    Needed a good look at which fasteners to use for the underbody covers. Just bought a set. Thanks.

    may I ask? in the bentley publisher service manual, for the 1997 bmw e39 it uses 15w-40 engine oil while the 2000 e39 uses 5w-30/40 is that correct?

    My own touring is having some top end power issues with the exhaust cam angle sensor. I'm wondering if maybe changing my fuel filter (I have one on hand) could help? I've already changed the sensor and replaced the entire vanos unit so I'm trying to knock out just about everything else.

      Is it petrol or diesel and what litre?Since you have the fuel filter, you might as well replace it and go from there.

      @@slothgarage Petrol, so that’s why i’m not thinking it’ll affect it much. At this point i’ve done so much that I’m thinking it might’ve jumped timing.

    permission to ask. My BMW E39 M52 engine consumes 5 liters of fuel when it is idle for 1 hour, is that correct or is there a problem with the engine?

      Check your precat lambda sensors, are they working and connected, its too much, should be around 1,5l

    5 minutes is complete nonsense. It took me over an hour and I have a well equipped workshop with.a lift. Buy 6 new 13mm hose clamps, mine had non reusable clamps. Also some of the plastic clips will likely break, I need 2 new ones. Also recommend to replace the short rubber hoses. The filter in my car was also original with 06/2003 production date so 18 years old. Replaced with Mahle filter, this is OE without the BMW branding and is half the price.

    reusing the hoses is crap man. That's the most likey source of the leak.

      Good shout. We didn’t have them at the time of doing the filter but yes it’s a good idea to change them.

    how many kilometers to replace the petrol filter?

    • @slothgarage
      @slothgarage  10 месяцев назад +1

      Looking on the forums, people seem to suggest anywhere from 30-60k miles (so roughly 50-100km, but mine was original and the car had nearly 150k.
      Might be worth taking a look underneath and checking the date, but if you’ve owned the car a while, you might as well just replace it.

    Gosh those hoses are tricky to get off
