version has the most attention and works are inspired by it and its samples to this day. It truly is a collection of bangers, one of my favorite video game soundtracks of all time, and I still listen to it very often! Man, that boss theme is something. Work that sucker to death!! Anyway Sonic CD is a wonderful classic that sadly was hurt somewhat by the Sega CD’s failure, but was thankfully saved by some later re-releases such as its inclusion in Sonic Gems Collection and of course the remastered version available for download online nowadays. Strongly recommend you play it, because Sonic CD remains one of the Blue Blur’s finest!

    I wish the Sega CD was remembered better. I've talked to some people who think this is the only good game it got. They forget games like Snatcher, the Lunar series, Popful Mail, Ecco the Dolphin (which was better than the Genesis version to me, especially its amazing soundtrack), Spider-Man vs. The Kingpin, and quite a few more. I actually kind of wish Nintendo had gone through with their CD-ROM add on. It probably would have inspired Sega to do more with the Sega CD than they did.

    • @NintendoComplete
      @NintendoComplete  4 года назад +5

      There were so many good games for it! Those are great, but yeah, it had way more than just those. Rise of the Dragon, Robo Aleste, Shining Force, Silpheed, Jurassic Park, Road Avenger, and even Revengers of Vengeance. Too many good ones to list!
      I agree, too, that with some competition, we would've seen Sega focus their efforts a bit better on the CD. The PC Engine CD certainly could've helped there if it had more good games brought to the states in English and it wasn't on the verge of death when the Sega CD came out.

    • @GaryBeltz
      @GaryBeltz 4 года назад +2

      Nintendo actually did have a CD add-on it was it was a partnership between them and Sony and it was Ironically called "The Playstation" but they broke off so Sony made their actual Playstation then they tried again with Phillips using their CD-I platform it had LOZ The Wand of Gamalon, LOZ Link the faces of Evil, and some Mario title but that partnership fizzled as well.

      @@cnk9822 Yeah, I've read about that. But I have lots of 25-plus-year-old cartridges that still save the progresses. The oldest is my japanese copy of Final Fantasy 3 for Gameboy that I own since 1991 and when I checked it 2 months ago it still preserved the same save file when I was a kid. Quite impressive. Although, I'm not that lucky with my GBA collection had already replaced most of the batteries.

    • @marcelotakahashi520
      @marcelotakahashi520 4 года назад

      @@GaryBeltz That's right. The longest time I didn't use my console was when I went to college in 2000. The system was kept in its box for 3 years without any use. After that I got it back and when I decided to play Dark Wizard I noticed a error message in my previously 1995's save file. The save was gone... But Sonic's file was still intact. Since then the console is used at least once a month. But when the inevitable happens I already have a back up copy of all my save files in my everdrive ram cart and PC too.

    Happy Birthday, Blue Blur! It's Sonic CD for the- Do I really need to say it? The most underrated of Sonic Games in my opinion... yet also the "Best-Worst" one. As a kid looking through magazines and the like, I didn't like the gimmicks that this game had. After play the Christian Whitehead port, said gimmicks are nice, but poorly implemented. That's this game in its entirety. "Cool gimmicks, done poorly".
    POSITIVES
    • *The FMVs* (These are from Toei. Yeah, THAT Toei! It's absolutely amazing stuff... in the later rereleased of Sonic CD. The original version is super choppy and is missing various animations. Is it hardware limitations? Yes. Is it as jarring as it sounds? *YES!* )
    • *The Soundtrack* (Be it the original Japanese/PAL version or the American version, this soundtrack is absolutely phenomenal. I prefer the Japanese version, but I also prefer American "Wacky Workbench" , "Tidal Tempest" & even "Sonic Boom" over their original Japanese counterparts... even though they also sound great. )
    EDIT: American "Stardust Speedway" is better than the Japanese version
    • *Metal Sonic & Amy Rose* (These have always been some of my favorite Sonic characters because of this game. Metal Sonic is an awesome robotic doppelganger that you must race in order to same Amy. And the later character being great because of her and Sonic's antics (Especially in later games). Amy wants to get together with Sonic, but he isn't down with that, leading to some good laughs. I especially love that unlike most protagonists, Sonic isn't rescuing Amy out of love, but because it is the right thing to do. How many other protagonists can YOU name that act the same way as Sonic rescuing Amy?)
    • *The Metal Sonic Race* (EASILY the best boss in this game. It's challenging, it's a bold idea for a boss in general, and the satisfaction of beating Metal Sonic is great. Well Done, Sega!)
    • *Two Ways in getting the Good Ending* (Roboticizer Destruction or Destruction of UFOs? It's your call.)
    NEGATIVES
    • *Underwhelming Bosses* (These are just painfully boring and easy. Give the bosses from the Genesis games, anyday.)
    • *The Level Design* (One Word. Clusterf*** )
    • *Time Traveling* (This situation: *_"What do you MEAN I didn't maintain speed long enough!?"_* also, going to the Future is pointless. There is nothing to do there at all. )
    • *TOO MANY COLORS* (I can't tell apart the foreground and background unlike the Genesis games. Coupled with the busy level design, and time traveling in it, it's downright abysmal. )
    • *Poor Collision Detection at times* (It isn't common when this will happen to you, but it is annoying when it does happen.)
    Final Rating: 6.7/10
    No, those who think this is the best Sonic game ever made. It clearly isn't. But it is still a good game despite its flaws.
    Play the Christian Whitehead port, though. It's much, MUCH smoother.

    The US sound track is like a mixture of gameshow tv and ecco the dolphin ... i do like a few of the tracks but overall this wrecked the continuity of the game,it doesn't fit the game and doesn't suit the game.
    Took all the trance and techno out and replaced with porno guitar
    I do very much like sonic boom song however i also do like the original song too but id have to agree the sonic boom song is better however it would have been perfect to have had sonic boom intro and the jp/eu ending songs and for each levels second act had a bit of a mixture taking some of the US best tracks
    Can be done with modding easy but iv not found out how to replace intro or endings
    The US bonus level music is good and would suit either speed or invincibility pickups
    Collision chaos US is also rather nice but in no way could top the original but would be awesome for act/zone 2
    Tidal tempest US also is awesome
    And quartz quadrant US is brill but seems unfinished in some way and too short which is a shame
    Boss music ..... awful
    Wacky work bench ... huh ? Soo wrong,original audio was perfect for that zone
    Overall .. the vibe i get from the US soundtrack is a more creepy/mysterious feeling using the timetravel ideas to leave the player in a type of unknown territory and i like that
    The j/eu soundtrack gives me the vibe of speed and wonder and overall the soundtrack was like a big smack to the face showing how technically advanced and amazing a cd audio soundtrack can be for a video game,blending modern techno with speed and sonic was a very very good move and sold me on the idea of cd over cart .. the music by itself was extremely good

      The JPN/EU version of the OST suits Sonic CD much better and you can tell the soundtrack was developed to suit the levels, whereas the US OST was the equivalent of an OST transplant in that they ripped out the JPN one and just straight up stuck a new OST without any consideration to the themes of the levels.
      The JPN/EU level themes and tunes go together hand in glove, whereas the majority of the US level themes and tunes go together like ramen and washing machine detergent, they clash too much. The US boss theme sounds like Dr Robotnik is trying to raise demons from hell, now I could get behind the US boss theme if a bad future was made for the third act, that would make sense; but when you are on the third act of a good future zone, where the colours are bright and happy, with the cool laid back (JPN version) tunes and then you are hit by what sounds like Robotnik sucking the soul of a goat through its anus to summon some evil ancient god of destruction, it's painful on the ears man.

    Música compuesta por Spencer Nilsen, el mismo que compuso las melodías de Ecco the Dolphin...

    Not hating on the Japan Soundtrack, but for me, the US Soundtrack is far superior than the Japan version IMO. The US music completely fits the atmosphere of the Zones, Palmtree Panic sounds like a Jamaican vacation theme that you can play the theme at a beach, Collision Chaos sounds like Rock and Roll along with the Future version, Tidal Tempest US Present theme is by far my favorite, the beginning of the song sounds similar to the Fresh Prince theme and you add the vocals, Quartz Quadrant sounds kinda bland with vocals but it wasn't bad, Wacky Workbench is another one of my favorite, a blend of Funk and Rock with vocals, the Future version is also phenomenal to hear especially with the guitar. Stardust Speedway US Present version absolutely fits the atmosphere of the Zone, the music perfectly describes the nighttime vision of the Zone, plus the US Good Future theme with the epic notes at the end racing against Metal Sonic. Metallic Madness US Present version is also one of the bland versions, but to be honest I prefer that over the Japan counterpart, the US version sounds menacing for a Final Zone which fits a very difficult last Zone (Act 3 Bottomless Pits) before fighting Robotnik. The other themes like the Invincibility theme and the speed boost theme is way better and of course, the US Victory jingle is way better cause that jingle even tho it sounds alot long, but after hearing that jingle it makes you feel complete after completing a Zone especially towards the tail end of the game. And last but not least the Game Over theme, I would definitely say the Japan version is better even tho I kinda like the US version, but to be fair many people have nightmares hearing the US Game Over version Lol. But I will give a slight edge to both the US Game Over theme and the Boss theme mostly cause it's a menacing sound that perfectly fits Dr. Robotnik's motives (him taking over the world and trying to erase Sonic for good) and his rampage on taking over the world while him and Sonic fighting for the sake of the world while hearing those US versions while the Japanese version sounds like him dancing and making him a joke. That's just my honest opinion on the US Soundtrack cause I grew up playing that version.

      So do I. I prefer the house/electro music that was peppered throughout the JPN version, though I also like Sonic Boom.

      Hey! The level design isn't even bad! They're Sonic 1's level design, but expanded
      I can confirm it because I played the game, and it still remains as my favorite Classic Sonic game.
