    It feels like another year, to me. 3.23 had some good stuff but was marred by the patch disintegrating after about 2-3 weeks. Cargo is still missing and doesn't feel close, with how the very limited evo tests have been; overall it feels like they've hit a bit of a brick wall with development pretty much the second 3.23 dropped. 4.0 is nowhere to be seen and we're throwing new 3.x patches in front of it again. Meshing tests have resumed but are running on 3.22 builds and felt less like a meaningful step forward and more like the networking/deployment teams spinning their wheels waiting on a viable cargo build. The progress tracker situation is a meme at this point, and it seems increasingly likely that 4.0 slips to next year for the 5th year running.
    It's definitely the most Star Citizen year yet. It doesn't feel like a 'watershed year,' and it feels like their confidence and swagger going into it was mostly unwarranted. Still living in the unfortunate reality that whatever targets they set for themselves they just cannot deliver. And then they blame us for the expectations they set, get pissy at us for asking where tf stuff is.

    Also have a feeling CitizenCon is gonna be a, "Check out this 45 minute video of what we want 1.0 to look like" and everyone will lose their sh*t and forget this is what CIG do EVERY CitizenCon and then completely fail to deliver. Well after the very cool Citcon trailer with the 30 minute spline, I was hoping to get most of the features this year, and I thought that by now Pyro would be a thing. But despite all the effort from CIG devs, it feels like we only got the fluff without the meat. Yes, water physics and cloud tech are nice, but where is the gameplay? Where are the actual improvements to the star map? The new UI is good, yes, but why has it all the same QT bugs, why is selecting stuff and zooming so clunky? I actually like the new interaction system, but why is it not everywhere? It feels like we have two overlapping systems right now, that don't play well together. I totally agree, overall progress is very dissapointing. The only teams that are actually delivering are the art and graphics teams.

    The main problem with the game at the moment is the split between sim/survival elements and arcade elements. Logistics, cargo, hygiene, travel times and so on are in depth and time consuming. Master Modes and FPS combat with killmarkers is taken straight out of popular console titles. The two things just don't gel at all in my opinion, and as someone who wants the game to lean more to the sim side I find the flight model offputting enough that I have barely played since 3.23 dropped. Same goes for FPS combat, I haven't died a single time to anything other than desync during the past two patches, it is just pure run & gun gameplay now.

    • @Billy-bc8pk
      @Billy-bc8pk 3 месяца назад

      Try doing an MRT with Master Modes in a light fighter.
      You can't.
      The pre-3.23 flight model was super arcadey, as a Gladius or Arrow could take down fleets of corvettes. Not anymore; not with Master Modes.

    • @pistonsrule82
      @pistonsrule82 3 месяца назад +1

      I very much agree with you man. The game needs to decide where it lands on the hardcore -> casual spectrum and then build out all of their mechanics around that decision.
      Having some aspects be fully hardcore while others are super arcadey at the moment makes the game feel amateurish and slapped together, while also reducing the cohesiveness of the world.

Skill ceiling was incredibly low, since evryone could just fly at top speeds, avoid fire, and every small craft (even an M50) could take down an 890J or Carrack solo. • @fwg1994
      @fwg1994 3 месяца назад +2

      Server meshing in tandem with spending more on servers is the answer. If they have less going on in a single server because they have more servers running concurrently and everything is distributed across servers it should help significantly. That and I'm pretty sure years ago they stated that they were avoiding doing too much fine tuning optimization to the netcode until server meshing was in as such a drastic change would undo a lot of that work, so they maybe have some extra performance they can squeeze out of the servers once they finally lock down the backend architecture.
      So can they? In theory yes, in practice we'll see. Eventually.

    • @wenerjy

      Server meshing should help. Right now AI performance is directly correlated with server fps. More servers = higher server fps = better AI performance.

    My take:
    I don’t like MM, but I think I could live with. It doesn’t seem like ships are unique, though. Calling MM a QOL change seems like they don’t understand what QOL means (how can making it more complicated better from a QOL POV?)
    The other changes to ship combat kind of suck, honestly. Multiple PiPs due to changes in weapon speed suck. If CIG wants that, it should be more apparent which PiP is which.
    Quantum markers suck. The star map is better, but you’re kind of forced to use it.
    The UI while flying is cluttered.
    Mobi glass change is good, but why is it blurry?
    I don’t like that my ship components are essentially trapped. Why make it physical without a way to move it?
    Worst change - the lag, the horrible, horrible lag. (Must say that with an Invader Zim voice, btw)

What did SaltyEMike say "looks good if you can play it"? I bought a new computer back in 2016 when I first got into Star Citizen and thinking we're nearly there. Obviously I'm going to have to buy a new one now if I want to play SC but a PC capable of running SC smoothly will cost several thousands of dollars. Enthusiasts will spend that, but out of the million odd account holders how many of us can really afford to spend that. Gosh SC looks pretty but it comes at a cost, literally. Only the most modern of PC's are needed to play it, and Chris Roberts has chosen looks over gameplay because looks draws in the customers. Although its academic because without them putting an end to wipes I'm not going to play, and even after all these years they're still wiping everything you've done. They use 'kiosks' (item banks) for inventory simply because they couldn't fix the 'open inventory' (virtual inventory) so now you just move some few items from the kiosk to the drawer and then have it available in local inventory and you put them on you (if i understand correctly, im not and evocati) reducing impact on the storage backend, it's in a way a white flag. Having said that if it works better and if they add a search and i can stack anything (can you stack armour or weapons or pyro tool now?!) later on im fine with it.
    All things considered there are priorities like server meshing which undoubtly is but i don't consider physicalized inventory a priority over like filling the beautiful worlds of even Stanton with 'life' and a 'soul'. Give me missions from random NPCs... Last time i was in Finn's Folly collecting some packages (then ofc placing the packages on invisible shelves of a distribution center didn't work so mission couldn't be finished... still don't know why they continue to force you put packages on shelves [even visible ones :)] which often DOES NOT WORK while lockers worked 100% for me and i could always finish these package mission) i wish some NPCs would ask me to do something for them like even a good transport mission where the NPC wants to go to Everus and i fly it on my ship! Give me city missions to give beautiful cities a meaning! Give me random stuff on planets, random creatures attacking me (not only, or almost, by choosing a fucking mission), plants to carve things from, food, water, let me cut rocks with the cutter (i would be happy even if the rocks would remain visually the same). Why can't we talk with NPCs (only basic stupid stuff from some NPCs) ? It would NOT hog the server because dialog is not really realtime, give NPCs a lore, give me a mission in Lorville to find someone and i ask NPCs if they have seen him/her.. FFS put the citizen in Star Citizen!... OK im dreaming, back to bed :(

    Still only a single star system after 13yr. Major disappointment, esp after the early roadmaps (3.3, 3.4, etc) and their efforts at building procedural tools seemed to indicate that the pace of production on planets/systems/landing-zones would increase. Currently, 10 star systems hardly feels achievable, much less the 50+ systems that many of us hoped and dreamed about. At this rate, I am guessing it’ll “release” with 5, and then add a couple every 2 years, like an expansion pack of other mmo’s. Not exactly the galaxy-spanning Freelancer-like experience.

  • @FrozenKnight21
    @FrozenKnight21 3 месяца назад

    Hmm, i'd ha e to say they get a grade of C at best.
    Its all fine and dandy that they are putting such cool features and ship in the game. But there are a few points which bother me.
    1) Why is development so slow? - I get it that the game has a lot in it but they have a rather large team. Sure i get it that graphics take a while yo code up, and that it can sometimes take a couple of weeks to debug code. But for the size of their team this feels way too slow. I'm wondering if the team has goten so that, the developers are now stepping on each others toes.
    2) Misleading information. - How is the ironclad going to help speed up development of the Kraken, why not make it the reverse. Devlop the Kracken first and use its development to speed up development of the Ironclad. I get it that some of the smaller ships can be used as training tools and are of high enough quality that they can be sole when they get to the final stage, with only minor tweaks. Im okay with that. But you can't excuse the ironclad that way. Maybe they shouodnjust stop concept sales until they catch up with existing backlog a bit.
    3) Buggy releases. - Seriously, they have shown that they have game testers. Are they even testing 1/4 of what they are releasing? I get that a few will slip though, but why are there so many bugs. Why are we still dealing with bugs which are years old.
    4) Confusing bug reporting/feature requests. - This is of high importance. Yet new players still are confused about it. How many ways are there to report a bug, heck i've been told to put feature requests on spectrum. Anyone have any clue where on spectrum?
    5) Listening/catering to the 1%. - This is a developer sin. And CIG is more than guilty of it at many levels. Oh there is a PVP ship which has a bug, takes them less than a week to fix. But there is a major bug with box missions, still there years later. A1, Salty, and a few others opinions should be treated as the exceptions until ehough data is gathered to prove that their gripes are truely community concerns. But their concerns are good data starting points.
    6) Mis-advertising. - This is true for many ships both pre and post MM. Probably the most recent examples are the new MKII hornets, and the San'tok.yai. Does anyone want to argue that the San'tok.yai stands a chance againt a hornet, any hornet? And the MKII's are suposed to be the superior/improved hornets, i get that the improvements done need to be huge, but they are suposed to be improvements. And don't get me wrong I'm not saying that this is how that the ships should always be the superior because advertising says they are. What im saying is that the ships should at least be capable of what they are advertized for.
    7) Getting upset at data miners for CIG's faults. - The title says everything. I don't think i need more detail here.
    But I would appreciate some insight into the thought processes of what they consider balanced. Seriously, what is the point of missles in the current state of the game? And did their balance pass really do anything?

    Tbh for me it feels like a repeat of the 3.17 to 3.18 cycle. 3.23 had almost no actual content, only qol stuff, the cargo part is delayed, pyro is extremely likely going to be delayed too and once it releases at the end of q1 next year, server meshing will blow up in their face, just like what happened with pes in 3.18. It's just business as usual.

  • @Tael71
    @Tael71 3 месяца назад

    Sadly CIGs performance is about what I expected. I event called that there would be a 3.24, maybe a 3.25 patch. And 4.0 and pyro wont make it out this year. And more will get stripped out to make artificial milestones so they can say “we delivered” even though it was a tenth of what they promised.

I use C54 and A03 and it never works for me, but even worse after the character tried to reload from backpack and failed (bullet count still zero) if i put more magazines on the body of the character to reload from there because it actually works it takes sometimes up to six or seven times trying to reload until it works... i've been a bit overly critical of development lately, hopefully not too much, but mostly because of the amount of stuff being released in rapid fire. the fear is that the iteration process is going to suffer, as it will be a case of put out something and move to the next thing.
    the inventory and interaction system did seem rushed. because everything is on "F" you end up getting weird conflicts. like when trying to use inner thought to throw out a can with anything else in sight, and the interaction wheel pops up on the other object. also the 2 main weapon limit (no hands allowed), and physical item looting appears to be altogether lost, because people were mashing "F" on bodies and picking up items instead of loot screen. there are substantially better solutions than removing features.
    imo, and have made posts about it, they should just shift anything relating to inventory to "i", and leave "F" for interaction and inner thought. maybe with right click interaction wheel. post was about Augmented Reality looting and Inventory "app" that could be toggled on and off, and could just be active as players moved. kind of like Fallout 76, except good, because there is actual plausible irl tech and lore to back it up and style it like a mobi app.

    Made all of my favorite ships effectively useless so why play?
    Nothing can dogfight the hornet and win against a decent pilot and the retaliator now has no torpedoes unless you purchase the ship from the store or buy the modules from the store for a ship you purchased in game.

Like a bright green or orange highlight for targets instead of the red would help me quite a bit. Also, a brightness and opacity slider for all the holograms would be amazing. I mean, my 30+ year old car has the ability to adjust the brightness of the dash, why can't my super futuristic spaceship. Also, on the fly opacity adjustments for things like mobiglass would make a huge difference in visibility when needed.

In a game where they formally confirmed they were still shooting for 100 star systems at launch in late 2017 they haven't even released the 2nd system in 2024 (nor arguably completed the first system as they keep fiddling with it). Meanwhile their ship backlog isn't getting better and they are nowhere near releasing modularity as they have ONE SHIP with modularity slipshodded in.

On the bad side though, I don't think they are where they planned to be as we hit the midway point in the calendar year and I'm not sure if they will be able to catch up given that we're heading into summer vacation season. Will we get to Pyro this year? Maybe; having it by October is becoming more and more unlikely though. If we get it I guess it will happen at the very end of the year with a kamikaze patch that technically puts it in but will need several .x patches in the new year to somewhat stabilize it. As for CitizenCon this October, all I'm expecting is a S42 release date announcement, nothing more.
