You know I got say thanks. Just got the “plus” and was having issues with my mic line. (Low volume) checked my software, then my mic and I couldn’t solve. As you were showing the back I noticed the button for 1/2 in. Prb solved.
Brilliant, thank you. Which one did you get? I’ve completely changed my setup since that video and now have a large digital desk but still kept the Big Knob as it’s just so easy to switch between everything. Also the built in talkback is really handy
@@PherotoneStudios The original studio version. Since I have an interface, there's no need for the newer makes. The older stuff is usually better anyhow.
I bought one of these new in 2006, and it’s still getting daily use. The issue I have seen with mine is the latching buttons (DAW on mine) has problems latching in the On position. Takes me about 15 tries to get it to stay latched. Other than that, it’s rock soild. I wish the new versions had this layout with an add on module for the interfaces if you need them.
It’s such a great unit! And I’ve done the same as you, looked at the newer units and don’t think they’re quite as good. Regarding the problem with the switch. I’m wondering if taking it apart and cleaning it up would solve it. I did a series on how to service a mixing desk but the same principal applies to all studio equipment. I’ve serviced microphones and even computer graphics cards and it usually solves issues
Pherotone Studios Yes it is a great little console. When I purchased ours, I would have the DAW computer in my bedroom, and run mic cables to my son’s bedroom on the other end of the house. The Talkback feature is what sold me. Good idea regarding the cleaning. I used your videos on cleaning the mixing desk. So far I haven’t been able to source a replacement switch, so I’ll give cleaning it a try. Thanks!
Fantastic! That talkback is great, I use that too even though my desk has a talkback option, I just find the big knob easier. You’d probably need to source a broken big knob and steal a switch from it. Service it and see if that helps. Worst case you could use a different input and not use the DAW one. Do you have things in all 4 inputs?
Thank you. Let me know if you have any questions. Since the video I’ve completely changed my setup to include a large digital desk and kept the big knob as it’s so easy and simple to use
So if I can’t yet afford an Apollo twin (not that I believe it’s Apollo or nothing, I just love it’s recording quality as I use them at school) this would be a good sub also as an audio interface right?
I have this same (older) model of the Mackie Big Knob Studio Command System. Have you had an issue with a lot of noise (hiss) with your unit? I have mine hooked to two Hafler DH-200 power amps and my studio monitors and there is an exhausting amount of hiss through my monitors. There is also a lot of hiss through my headphones. I wanted to see if you or others are having the same problem. Thank you. DW
Hey man one question so its possible to connect the big knob to my mixing desk for example i have my signatune soundcraft desk how would i go about connecting the big knob so i can change my monitors but still using the mixing desk for recording??
Ah that’s really easy. Connect the main output of your desk (or whatever output you use for the existing monitors) to one of the inputs on the big knob. Then you plug all your monitors into the big knob. I’d also recommend using the headphone outputs on the big knob rather than the desk as the big knob has built in talk back (unless you use your desk for talk back)
Please, who can explain? I bought this thing. But it will come in a week or two... So I want to know right now... I did right? What about some COLOURing the sound??? Is it aggressive changing in sound??? I bought this thing for mixing
Great vid dude, very honest, enjoyable to watch and extremely helpful. How bad is the midrange boost now that you have spent some time with it? Cant decide between this or the Presonus v2 for my rig. Need 3 speaker outs.
Thanks mate. Honestly the mid range boost isn’t bad at all. I’ve changed setup so don’t really need the big knob any more but still use it as it’s just so simple and easy for routing audio. Highly recommended
he could you help me out. So i have 2 krk rokit 5 speakers and i was wondering how can i connect that to my Big Knob i am also using a M-AUDIO Fast Track Pro Audio Interface i cant get any sound from the speakers
That’s odd. Can you get audio to play if you plug the output from the M-Audio straight into the speakers? The output from you interface should go into one of inputs in the big knob, then the button corresponding to that big knob should be pressed so it’s on. Then the speakers go in one of the outputs and that output button should be pressed on the big knob. Then just turn the big knob volume up

Excellent review, walkthrough, and set up. Just picked one up and this is the best video I found for the job.
Brilliant, thank you. Which one did you get?

I literally just picked this up last night. Thanks for my G.
A Big Knob? which one? I think they're brilliant
This was awesome and very informative. I received one of these and had no idea what I does.

Definitely. Analog to digital converters haven’t changed much for maybe ten years now. There isn’t much difference between them anymore

Hello is this compatible with Apollo twin solo?
It should be. Just plug the output from the Apollo into an input on the big knob
Great info !! Thanks !!
So the big knob are basically for mixing

I use it every single day. It’s a great piece of equipment. It does colour the sound slightly but that really doesn’t matter

It colours your outputs. I wouldn't mix with a big knob
True but it’s such a great setup. I’d far rather a big knob than a set of NS-10 speakers
Bruh i fucking thirsty or what sheesh!
I don’t understand?
