Saw an interview with an Army sniper talking about his work in Iraq and specifically about the effectiveness of the M107. He said he and his spotter had set up on a rooftop covering a residential area known to be harboring insurgents. He told the story of a long night taking targets of opportunity until they started taking fire from another rooftop. The shooter was taking cover behind a block wall and popping out to harass the sniper team. The team was out of standard ball ammo for the .50 so he loaded up with the only ammo he had, the raufoss and they waited. Eventually the insurgent took a shot and ducked behind the block wall. The sniper aimed at where he guessed he would be crouching behind the wall and sent a raufoss round. He said the round made a nice clean hole in the front of the wall, but the other side of the patio 10 feet away was splashed with gore. When they eventually made their way over to confirm the kill, the body was gone, but the back of the block was just obliterated with a large area missing and blood spray everywhere. He figured the round had detonated inside the block and turned the brick and concrete into a huge shotgun shell and shredded the insurgent.

Let's see some 5.56 to .300PRC to .50cal out at 400 - 900 yds or something along those lines. Great video.
I have used your “spicy candy corn” rounds in the Army. I didn’t think they would work on the dummy at all. Apparently the spine or rib was enough. This was amazing!
I'm not in the military yet I slightly understand how their explosive rounds work compared to ours. War isn't fun, the explosives they use aren't Hollywood fireballs of make believe, they're extremely dangerous and have many different roles in the military, for example, an explosive incinerate round would work best for disabling artillery, explosive rounds aren't supposed to be fired at anyone that isn't inside some kind of bunker or a vehicle, it simple has to much power to be used as a conventional sniper, it's more of a multi purpose sniper with multipurpose rounds

This actually makes me proud to be a Norwegian lol. Raufoss has been producing these rounds, or similar ones ever since I first entered service in the early 90s. Back then, they went under the designation "MP" for Multi Purpose". They were made as a "do all" round, having explosive, incendiary and armor piercing capacity. They were really fun to shoot through the standard 50 BMG on a softmount from the M109s we operated. Good vid!!
I mean for the army? Sure? okay? But this shit is fucking violent beyond belief. I mean I love guns and shit but this is overboard for civilians. You can take out army grea with that... absolute beast bullet but the word "Raufoss" will haunt me now. Like youd need a mountain to be safe.
"Something about Kentucky and the .50cal. I dont know if its because of a lack of education or what" That shit had me busting up laughing. Poor Kentucky Ballistics.
It’s the same thing with HEAT rounds. If a tank fires it at a soft target it will go through and detonate on the other side. You need a certain level of “resistance” to give it time to function as designed.
My Uncle Bobby actually "No Bullshit" did that to my Aunt and 30 years later after he started a new family brought back cigarettes and thought it was hilarious, so did I cause I watched it happen when they met again.
Never really considered the spine being involved in gun shot wounds...but seeing your videos, the spine always gets destroyed with these center mass shots...devastating and gnarly for sure.
I liked Kentucky Ballistics 50 BMG video so much better. Not only did he do a great torture test on that single shot .50 buuuttttt,, does a great job showing fragmentation blowing up from a bad round. And that ballistics dummy was so real looking moved, bled and even talked like a real person. Even had thumbs. Lol jk. Been watching Garand thumb all day. You guy's are my new favorite YT channel. Great content and you guy's mix it up. Hope you guy's don't end.
side note, one of the most effective defenses against 50 cal and higher is helicopter fuel tanks. had a 50 punch through our chinooks fuel tanks and slow down enough that it punched through the skin of the bird and then was successfully stopped by the back plate on an army ranger sitting in the troop seat
If the bullet went through a whole ass fuel tank, several walls of steel and a back plate and still penetrate into a human, the bullet would be classified as a war crime
@@Izukachan Several walls of steel? the bird is mostly magnesium and the only armor is the BPS panels we install which are only like an inch or two thick
This makes sense. Those rounds are designed to penetrate armor, blow it into tiny pieces, and then send those along with the round's core into the unfortunate occupants of a vehicle. Think of those .50 as essentially creating a shotgun effect with the armor of a vehicle. It's designed to rip out and fragment it then send it into the people inside kind of like buckshot. And that's why it fucking rips the dummy apart. Those rounds aint made to hit people directly. Body armor or not. You shoot these at the sides of a vehicle or even at a wall behind which enemy troops are taking cover. You can kill everyone in a room with those rounds because of that. It was actually done in Irak and Afghanistan. If a bunch of insurgents were hunkered down inside a brick building and the unit had one of those.... One round through the wall and it shotgunned the brick pieces into everybody inside. Leaving a right fucking bloody mess of ripped limbs and chunks of flesh.
Thats the same way armored piercing anti tank rounds work. The round itself isn’t that dangerous, its the shrapnel it takes with it that you need to watch out for
Essentially my same thought process. The bulk of that round is dedicated to defeating that armor and throw out VERY ANGRY metal pellets everywhere like a shotgun...metal af

I’d like to see what would happen from longer ranges I’ve heard stories from a veteran of a sniper completely detaching arms and part of the chest with a .50 cal rifle
I remember watching a _Future Weapons_ episode on the Barrett where a sniper instructor for the (USMC?) proudly stated that it scored the longest confirmed sniper kill and also was confirmed to have split an enemy combatant in half with a single round. I imagine there was some insane tumbling going on and possibly the shot went in from the side to split a man in half.

The round exploded at the armour surface. The power of the blast actually severely slowed it down, hence the damage was not as huge as one would anticipate. I am sure that a 50 cal without explosive charge would do more damage if the dummy is protected with armor
@@damage6494 that's no excuse for pointing a firearm at a person and pulling the trigger. That act alone makes him just as guilty as everyone else involved.
Have a friend in vietnam who took a .50 bmg to his back, covering a retreat, it left his left arm hanging off by a bit of skin and ligament at the elbow. Ribs pulverized and was like bird shot into his lungs. Steel plate held. A VA doc decided that two months post evac that the amount of pain meds he was on was an addiction level and cut him off, pretty much forcing him on to H and street pills. He said the only reason he didn't off himself in the hospital was he was with several other guys who knew him or heard about it and was waiting until the charge nurse left the room and then they would hook up their pain pumps to his IV.
Yea that’s a awful story and shows how stupid our medical system is, the dude took a dam 50 bmg and survived by a miracle, it’s a legitimate reason to give him allllll the pain meds, he doesn’t have a random back pain, his body was almost blown apart.

Back then, they went under the designation "MP" for Multi Purpose". They were made as a "do all" round, having explosive, incendiary and armor piercing capacity. They were really fun to shoot through the standard 50 BMG on a softmount from the M109s we operated. Good vid!!

It’s the same thing with HEAT rounds. If a tank fires it at a soft target it will go through and detonate on the other side. You need a certain level of “resistance” to give it time to function as designed.

Iraq not Irak. 😅
