I love how he can still keep everything so clean while he looks like he's actually enjoying playing the song. I find a lot of blast beat drummers to look so robotic that they don't even look like they are enjoying what they are playing. I understand that they are playing super fast beats but at least show some feeling when the song breaks down.

On top of the meter changes and versatile and technical drumming, this guy has amazing sound quality when it comes to playing drums. When he hits his drums they aren't killed, the sound resonates perfectly.

@sebbimon Heel up, there's way too much motion around his thighs for it to be heel down-- if he were then it'd be pretty much all coming from the knee down. Pedals with no heel stop like the Axis longboards that he's using are terrible for heel down, also.
@ANGERINSIDE Yeah, TIm Yeung, George Kollias, Jon Karel, Krimh and I think Dirk Verbeuren use the swivel. Usually the heel will be up a bit if someone's pushing the pedal with basically their toes but that usually only works up to about 210-ish bpm.
Only way he's getting that fast of double bass is hitting it very lightly (cuz of the speed) and the engineer is compressing the piss out of it to make every hit, huge, or tiny the same level....
I find that indoor soccer shoes work well (especially if the material is meshy). Indoor soccer shoes are similar to the ones he is wearing. Running shoes are usually good too.

It plays different crashes because you aren't hearing his drumming from that video. He played along with the track and turned up the drums. Maybe there was something wrong with the mixing board. Maybe he didn't feel like hooking up all his drum mics and taking the original drums out of the mix and then doing it over again. He only does two different crashes in the whole clip. Who the fuck cares, he can obviously play the song, since he wrote the drum track.

Travis Orbin records his youtube videos (most of the time) in more than one take, but the audio/video footage is consistent... he ain't faking it. Also, he could've recorded the video using multiple cameras, and set them up so they wouldn't capture each other in the frame.... so I don't get what your point is

It helps you with the volume of the bass drum ;)

@GishEagle oh no, don't eq the drums. NEVER EQ THE DRUMS. it makes the playing fake. no one has ever eq'd drums before without making the playing fake

@RayWillJohnson yeah! i know that. but with EQ you can make a real bass drum sound like this and with a good tuning apropiate for the genre of course :)
