The model of the AC-130 that has the big cannon, the 40mm cannon and gatling gun is known as the Spectre like you mentioned. There was one used in Vietnam that had just gatling guns and it was called Puff the Magic Dragon.

C 130/AC 130 just amazing planes. I used to sell parts for those planes. The sound they make while flying? Unmistakable.
I live in one of their flight paths. You know when it's flying over. I feel pride wen I see/hear this aircraft.
Nothing like it. We used to take our daughter down to the flight line as a baby. Her excitement was amazing. Only child I know that could sleep peacefully in our flight line quarters.😊

It was said during Vietnam with all the gatling guns puff would be able to put a round in every inch of an American football field in one pass.

I'm not feeling so confident about our nation's military power right now . We just lost Afghanistan . Mostly due to weak politicians , not the bravery and skill of our fighting men and women .
I agree. It's been a massive blow to all who have served there through absolutely no fault of their own
Believe you me there are many of us who feel the same way the pull out was not handled well. And now we've got troops going back because of the very situation that we're talking about.

On another note; take note American enemies, DONT POKE THE BEAR! It makes my blood boil that all the forces that went over to fight for those who couldn't fight for themselves, and now that our troops are going home,, those same people will be oppressed once again. However, the Taliban weren't laughing while allied forces were there. Bunch of cowards.

It kills me inside that as a nation , and this is just my humble opinion, ( it doesn't make it right or wrong) I don't remember ever feeling so divided. That's how the devil works. Divides us. Our Air Force let one these things loose on a Doctors Without Borders hospital in afghanistan in 2015....30 people were killed, some of them in intensive care and burned alive by tracers in their beds...along with 3 doctors...
There's an issue with that BOFORS 40mm, it is an aging weapon and simple repair parts are becoming harder to get, there is talk of eventually having to replace it with something more modern. Back in WW2 those BOFORS 40 Quads with it's sophisticated (for the day), integrated fire control system simply shot down aircraft.

There was a good-sized inventory of the Swedish Bofors up to and through Vietnam, if they haven’t been demilitarized. About the time of the Korean War, two 40mm were mounted in a cupola onto the M41 Walker Bulldog tank chassis. These continued in use through Vietnam as the M42, and usually were referred to as “Duster.” The Army had as many as it could collect and stored in Depots, so I’m sure the Air Force has collected whatever was left.

@@TheDonsChannel I have a good friend who is a retired admiral and used to be an instructor at Miramar (top gun). He's aways looking for a reason to fly. He would take u up just to prove to his wife that there is a reason for him to keep that jet he spends "too much of her money on"
The Afghanistan government asked our government to pull our troops out. We do not intervene in any other country without being asked (by the legitimate government) or attacked. Sad but true, Afghanistan is on their own till then.
