Having used a 5Dmk3 from new in 2013 alongside a 1DSMK3 for studio work, I have just today bought a used 5Dmk4 in near mint condition with a 12 month warranty for £1200! I can’t wait to get out on a shoot this afternoon and try it out. My main reasons were the built in GPS to tag my landscape work, WiFi (both of which are on the 6D, an absolute bargain at about £400 now!) the touchscreen and focus tracking. The 30megapixel sensor on the 5Dmk4 is a bonus of course too. I decided not to switch to the RF mirrorless cameras as I have lots of L séries great EF lenses. My 5Dmk3 still takes amazing images so will now be my backup camera of course.
@@alcedo_kf Yes indeed, and it only costs about £120. I thought about buying an EOS R to replace my 5Dmk4 but the R only has one card slot (I shoot Raw and JPEG so need 2) and it doesnt have built-in GPS like the 5Dmk4. I will have to wait for the R5 to come down in price I guess.
I’ve been using the 5D3 since 2012 and the 5D4 since 2016, photography only. Also added a 5DS-R to the mix in 2018. When Canon announces the 5D4 is going out of production, I’ll buy a new one to use into my sunset years. But… once a high resolution R model is released (100 megapixel), I’ll finally move to mirrorless.
Amazing - who knows in a couple of years they may well be collectibles 😅 with Canon focusing on the R-mount and competing with other brands that 100mps is not probably not far off 🧐🧐
I have been dithering about upgrading my 5D M111 to the M1V. The Mirrorless is out of my price range. I was a bit taken with the comparisons of colours between the two in the video. Out of camera looked better from the M111.
I started photography with a new-old-stock 80D, and then a new-old-stock 6D Mk2. If I could afford another camera, it would probably be... a new-old-stock 5D Mk4!!! Keep up the great work. 👍🏻
I bought the 5DM3 shortly after it was released. At the time I had a couple of 7Ds and would sometimes work an event with one of wack. Noticeable difference between the two and eventually stopped using the 7D. A half dozen trips to Europe later and a mature workflow, I added another low shutter count 5DM3 to the bag. My original has around 160k shutter count and I wanted to get my hands on another while they were available. I shoot using both card slots, large for RAW and small for medium JPGs. I carry enough cards to hold over 8,000 RAW images and don’t normally bring a laptop but will upload some JPGs to my iPad for sharing on the spot and reviewing. I have been pleased with the images and really enjoy the camera. Now we enter 2023 travel season and I have a new tool in the “bag”. The newest version of Lightroom Classic has been a game changer. Noise is no longer a concern. You add this to a previous version that recovers the details in the once blown out sky, and you get some fantastic images. I did not start spotting RAW consistently until 2015 and am kicking myself. I will be a full frame EOS shooter until I can no longer raise the camera to my face.

Since half the professional digital images were taken on the 5D series ... it didn't suddenly become a bad camera. All 4 5D models are better than most amateurs are capable of.
I've used both for product photography back when I was working at a studio. They're both great cameras, especially for how cheap you can get them now 😃
Got a bargain 5div last year for 2200€ last year. Own 7 EF lenses. This will last a long time for me! Mirrorless is just too expensive, a hype that will separate rich people from the not so rich...
At the price, that the 5D Mk4 goes 2nd hand, you might actually buy an EOS R brand new. It's nearly identical in spec. And you can reduce the crop using a Metabones Speedbooster + using also avail of the cheaper 2nd hand EF lenses at the same time.
The price seems to have been pretty consistent for the last couple of years, which I think may be a supply/ manufacturing vs demand mismatch due to covid, and yes the EOS-R is such a great camera - love the 4K Clog on it despite the crop - I use the 16-35mm ef and adapter / 15-35mm RF lens with it and used that set up for a Long time before switching over to the R6 😁😎
@@KaiCreative I only have EF lenses. And with the Metabones Speedbooster, I can reduce the crop to approx 1.24 vs the 1.7 normally. For all 1080p video modes or for photography, I use the Canon EF-RF filter adapter. I have a R5C on order now, so my 5D Mk3 will more than likely entirely be retired. Either that, or I'll stick Magic Lantern on it and use it as a studio camera.
I have the 5D iii and shoot in RAW. I have always struggled with low light photography without flash usually low light indoors & church events. I was surprised to see the few differences between these two cameras for a photographer. My other choice of upgrade is the R5 but that’s a lot more money. I’d be grateful for some advise as I want a good upgrade from 5D iii for photography. Thanks
love your energy and presentation, man. stumbled on you... am now a subscriber. Own the 5D Mark 3. Bought when first came out. Have added a C70. Confused more than ever. I have been a 5d mk iii owner for 10 yrs now. I am a photographer and hardly ever use video. I have four L lenses. Was thinking about upgrading to the mk I’ve , but wait, now there are the r6 and r5 to consider. What to do??????????
The mark IV will be a step up from the iii, you will jump in and it will feel like an old friend. Upgrading to the R5 will feel like a massive leap ahead from the 5Dmarkiii, but I don’t think you will regret it - I’ve been using the EF glass of the R cameras with an adapter and love it. I’d request the seller to screenshot the number of actuations, the Canon EOS 5D Mark III shutter rated lifespan is 150000 actuations - so anything below 100K I’d say that would be a good price (note some people have shot way more and their 5Dmarkiii is still going strong 💪)
i got ahold of a mkiii today for the equivalent of $184USD -however, it has a very high shutter count and so the tradeoff against the lower price is that i am gambling as to how much life is left in it.
I want to get into birth photography, newborn photography, birthday shoots ... I am a super amateur as I've never owned a camera before... this will be a learning experience for me. One photographer told me not to start off with a mirrorless camera because I won't learn anything, yet many videos on youtube list a bunch of reasons why one should not get a DSLR. Either way, I just want to learn and succeed with a good camera. !
