The point of interest was on the camera, which moved, making it look weird when one of his eyes hit its boundary and the one facing the camera kept following the point. Because it's not a bug, and the system works as intended, SEGA probably didn't feel an overwhelming need to change anything.

I know I'm three years too late for the guy who wondered about this, so I'm just making it a full comment. This was about "Sonic's derpy eyes" when he wins. I think what's happening has to do with how they programmed each character's eyes. I noticed that Espio would always side-eye the camera before a match started, but would suddenly look at his opponent. I think they set it up so the gaze of the player character follows a point of interest. Before the match starts, it's the camera. During the match it's the opponent, and when the match ends it is the camera again (so they fully face the camera during their pose). Unfortunately the camera moves during the end screen, making the player character's eyes follow the point. Because you only see one side of the character at a time, it looks like their eye moves farther than it should from a forward facing view. When their gaze reaches its boundary, the character turns their head to follow the point of interest. You can see this happen with Sonic right here at 2:48- 2:53. Notice his eyes follow the point which is moving at a diagonal going up, and when they reach the top of his eye he raises his head and maintains his gaze at the point.
If you ever want a model example of how to make a great spinoff, look no further. Everything about this game, from the gorgeous levels, the characteristically brilliant OST Sonic games are known for, and even the small touches like rings flying out when you get hit, looks so in-tune with the Sonic universe, it may as well be expanding the series' lore! The hate this game gets will never make sense to me, and I sincerely hope folks warm up to StF someday. Save for a few silly mechanics nobody really likes (really just the comeback system), this is an amazing game with fun, yet deceptively tight and fast-paced action that the devs put a lot of love into, courtesy of Sega AM2. It is absolutely CRIMINAL that I was not only unable to experience this gem in arcades during the 90s (lol limited releases), but iy has also not been ported to a modern console/PC in 2 generations! We need more Sonic the Fighters, dammit! And where's that modern sequel that'll throw Shadow, the rest of the Chaotix and Rouge into the mix?!?!
@@VeloceFirstTM Since the mid-2000s. Game reviewers and sites like ScrewAttack panned this game back when it became widely available via Sonic Gems Collection. A lot of people were writing it off as a "shallow button masher", well into the Xbox 360/PS3 Era. It wasn't until *very* recently when folks like Wusstunes, GuileWinQuote, and other popular Fightin Game YTers starting making videos about how unfathomable based as fuck StF really is. Public opinion on this game has turned around greatly, and I'm all for it. :)
I thought this was a really really basic fighting game when I played it, just because I don’t know the controls, but watching you play just proved to me how wrong I am. This game looks gorgeous as heck, ima go play it again and this time try and learn moves.
I've always wanted to know why there were 8 emeralds but I know there were a lot of isuues with the developers not knowing the names of characters and stuff so it's kinda understandable.
Dang, I forgot all about this one! I remember it being kind of terrible and nonsensical, but in a way that really appealed to me. It was the time in my life I thought "clunky" was good. And I guess I still kind of do. But of course you're much better at it than I ever was.
Mackerel Phones yeahhhh I forgot about this legendary game how can I forget just looking at the music made me realise this is one of the main childhood games in my life opinion lol and the music ahhh
I know I comment on just about all your videos but your descriptions are so good that they inspire me! lol But I see where they were going with it: Virtua Fighter meets Sonic. It's not a bad concept. Problem is, I own this on the Sonic Gems Collection too and the novelty wears off after awhile. I was never into Virtua Fighter anyway so maybe that's my problem. Or maybe the game is mediocre. I don't know. For some reason I want to play Skies of Arcadia now. I never beat that game.
MFields2178 It's all good, I always like to hear people's thoughts. I do those descriptions in part to hopefully inspire some conversation :) I hear what you're saying here, too. I love VF (I really was into 2 and 4 for a long time), but this one really is a super-diet edition, and it gets old quickly. I still find it fun to play for fifteen minutes once in a while, but definitely not hours on end like I can still do with VF2 or VF4Evo. Skies of Arcadia was awesome though, I've played it on the DC. Do you know if the GC port is any different? I want to play it again, and the GC version is way cheaper iirc
I didn't see much difference between the two but as far as differences go, I'm not sure. I never completed neither the DC or GC versions despite really liking the game. For the life of me I don't know why this particular RPG is the one I never beaten. Then again, I beat the Japanese version of FF9 and not the American one. Go figure. Hopefully somebody would know the differences between these two games because I'm curious to know myself.
This game was pretty rare back in the day. Only some arcades had it, and one had to git gud to have the total satisfaction of beating it. Even years later, emulation wasn't widely available yet nor that great, and this collection was pretty much the best way to own an out of arcade copy.
knuclear2010 man I still never emulate but I'm very old skool. I still wear a Walkman. The only 2 games I ever got emulated and I had help was Darkwing Duck for Turbo and The Simpsons Arcade...... For DOS. It sucked. I know it was like closest we got to a home console for the arcade. Wait, I'm getting off track. So yeah, I'm one of those people who buys it from a physical copy. I hate digital.

This game gets hate? Since when?
How did it go
Oye se que hiciste este video ase muchos años pero me puedes decir como te transformartes en super sonic?

WAIT A MINUTE IT'S ON THE GAMECUBE TOO? I thought it was only on Sega Saturn.
it’s not even on the saturn
@@joechristo2 Well, the game was back in 1996

2024 and I still miss this game
Emulation is good when it's something very very rare, or very very old but Nintendo wants you to pay 5$ for it again...again
