I was born in '99, my dad use to play this when I was 4 everyday on my car ride to School. I'm 22 now and Heavy metal is running through my veins because of St. Anger. Thanks Metallica
My preferred style of drumming of him honestly. Like, i appreciate his drumming in the 80s album and all,but I think he doesnt have much groove. In this, its entirely different. Its just a shame the snare sounds like ass inthe album version. Some bands can have that snare sound and make it work(helmet, for example).
St. Anger will go down in history as one of those masterpiece albums that was grossly misunderstood at release. Still have the whole album in my head 15+ years later. Nothing quite like it!
@@jordanbenson2980 I respect your opinion but musically DM shits on St Anger, when you consider tones and structure. I personally love St Anger but it just isn't better than DM or any of their other albums imo
This album is all about yelling down a mic, making a shit ton of noise and releasing your anger. They did it perfectly in that sense. There's no denying it sounds horrible because of the amount of dissonance and messiness, but if you're in a fucking shit mood, god damn does this album make you feel better.
This album had such a character to it. Especially if one sees the documentary. I can feel what the band was going through and the meaning of the lyrics. Plus the music has an anger to it, but at the same time a relief. Hard to explain.
Fuck the fucking haters! St.Anger fucking kicked ass and was totally fucking brutal! Metallica needed to test with other genres instead of staying the way they were, so after making this, I completely fell inlove with Metallica
@@MrMetalclay yeah man, nowdays lars just make simple ass beats, with a double bass in some "climax" parts, st anger has most of lars creative drumming (with "...and justice for all" surpassing it), mainly because the songs from st anger depend on the drums to be somewhat interesting.
This album still resonates with me. I was battling a lot in my life and this album felt like a soundtrack, especially this song. Lost a business I loved because of a business partner embezzling and not just him but my wife as well. Destroyed me at the time. I fought hard to get custody of my kids. Which I did. All while being destroyed business wise. And tore to shreds over it. I kept saying was shot me again, I ain't dead yet.
If you don't like St. Anger album thats okay. BUT just keep in mind, if you watch the movie Some Kind of Monster, they went into record this album with the intention of making it sound like a dirty, grity garage band, "except the band is Metallica." They just never expected all the drama and personal strife to occur in the process!!!
The drama and stuff happened during the recording, its what makes this albulm to be so real for people that is in some kind of situation close to that room there, and it's what's makes people like me feel them so close to our lives. It's a hell of an álbum, and it's ours. A Lifetime gratefull to Metallica and all of you who make it hapend!!!
In no way do I agree to what some people say about the snare on this album! I love it! Solidifies the entire emphasis on this album being one of lars' most technical and skillful successes on the drums. I would rank St. Anger at number two of their albums. I would go with ...And Justice for All as their best. But I do have to say I constantly tune my snare up and turn off the snares to achieve this sound when I am just messin around. Long live METALLICA!
Bullshit. There is nothing close to technical drumming on this album, dipshit. ...and Justice for all was his most technical if you could even say there is such a thing, which you can't since there is nothing technical about instruments.
I don't feel bad about the hate it got because it makes me enjoy the album all that much more. Why? Because unlike the brainwashed idjits that continue to give the band shit for NOT staying young, doing the same dumb shit they used to do and creating the same music on a repetitive basis so it would leave a bad aftertaste in everyone's mouths today, I believe in growth AND maturity. I mean, you can't be over 50 and still acting like a child while expecting to stay relevant in pop culture period.
People don’t realise how much of a banger this album is 21 years later… I literally listened to the entire album the other day and I was banging my head like crazy.
