This is not even debatable. They speak in their language which is Tagalog, they are all Filipinos (some are just mix), they all live in the Philippines, and their music videos are purely Filipino conceptualize. So therefore, they're P-Pop and not Kpop! Just because they got inspired by the kpop genre or got manage by koreans doesn't mean they're Korean wannabe. It's called INSPIRATION and that's always happening in the Music industry. When an artist got inspired, they do music! That's it. Go to sleep and Save your time.

I think it's because the whole *letter*-Pop concept is centered around East Asians. Chinese, Japanese, and Korean people all share similar aesthetics regarding their physical traits, which is part of the reason why C-Pop and J-Pop are normalized and put on the same level as K-Pop (physical aesthetics/visuals being one of the main attractions in K, C, and J pop) The reason why P-Pop is so controversial in the first place is because Filipinos are Southeast Asians and don't share a lot of the physical traits as East Asians. Which, in turn leads to the idea that Filipinos are copying Koreans and other East Asians in terms of physical looks, mannerisms, fashion, etc. Filipinos are outsiders, in a sense. I'm not saying physical characteristics is the only reason, but rather one of the biggest reasons.

P-pop started with Manila Sound tbh, it's just the idol system that our entertainment industry is trying to implement. If we say p-pop groups just in general we have tons of that way before this Filipino idol groups debuted(which started with MNL48). Filipino's are not familiar with the concept of idols, we did not grow up seeing this kinds of group, so when we are introduced to this concept many people automatically assumed that it's a copy of k-pop when in fact k-pop is just Korea capitalizing with the JPOP sound and eventually leading to the modern kpop we hear today, on other hand Jpop is adapted from american pop, and pop in general it's just a genre, no one really owns it. So why are we preventing our entertainment industry to find its modern sound thru this groups?

    • @pokerface4848
      @pokerface4848 3 года назад +1

Yes its true.. generally p-pop are more inspired by british and american music. Thats why 70s-00s follow music trends from the US. 10s-20s music slowly get inspired as well slowly by korean music due to large fanbases here in the ph for korean idol groups.
Also the idol culture began from japan which began in the 90s, SM Ent. copied them and made their own version of the idol group. The j-pop and k-pop style of idols are vastly different.

If someone has an underlying hate when you pointed out that P-pop is "copying" K-pop (in which, itself, is not really wrong, all genres are "copies" and derivatives of other genres), it just means that you are jealous of other people with different nationalities doing that kind of style and being overly proud and protective with it. It is the same thing as the hip-hop. People really like to gatekeep a lot, let people breathe and do their own thing. These boys worked a lot and since they are the first Filipinos or the ones which got really popular who derive from this genre, they literally caught most the ignorance and stupidity of Filipino people about Filipino groups like this. BGYO and BINI safely entered the chat when this concept is now being accepted by Filipinos. Both Filipinos and Koreans, especially tons of Filipinos (yep, our own people), criticized this group and P-pop. That is why SB19 has a special place in my heart.

Remember we do have our own culture and artistic style. It is not a good excuse that Ph has no identity boundaries. We do have. I'll just reference our own indigenous music and art as some of the foundation for our modern culture and identity "supposedly."
I see what you did there. Appeal to empathy and ignorance. It saddens me. I don't care whether they are your tiny sweetie bias. I'll try to be objective (hopefully). After all, SB19 music is a product of globalization, and we still need to be careful because our indigenous culture and music are in danger to become extinct, yet people like you are some of the reason why they are becoming extinct. (Why? Neglect of our culture. You guys are still supporting and succumbing to foreign music and their influences.) Nevertheless, what I am worrying about is the loss of Filipino culture and identity in our music as these groups such as SB19 did; after all, they are only slowly adapting to the global standards of the entertainment market - fancy makeup, white skin, and foreign clothes. Thus, the korean entertainment industry and the ph industry as well are after only on one objective: profit. They (SB19 and other ph groups) don't care whether they will sacrifice some Filipino cultural identity to meet the market. Because, capitalism and globalization?

He said that no one actually (solely) owns a certain genre (like kpop) infact, Kpop was also influenced by western and jpop but maybe the reason why they are always perceived that they sounds like kpop is because atm kpop is famous in the world (mainstream), but, other countries are also using the same genre as them. Same with Seo Taiji and the Boys, one of the first artists of K-POP. So this is saying that, everyone is inspired or copying the best of other culture, etc. J-Pop is different IMO, they have their own bubble world in Japan.

I don't think ppop is copying kpop because lyricism skills between the two countries are very DIFFERENT from each other. The two countries and their people think differently with regards to their culture, society, and idealism. Filipino artists train differently from how koreans do. And the filipino people's societal maturity is very different from korean society. Ppop is not heavily promoted and budgeted but they are able to come up with quite decent production. I hope ppop would not do those hand gestures in their coreo especially if it doesn't make sense.

Example could be in the business world or academic world. Countries/businesses/individuals will try to adapt strategies that are proven effective and successful. So I personally think that the term "copying" is inappropriate. Though I give high credits for Korean entertainment for establishing a well-built system.

And some of the song writers ng Kpop are also Filipinos even the back-up dancers?! So can you also say it a pure Korean Pop? We are in the rise of the new era of P-pop idol groups! Let’s admit it! Itaas na po ng Ppop idol groups ngayon ang kalidad ng group performances at visual branding ng bawat isa. And we know one of the biggest influence and reason of this is adapting a training system while being handled not only by Korean Management but also by a Japanese Management. Yung training lang yung inadopt nila but the music itself from the lyrics to choreography was originally made by them(#Sb19). That's why it's called "Pinoy Pop" which is also accepted as part of OPM! Which means Original Pilipino Music. (Gawang pinoy at Pinoy yung kumanta!) Para lang naman yang machine or system eh! if you want to provide something better you have to use the same method or machinery. What i mean is just accept the similarities but don't forget to respect and notice the differences! We already know that all Ppop idols today undergone an intensive training before sila idebut same as not only by Kpop but also with western country. For example "Now United" their management also trained them iba nga lang yung execution and method of training. It just so happened na mas malaki lang talaga ang budget ng Kpop when it comes to MV and they have a huge fans and supporters! Yes, Kpop are popular now a days kaya yung ibang countries na gumagamit din ng same genre, system and method ay hindi nabibigyan ng pansin like for example "Japan". They are just both showing their talents to the world. Bakit kailangan ipilit na #SB19 is copying Kpop? Di na lang maging masaya sa success ng bawat isa? What most of the people do now a days are good in stating their own "opinions" better than "truth" and "facts"! Basta may masabi lang!!! Pag bumili ba ako ng coffee maker sa Canada but i used kapeng barako as my coffee I'm copying the coffee from Canada? Hindi naman diba? Yah, maybe there's always an influence and inspiration behind it coz all of us naman are influenced by the worldly things around us but again there's a big difference between "copying" and "adapting" the system and method just to create your own!!!

Filipino hiphop scene is copying hiphop from other countries etc. Music is music. It’s international. Before KPOP went viral around the world, pop in the philippines were already known. In my opinion about the “Filipino Identity”, we are just constantly adapting cultures because that’s what we’re made of. Our identity have been removed “not completely” but most of it that’s because of the colonization of different colonizers that led our land. And because of this we are adapting to different cultures that these colonizers have passed to us. Just like today, mostly the newer generation, we just saw something cool or different in the internet we will try to do the same thing as them because that’s what we are composed of, trying to do something new, adapt to it, and try to live it out. I mean this May be applicable to other countries but this is much more prevailing I think in our country, the Philippines. Again, this is just my opinion.

First of all we have these different approaches of music and all of that have its own source of inspiration to further enhance it. My god, ang issue lang naman dito kung bakit sinasabing kinokopya is.. maliban sa they are under a korean agency, they (SB19) underwent AUDITIONS, TRAINING, meron fanbase which is characterized by a highly manufactured kpop system. Ang tanong, hindi na ba talaga pwedeng magpa-audition, mag train ng talents kesyo kpop style yan hindi na original at hindi na Pinoy? Afterall its BUSINESS and in business you have to evolve or else mapag-iiwanan ka talaga. Hindi nga porket nagtraining ka ng matagal magiging succesful kana how much more kung ikahon ka pa.
Music is evolving naman talaga eh. Kumbaga you'll be influence talaga to what surrounds you. At wala naman masama don. Ang importante is yong PUSO talaga dapat di mawawala.
Tungkol naman doon sa pormahan ng SB19, tanong ko lang, ano ba dapat ang damit pinoy? Kailangan ba magbahag para tawaging pilipino yan? At about sa make up, hello hindi lang naman koreans ang nagmamake up. Make up exist including men even before kpop. At ginagamit na iyan ng buong entertainment industry dati pa.
For fanbase naman, syempre magaling SB19 marami talaga mahahatak nila..and they are very down to earth kahit sikat na sila. Hindi sila takot humarap sa camera kahit kitang kita flaws nila which is different sa kpop na dapat always talaga perfect. Kahit doon lang you can already see the BIG difference..
Regardless of all mentioned above, it all boils down lang naman kun hanggang kailan ka tatagal kumbaga. And speaking of SB19, nasa kanila na lahat.. Composer, choreographer, creative director etc.. Very talented sila individually and as a group no wonder they create magic. Actually, sila sila lang talaga gumagawa ng kanta at MV nila sa ngayon ha kasi they are given freedom na to do what they want although of course with the assistance of their staffs and some producer. Very hands-on kumbaga. Makikita mo yong artistry talaga.
And speaking of their songs most especially the latest MAPA & WHAT? makikita mo talaga sa lyrics ang pagkapilipino nila. At kung hindi mo pa narinig mga ito, makinig ka muna dahil hindi mo talaga maintindihan sinasabi ko kung hindi mismo ang iyong tainga ang nakarinig. And frankly speaking, hindi lang sila pang pop, kaya nila kahit anong genre which is an edge for them compared to other groups. Few years from now makikita mo din sinasabi ko. Hindi kasi sila yong tipo ng artist na pabalik balik ang concept.
In conclusion, UNFAIR lang talaga para sa sb19 lahat na natanggap nilang critism. They DESERVED RESPECT at least man lang kahit yon lang!

That is my question too. A lot of those making an issue are Filipinos themselves. Filipinos are the ones who really helped made groups like black pink and bts world famous so there are so many Filipino kpop. But another thing that it has become an issue or made an issue by people is group such as Sb19 is as good or better than many kpop groups. People cannot believe that they would be nominated in BBmA or trending or in the billboard charts as one or the first Filipino and southeast Asian. Then people listen to them and come to realize they dance as synchronized but sing better but also make music that is different and unique. So I guess it doesn’t become as big an issue until kpop fans think groups like sb19 are making noise that might take away from their kpop idols. It became actual an issue with the BBmA voting with many kpop Filipino fans having to make decisions who to vote.

At the end of the day, the best ones are the only artists who will have a worldwide popularity. SB19 will change the boyband music industry. Standard would be a self-made band, able to compose, produce, choreograph their own songs, perfectly sing it live, and sing together meaning harmonize, with a handheld mic. Watch how SB19 would change the pop genre. It’s going to be a really tough game for members who are not that great with their live vocals. But standards have been set. No turning back. SB19 or Bini is not P-Pop. It is Filipino KPop. It does not have the identity or soul of the Filipino whenever I watch it, no matter how fierce they wave the Philippine flag in their music videos. Unlike Kpop, even though it was inspired by other influences, Kpop managed to make it as their own and reflected their culture and identity. Filipino KPop copied not only the formula of Kpop but all the demeanor, fashion styles and dance accent distinctive and identifiable only to South Koreans. There has been no popular P-pop that is known globally or even locally because while the talent and visuals are there, the formula, marketing and the technical aspects behind it do not. Filipinos do not lack talent nor visuals, they lack the infrastracture to market it globally the way South Koreans has done best. Like Koreans, Filipinos have distinctively identifiable dance accents, demeanor (more animated and extroverted than the introverted expressionless demeanor of south koreans) and fashion styles. SB19 or Bini do not reflect this Filipino soul in their brand. So no, they like to market themselves as P-pop. When in reality theyre just Filipino Kpop.

Yes, they did got the idea of training and dancing from KPOP but they are still PPOP.

I think one of the reasons why the Kpop business really succeed is the collaborative work that many talented artists, producers, and choreographers (especially Black African-American musicians and producers) contribute to make that "kpop trademark" really stand out to general public. Which is why it is very effective and loved by so many. Now that it is known worldwide the P-pop is also adapting that kind of style and it's a good thing that we can all learn from each other, benefit from that, and share cultures together. Today Ppop is a resurgence and is reinvented. The term has been used since 1990s and early 2000s but it died down because we ( Filipinos) usually refer to our music as OPM rather than segregating it into it's sub genre, in my opinion it stemmed out because we are a multi-linggual race. We have both English and Tagalog songs so it's our way of segregating our music from the English speaking countries. Therefore OPM is popularized than referring to our music as it's sub-genre (Ppop, rock, rap...).
The segregation I mean is when we introduce our music, we don't introduce it as Ppop, Prock,... instead we introduce it as a whole, as OPM. Then we refer to it's genre much like western music, it's pop, rock, rap... But I think the first I heard of the term Ppop was when the Philippines was first aquainted with asian music culture. Like jrock and jpop from anime and such. Copying the term because it's an Asian thing, and we identify ourselves as Asians.
But the term did not last long because majority of people understand the music industry as
"Filipino music no matter the genre = OPM", although we developed the sub-genres and fans refer to it as the subgenre when engaging ultimately it falls in the category of OPM.
As the term Ppop is repopularize because of the domination of Kpop in the music scene, it comes with alot of changes to the genre like people are rediscovering our asian culture and norm in pop, how gg and bb is pop and not a band. Because in my opinion post jpop and kpop introduction, we usually follow the wests music standard more than the asian standard. Example of these is sexbomb, and the sexualization of our gg genre. Unlike our asian neighbors where gg is a genre of innocence and conservatism.
This is all my little theory and it's not perfect so help me compete it, if you have your respective opinions. 😊

I don't think there is one true form of music genre as music really is influenced by a mix of different cultures and even identities of the artists interpreting it. One song can be pop/rnb/soul or another song can be dance/techno/pop and that's fine. What's important is that, as a fan, you can relate to it and are inspired by it. 😊

We cannot say that sb19 is copying kpop because dont OWN it.
Stop saying that Ppop is copying Kpop...
They have their own language and culture. They are just the same ability which is they can do both sing and dance.

At first, Kpop was said to copy American Pop. Now people are saying that any other Asian Pop is copying Kpop.

Sila-sila lang gumagawa ng lyrics nila, choreography, producing their own music and even directing, of course with the help of others pero hands on talaga sila sa lahat ng nilalabas nila and they're always incorporating "pinoy" style in them. Hindi nga lang po sila nalilimit as "PPOP" lang kasi SB19 can do other genres din like ballad in which I can say na pinaka-preferred genre ng most of filos. Yes, SB19 can dance, rap, and sing at the same time like what other known groups did but SB19 didn't limit themselves as "PPOP Idols". They're much likely to be known as Filipino Artists na.

PH have really popular boy groups that debuted around 1985-1990s, we have Universal Motion Dancers, Manoeuvres, & Streetboys so the concept of PH boy groups is just always there. It's just that the new generation probably don't know them tho.

Other people are just close minded or don't know the history of kpop and ppop. Vpop, Mpop, Tpop, Ppop, Kpop, Jpop etc. has just the same root and that is being INSPIRED to other genre. They have unique characteristics/features so no one is copying each other. Like SB19 yes it have some similarities to kpop but they have unique characteristics too like having a unique lyrics that filipino can relate, of course they are filipino, and many more. So PLEASE bashers who are saying that other pop group are copying kpop, do a research first about kpop and other pop group before judging, in the end you are making yourself stupid.
