I had the same problem with the board chipping out when i drilled the holes. I wonder if a different type of bit is needed. Otherwise, I would need to make the board thicker than the final thickness to allow for sanding or planning.

If I were to do it again I would do a layer or two of painters tape to help hold the grain down or cut a piece of wood the same size and clamp it to the top to help avoid tear out.

What type of router bit did you use to finish the card holder and what type of magnets did you use . Thanks

Hey Brian, I used a bottom cleaning bit. They come in various diameters. For the magnets they are just regular magnets from lowes but if you need stronger magnets use Amazon.

@@ryanwolf162 hey thanks for getting back to me. I’m not familiar with a bottom cleaning router bit. I’ve seen people use I think a flush trim bit with the bearing on the top but that doesn’t make any sense to me because I thought they were just for edges. Is it possible for you to send me a link to one or a picture. Routers scare the crap out of me do I want to make sure I’m using the proper type bit. Thanks

I google bottom cleaning router bits and found what I think is correct.

@@nitrousblast1 hey! Don’t let them scare you but always respect the tool! Watch some videos and just take a little bit off each pass. Practice on scrap material first. And correct flush trim bits are for matching the sides of something with a template or other identical piece. Best of luck on your project.
