yes yes yes yes thank u bro just what I needed to know, I just got the same from a fellow producer for a price u would not believe, I have the same hardware and software, and was wondering how I was going to route everything, THANKS AGIN BRO, THIS VID WAS TRULY HELPFUL, HAVE AN AMAZING NEW YEAR.💯💯💯💯💯💯
Bro first off what a studio. Second, thank you this one was one the most helpful and informative videos about the Big Knob. They always had one at the Guitar Center by me but they don't really teach you about the products.
I totally totally agree. The only thing I wonder about is are these backed up with a backup power supply, because my synths have documentation (Korg) that expressly says you might lose serious data, like the keyboard might forget what it is! Yikes! In my studio, I use the similar radioinic switch to do the..lights. The down side is, I don't have the luxury of turning everything off all at once. Having said this, my studio is not this elaborate at all, but I do try to stay off the web. Thankyou for this decent viodeo. Big Knob Rules (the one you show)!
Thank you Brother Motown. I was pondering whether I should get that one after looking at the presonus V2 and studio channel system. The Mackie caught my eye because it has Mic Pre's built in and Monitor Choice Selector, Talkback feature and Input Sources. I like also the new one the Mackie Studio + because it has USB feature. I am a guitar player/recording artist. I'm thinking about hooking up a Mic to my guitar Amp speaker and going into the Mic Pre on the Mackie and recording. When I do rehearsals, my band mates can use the headphone and Cue mix from my Vocal Mic . You think this is a possibility ? Thanks Brother Motown
No problem my brother... The original big knob that I have has no mic pre or usb but the new big knobs do. If you plan on recording into recording software on a computer then I definitely recommend you get A NEW model. It has the mic pre that you need plus the USB connectivity
@@BigBrotherMotown I just saw the Studio+ is $329 and has 3 source inputs, usb, and the Studio Outs with gain like you have. Thanks Brother ! I'm Michael from White Plains, NY - Thanks brother Mo !
I'm trying to justify a purchase. I have a Roland VS1880 and a Tascam SD32 hard track recorders, but I also hook up to FL Studio and use the MPC 2/3 software. I have a Korg Triton, Ensoniq ASR Pro, MPC X and until I watched this video it did not dawn on me that I can just run my instruments through my Tascam Model 24 mixer to my MPC X.... I was just focused on running all my channels to my hard disk recorder.... I can just run those to my MPC X for sampling...so it is amazing what kind of light comes on when you watch RUclips videos. LOL I wanted to thank you for this video and also ask you a question with the equipment I have being so similar to your setup do you think I would benefit from purchasing a Mackie Big Knob or would I be alright with the Tascam Model 2400? Seriously wondering about this. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
@cedricjamesjr1 Yes, my brother! It's all about finding new ways to use our old equipment. That's how we get the most out of our investments. As far as the Big Knob is concerned, I originally bought it for the purpose of being able to run 2 sets of monitors and a sub. I'm not sure if you can do that with the tascam outputs, but if you can, you don't need the big knob. However, the original Big Knob is very versatile and gives a nice aesthetic to the studio... it can be found used for a fraction of its original price. Behringer also has a similar device selling for about 160 bucks! 👍
I just bought one. Wow you are using a multi-track recording machine? Back in 2015 I went from using a Korg D-3200 multi-track machine to buying a nice 💻 and got Cubase recording software. Let me tell you man I will never go back to a multi-track machine because of the extreme limitations. Going into the box (into a 💻) makes all those limitations go away. It really is like night & day. I use to say the same thing as you until I finally made the move.
My brother.... It's 2023 and I'm STILL using the D32XD. That wasn't simply a multitrack recorder back then it was THE DADDY of all multitrack recorders. I remember going to guitar center and the salesman immediately tried to talk me into buying an iMac with logic pro and an audio interface the total price was about 6 grand. I was able to get the Korg for HALF that price and I've never had a problem (other than replacing the hard drive at the end of it's life). It has plenty of DSP and none of the compatibility issues that often occur between computer operating systems and recording software. I may switch one day.... But today is not that day. Thanks for checking out the channel!
@@BigBrotherMotown Yeah man whatever works for you is what counts. Don't ever get computer info from anyone at guitar center. My computer is 8 years old. First off Don't buy Mac. I spent 1,800 on my i7 quad-core with 16 gigs of ram. It was top of the line when I bought it. I spent 400 on the full version of Cubase which was foolish when you can get the full version of Reaper for 60 dollars. I was lucky enough to aquire a 16 channel Phonic Summit Digital Console from my guitar player. A 1,700 dollar mixer which I use as my interface to record my drums because I use around 10 or 11 mics at once, all separate tracks. I also have a Focusrite 2i2 interface.
If you're talking about the actual physical DESK that my mixer is sitting on....I got it from guitar center almost 20 years ago. This particular desk was out of production many years ago but it was the perfect one for my needs. I need a large desk with just a few rack spaces and a speaker bridge. I wish they would bring it back
Are the 1/2 mic outputs of this card suitable for recording electric guitar with DAW VST amplifiers? I did not find a Hi-Z mode, and I do not like the tone, too much background noise and distortion
@@McdRecordsOfficial oh that...I used an outlet with a remote that my power strip for the desk was was connected to so I could use that to switch off everything with the push off a button. I have since switched to smart plugs for complete voice automation of my studio.... Check out my "Alexa enabled studio" video
The original Mackie big knob does not have a USB connection thus it cannot connect to a computer. The new big knobs however do have a USB connection but I am unaware if they are compatible with Big Sur or not
@@BigBrotherMotown Sorry to bug. I am looking at getting one since my recording has shrunk and working more 1 on 1 as opposed to whole bands so i was wondering are you doing tracking direct into the MPC (Vocals/Guitars etc). Was wanting to get down to 1 nice tube preamp, compressor and mic and be mobile.
@@klozher38 no... You're not bugging me brother it's all good. Currently I create my music in MPC and then I either import the stems or track it out into the Korg D32XD. Then I record vocals straight into the Korg. For me the Korg provides the best mixing environment as opposed to the MPC and it has a multitude of effects built in so I can have everything in one place without needing a computer. If you wanted to you could do EVERYTHING in the MPC because it's literally a DAW in a box. The only problem is, in standalone mode the MPC only has 8 audio tracks which wouldn't work for me as most of my productions use at least 12 to 16 vocal tracks.... HOWEVER if you use a computer and use the MPC in controller mode you can have unlimited audio tracks (based on the capabilities of your computer) It seems like you are trying to streamline your set up so you probably want to use the least amount of gear possible... If that's the case it depends on how many AUDIO tracks you need. Most hip hop artists rarely use more that 8 audio tracks so the MPC and a microphone would be all you need.... If you need more that 8 audio tracks your gonna need a computer as well.
I think you're referring to the nee version of the mackie big knob. This is the older version and it isn't an interface just a monitor controller. Unless you're asking in regards to if it colors the sound on the output?
Dude, I have had my Mackie Big Knob for about 5 years now and never used the studio outs. What a revelation. Superb. Thank you so much.
