Justin McVicar this is how it would have been if they never had problems in 2003. lars didnt sue napster, jason never left, and james didnt lose his voice.
@Michael Marceleno It was Metallica that sued Napster, not Lars. He was only the spokesman for the band but ended up taking all the hate by himself. The other 3 chickened up, wich was kind of smart. As James said in that infamous Playboy interview "better people hating him than me".
They should use the latest edition of this Song, it have been turned into a Ballad but it fitted the lyrics and the Vocal melody a lot more, and the Steel-String Acoustic Metal riffs is actually good.
8:37 James vocals are so special to this album. I’ve never seen or heard James just let it out. It’s because of that I like this album so much. It has so much emotion and anger.
The passion of Lars drumming is awesome. He's not the drummer he used to be be.. But boy, the passion and dedication are always 100%. He is and will always be the perfect drummer for Metallica.
Everything about this from Lars' drums, the rawness of that downtuned guitar and bass riff, Rob's signature blend of groove and attitude, James' somewhat blown-out vocals and even Kirk's backing vocals just rage so hard. This is musical fury at its purest.
Such a 2000s thing to do. Natural evolution of the '90s edgy camera work. Thank god they didn't do a 360 spin like in the live video for I Disappear at the Mtv awards.
Dude, Metallica was aiming for a “garage band” sound for St. Anger. They spent a shit ton of time mixing the album but they did not realize that this whole live version of the album IS the garage/raw sound they were looking for. This should have been the official mix. Pure Angerrrr!!!
I consider this the only "live" version of this song to be played in the original studio version and not the acoustic version. I actually love this song.
Not their best, but it has its moments. It had its problems also, most notably the mix and that horrible sounding snare. It was basically Metallica trying to find that raw aggression again after Load and Re-Load.
Yes I agree yet not for any of the typical reasons. It's not heavy like Melvins or Slayer yet heavy like Shostakovich or from a time and/or place when/where the shit was really hitting the fan. St. Anger is a fantastic record and easily their most honest musical offering. It wasn't made to satisfy me or anyone else or to make us happy. It's St. Fucking Anger.
its funny how people bash st angers drums yet has some of lars best ever drumming in his whole career. you cant even change my mind. this beats lars’ justice drumming imo. here hes not trying to be fast and hes in the pocket playing aggressively and more on beat compared to his quickness back in justice. both are great but the instruments are more tight here imo.
funny that you say that! because of all the metallica albums st anger is one of the most unique and hard ones to play on drums compared to the other albums thay have released. And to this day i still love listening to st anger because of that, this album is perfect for some serious muscle training haha!
@@blackdragons95 i feel like i lose weight drumming these songs haha! i tried playing the whole album back to back on drums, and i couldnt keep up by sweet amber
St Anger is one of my favourite albums for that very reason. Lars’ drumming is on-time, very creative and passionate… the whole album is well crafted and just brilliant.
Been listening to Metallica since I was 10 years old. Hearing “One” made me beg my parents for a guitar. This being said, St. Anger speaks to me like no other album does. I am the frantic invisible kid with an unnamed feeling of pure rage and anger. Thank you so much for making this album.
St. Anger as a whole is an important album for Metallica. It was a necessary ugliness for them to be reborn and come together as a band. That album perfectly represented what they were going through at that point in time. This album is so chaotic, ugly and raw. I love it. I just hate Purify lol

They should have downpicked everything (there is alternate picking in parts) just for fun. It's only about 212 bpm, which is Master of Puppets' tempo and they can downpick that without a problem.
@@speedytail I wouldn't say way harder, but I do agree that it is definitely more difficult, considering that there's a lot of downpicked chords here and you need more endurance.
I know this DVD came with the album, at least it did mine. But they should’ve just released this as THE album. This raw sound is so much better than the album sound
I agree. I listened to the album yesterday and I was iffy about it, but when I listened to this the entire album clicked for me. It’s got a great raw aggressive sound and the intensity of it combined with the lyrics give the perfect sound of someone’s inner demons being released. Good stuff.
I just like this album so much I wish a remaster would be done. these live in studio versions always make me realize these riffs are some of metallica’s best
