Gotta admit I'm genuinely surprised by the ear near-miss. Like Matt, I too heard many a story in my Army years about tangos hit with the .50 where it didn't even hit them and was enough to tear off limbs or at least rend flesh. And yet the ballistic skull didn't even tip over. Science continues to baffle And impress me.
To be fair, I don't think a human would be fine after something like that. It probably feels the same way as having a flashbang go off in your face, damaging soft tissue (in eyes, brain and ear) and possibly knocking you out.
@@Caryll_byrgenwerth-scholar Yeah, it's the soft tissue damage from the force of speed and the rotation of the bullet. A real person would have died from the near miss hitting the ear (it would still cause damage to the brain internally), but the physical damage was likely accurate for the most part.
If you go back far enough on the demo ranch channel Matt has a video where he shot his 50 bmg through the middle of a house of cards and it didn't even knock them over. All this near miss shit is completely false.
The chemistry between these three, they could EASILY start a show if they stick to content like this, funny, Hella entertaining, straight to the point, amd they have a certain humor that works so well
I've seen a few people get shot in various spots on the torso with a .50 cal and it's pretty much the same thing except guts and fleshy bits and bones go flying everywhere, while the shooter only sees a red mist floating in the air for a few seconds.
I am so glad that Ballistic survived the exploding .50 cal… If he was alone, he wouldn’t even be in this video… thank that he wasn’t alone that moment…

Scott always joking about his .50 Cal accident. Taking funny things from an almost tragedy. Keeping the head of high after the experience. You gained my respects, Scott :)
Impressive. I still remember the vid Matt did years back testing 50BMG against standing playing cards ... the bullet passing extremely close and none of the cards moved =) ... was a great vid.
7:23 I think what really changes things is bone. Bone is really strong because it spreads impacts throughout it's entire structure but if the impact becomes too much it breaks but if the force is large enough, like a 50. Cal bullet, then the entire force of the bullet would spread around the skull but again being way to much for the skull to handle the entire bone would shatter and explode when trying to divide the force.
Lol thank you I was looking for the comment this man said blood is the difference 😂 great video but idk how they didn’t say bone once just look what it does to the ground when he clips the ear lol now that hitting bone? Fahgetaboutitttttt
@@llq4ever309 I think the fluid also plays a huge part. When he shot the cheek a lot of the bone stayed in tact in much larger pieces. When you shoot and it goes through fluid, that's fluid needs to be moved, to create space for that bullet and since it's exposed to such extreme pressure it causes a much more violent result
It's part of it. You got the skull shattering from the POI, but you also have the cavitation of the tissue expanding outward from the pressure of the round passes through. With the skull already instantly catastrophically compromised, you get the explosive results that you see. Austin is on the right track, the more off centered is I guess you would say, slightly less explosive, due to an off centered cavitation

What happened?
@@Scoob505 .50 cal blew up on him.
@@Scoob505 He had a counterfeit round that was loaded to extremely high pressure (like 5x what the rifle is meant to handle) and it exploded and blew the rifle into shrapnel that shredded his throat and broke a bunch of his bones. He recovered pretty much fully and now has an awesome story he can tell. Look up "Kentucky Ballistics 50bmg explode" and you can see more info. He's made a few extensive videos on the occurrence, as well as replicated the accident remotely with a string and high speed camera footage.
Is this collab seemed forced. Not really organic and funny to me
@@thanosbustedinyourmum Just you, they are friends and have been friends for a while now. What is forced is their little science stick, but they are laughing and living life.
Man, these 3 play off each other so well. So much energy and enthusiasm just flying off the screen and into our faces. Great chemistry.

The ear part aged well
Impressive. I still remember the vid Matt did years back testing 50BMG against standing playing cards ... the bullet passing extremely close and none of the cards moved =) ... was a great vid.
Hey I remember that one!
Look into cranial seperation
It was the shock waves remember its travelling at like 2800 to 3000 ft per second that coming to a dead stop dead
I'm so glad Scott made it and maintained his sense of humor. These 3 are legends.
Seen this video like 50 times and still love it. More co-ops required
