  • FROMSOFTWARE's biggest and most ambitious game has finally released and is taking the gaming landscape by storm. Media outlets from every corner of the internet have been quick to give Elden Ring 10 out of 10s without hesitation. A lot of people have agreed with this sentiment. Finding it to be a worthy follow-up to the legacy the company has laid out in it's previous works. But after about 80 hours in the game, I can say for certain that this hype train has been burning more fuel than it has. So join me as I explain myself before the internet metaphorically crucifies (maybe literally) me✌.

In a time where studios dare releasing half finished games, with a retail cd game that only installs a 'download update' menu/button... games with a day1 30GB patch... games where 30% of the content got removed, in order to be sold as $19.99 dlcs... games that still use +10yo old engines... games released with thousands of glitches and bugs, with hundreds of level 0 bugs (freeze/reboot system/corrupts files/etc), that got reported thousands of times by the QA teams, but the studio still decided to release it 'as is'... games often built around a monetization scheme, instead of being built around fun, joy, free content, etc...
games with pre-orders available 12 or 18 months before release, with dlcs available to buy, or even season passes, for content absolutely nobody knows nothing about...games made by companies with +10 billions cash, +10'000 employees, who still manage to create truly poor experiences... and even much worse, games filled with lootboxes and microtransactions... and instead of the big websites and journalists being on the gamer's side, and give these mediocre games the 6/10 or the 5/10 they deserve, the big websites like polygon, ign, etc, will often give those games 9/10s...9.5/10s... or even 10s...
In a time almost every single game released by the big/super big studios is a huge stinky turd,
We, gamers, must embrace, praise, buy, and play games like Elden rings, which offers us incredible features, wonderful visuals, and tons, tons , tons of replayability .
I still find it incredible, the number of weapons with its unique special attacks... then, we have tons of friends to summon... then, there are all the ashes of War, that radically change the gameplay... then, there are the tons of incantations... tons of armors, outfits, etc etc...
We can start a game, with a particular spirit to summon, one particular weapon, one particular ash of war, and a few incantations. And the next ng+! We could choose a different spirit to summon, a different weapon, a different ash of war, a different incantation, etc, and the game would be 300% different. We could play ER 1000 times, and each time would be totally different from the previous game.
Add to that a gigantic world... tons of different weapons... tons of enemies... plenty of npcs... etc etc.... and all that with 0 microtransactions. EVERYTHING was put into the game.
Damn, a guy could play the entire game by only summing spirits... or by only using arrows... he could play the game by only throwing electric jars... he could play the entire game by making enemies asleep... or we could play the game by using a potion that makes enemies attack other enemies...
I mean, we can play and finish elden ring in 1 million different ways.
Of course, there is a glitch here, a bug there... caves, dungeons, could be done a bit better (wow, that amazing cave, in the snow side, with all those reflections of stones, red medusas.. truly impressive visuals and reflections), but at the end, we are criticizing 0.1% of the game, while 99.9% is just fantastic !
I had my ps5 a few months after launch, but most games I bought, I just couldn't finish them, like farcry 6... the new horizon ... nothing would keep me interested enough.
And then, elden ring is released. And I'm still in my first playthrough, with over 360 hours, and level 350.
I'm leveling up as many items as possible, +9 or +25 for most items, spirits.. still finding unbeaten bosses, from the beginning, when bosses were too hard, and I would simply skip them.
Never finished a souls game, because I didn't want to spend 1000 hours learning all the attacks, how to parry, dodge, etc, hundreds of enemies. I quickly get mad , if I get 1-hit killed, after a 10m long fight... frustration kicks in, controllers start hitting the walls, I start punching stuff, and even will bite my hands !
Bought bloodborne. Played at 10am. Died, died, died. At 5pm, I was selling it. A few years later, buy it 2nd hand. I decide to give it a go, the game looks so gorgeous. I study plenty of tutorials. I die, die, die. Uninstaller it, destroy the cd. A few years later, the game goes free on ps+. I watch some extra tutorials. Manage to beat a couple of bosses, but die, die, die. Uninstaller it again.
With elden ring, I can play the way I want. A boss is too hard ? Come back later. Enemies are too tough? Level up your character and weapons. Bosses still too hard ? Why not trying to summon a spirit ? That spirit doesn't work with that boss ? Try another one. Boss still too tough ? Upgrade your spirit. Use a faster weapon. Learn the enemy weaknesses, and use the right outfit, weapon, etc, imbue it with fire, poison, etc.
I can play ER the way I want, and I can finish the game. Soon, when I'm done finding all the important items, I will finally start a ng+. I will probably put another 100 or 200 hours.
When was the last time i could play a game for hundreds of hours ? Mass effect trilogy.... fallout4....
These games are very rare... and they deserve all our attention. Most games, today, must tick the boxes 'woke'... 'lgbtq'... 'powerful women'... 'black protagonists'.... 'gay sex/kiss'... etc etc, instead of ticking the boxes 'fun'... 'interesting'....'tons of content'.... and most games end up flopping, fortunately.
I wish a new elden ring game could be released this year.
At the end, if we take the few negative things in elden rings, and give it a 9.7, instead of a 10... well that really make any difference ?
So yes, for everything this game offers, content wise... graphics quality... number of summon spirits, armors, outfits, weapons, enemies.... the map size... the particle effects.... the ashes of War.... the sound tracks and sound effects... the tons of huge enemies... the interface.... the framerate... the replayability... the almost 0 bugs... the 0 monetization (look at Diablo 4 immorals...)... the thousands different ways to approach the game...the hundreds, if not thousands of hours of gameplay... etc etc etc... and compared to most Aaa released these last years, like fallout76...cyberpunk... mass effect Andromeda... and hundreds of gigantic turds,
Giving this game less than a 9, would be an absolute injustice !

135 hours for the first playthrough, which was MOSTLY a great experience (pretty much a 100% completion). Some of the late-game parts felt like they really dragged (both snow areas), but the finale was great for me. However... Starting a new game plus, I find myself immediately exhausted, and not really eager to play. It's just such a large undertaking -- mostly for the reasons of open world. Meanwhile, beating Bloodborne 8 times on one character felt much better, as it just flows so well and is easily digestable in comparison.

I've been saying this since day one that it just didn't have the replay value of all the other souls games and the game would be better with a smaller quality over quantity approach. Ive replayed every from game since demons over and over until I know every inch of the game and absolutely master it. I beat elden ring and I never want to play it again. The pvp is a joke even compared to ds3 so it doesn't even have that for me. I pray that they dont go open world again in their next title.

I’m just going to say it: Elden ring is my least favorite souls game. At first I thought it was the best because it was the first time in a true open world in a souls game and everyone was praising to no end. But I stopped playing halfway through. Small things just gnawed away at my experience. Like a lot of riding on my mount in empty spaces, spirit summons doing the fighting for me in every boss battle, not feeling any progression because everything is so open, just al lot of small things that added up. I still think that ER is better than most games out there though, but the previous souls games are just more enjoyable for me.

    • @atthewmayeohanekay9294
      @atthewmayeohanekay9294 2 года назад +12

Oh, god, FARMING. Yeah, IMO that was the WORST part of ER. You try to earn your runes like you could in previous titles and you end up ganked over and over by a boss, sometimes disguised as a normal enemy. Demigods and endgame bosses are the only ones that give you a decent number of runes, while others give you MAYBE a 1/4 of a level, that you will inevitably lose because beating 4 bosses in a row without dying twice in a row isn’t something you should expect of Miyazaki. And I SWEAR that freaking crow everyone is talking about has a higher rune value than most of them. After I got to Atlus, I earned at most 1 level per boss and everything else came from farming.
To compare it to previous titles, I just started a new Bloodborne character yesterday and I haven’t had to farm at all before Vicar Amelia (which is about as far as I can get in a day).

@Atthewmay Eohanekay @Chemagician i wouldnt say that only bad palyers do it i dont like gate keeping, grind of souls/runes always has been posible in souls games and arguably this game does it mutch better than other ones with spots that are dedicated to rune farming if somone want to over lvl to beat some content, but i dont realy see why somone would do this other than equiping hes fav weapon or spell bc all boss encounters can be so easy with summons/spirits and a little bit of thought and patience so imo complaying about farming is so invalid thing....
i dont understand why so mutch ppl are complaying about the game that give you so much stuff to work with to complete it. You never had to farm anything if somone say that beating bot solo witchout summons is only valid thats hes problem let anyone play how thay want.

@@shunami8571 I agree as I never felt I needed to farm for runes at all, and I think it’s because some players just aren’t interested in exploration. They want to go straight from story boss to story boss and ignore the sheer amount of things there is to do in limgrave alone

    • @Kamishi845
      @Kamishi845 Год назад

I agree. I was level 170 on my first playthrough because I did all side content and I didn't really farm much. On my second playthrough where I skipped more side content I'm 140 and only got the Haligtree left before I complete Maliketh and the other bosses until the end. So I'll probably be 150 when I'm finished. I did farm on this character but most of it went to buy smithing stones because it's a very expensive build with several weapons being maxed out. Also to note, on my first playthrough I used both spirit ashes and summons when available, but on this playthrough only boss where I used summons was during the Radahn fight because I believe it's just how it's intended to play out.
Bottom line, I didn't try very hard to farm for levels and I'm roughly where you want to be relative to content. I did end up doing a fair number of side content but far from everything. If I skipped more side content maybe I'd be 10-15 levels lower, but it wouldn't make that big of a difference tbh. The biggest damage in NG comes from upgrading your weapon and building properly in general.

But they aren’t optional really. Unless you’re one of these people that do zero hit runs you won’t be able to do the “main route” without doing the “optional content” because you won’t be able to get enough levels without grinding for hours. Hell even the “optional content” doesn’t even give that many runes on average so you just have to do more and more. But then you run into the issue that you might get over leveled and trivialize the experience but how would you know till it has happened because they don’t share that information with players.
It’s almost like they designed it to be a slog to keep you playing more/“engaging” instead of a well tuned experience that can be main routed to perfection like all of DS and have optional content if you want to do more or learn more about the lore.

The game started out meh for me, I didn't really know how to get stronger and all the caves/catacombs were not that interesting. There were a bunch of awesome secrets to discover but I always felt way underprepared for everything since I never found a second weapon for like 10 hours. Then once entering Stormveil it was an incredible game all the way through Lyandell. After that it went way downhill. The bosses near the end of the game have so much potential, but because of one-shot moves they become tedious and annoying. They are way to fast for the only defensive option to be rolling. You also need to wait for 20 hit combos and can't do anything in the mean time. There's just too much combat in general to justify this being an open world, if there were other activities as well that would be more enjoyable for me. The tight, well designed worlds of the earlier fromsoft games make more sense for this style of game, where the whole focus is a hostile world and difficult combat encounters.

You will only enjoy the game if you're willing to give it the time. The maps got really easy to read topography and the merchants provide useful notes that helped me a lot. Plus after figuring out i could get smithing stones in the tunnels right at the gatefront side of the lake and did my first catacomb it became evident how to level up. Maybe our experiences differed somehow but i found. SO many weapons i had to spend like 30 mins sorting my inventory lol.

Not avoiding NG+ if you beat the final boss again is not the greatest detriment. Since it is one of their more linear games you will most likely have done what you wanted to on that run by that point. Also it is pretty glaringly obvious what is the last boss so I think it would be reasonable to not do it if you didn’t want to end the game like…most games do when you beat the final boss.

I completely agree with the dungeon thing. Im on my 3th playthrough and have 300 hours on eldan ring and the caves and the small dungeons are such sleepers and just annoying to get through. They have the most annoying and same enemy types that run after you around every corner, but the scale of the caves never change either. I think back to Skyrim that came out in 2012 and they also had repetitve dungeons, but some of the caves were just massive. You would enter a small cave and then discover a bigger one with huge scale and it would suprise the player. It gave the player a sense of want to explore these small caves to see if you can find some big hidden one. I remember so many instences where I would walk in to a basic dungeon in Skyrim, but as I went down it became bigger and bigger and started straying away from that basic dungoen type and I would feel so immersived with this advanture i had created for myself. Eldan ring doesnt do that, every cave functions the same. There are 5-6 different cave types and just by looking at the interior of the cave you can see what your about to do for the next 10mins. It kinda destroys any want to reply the game for a lot of people. Eldan ring also likes to show you a lot of the later content far in the distent by creating these massive sceneries that subtly tell you where to go, but the underground caves and dungones would of been an amazing change in the way you presive the world by showing you nothing and slowly pulling you down into these complex cave systems. Their were also way to many of those caves meaning most people would miss most of them and do them at a much higher level creating even less of a challenge and fun. I hoenslty wish they would scrap like 50% of the caves and dungons and foucs on quality over quantity for these small dungons and caves to make them more unique and have actual cool boss fights and not just Crucible knight number 7.

@@kinin4400 I just finished the game near 100% no summons or Co-Op, melee only. I'm a souls veteran.
Spent about 135 hours playing, and by the 80hour mark I was feeling huge open world fatigue, largely due to what you're talking about, copy and paste dungeons: the mines, caves, and those damn crypts! As soon as I'd walk into one I'd more or less know the layout and goal, same enemies and same objectives, with most rewards not pertaining to my preferred build. That really drained my soul ngl.
I think that a large part of it is that this game represents itself as a "for souls veterans who like to 100%" but the actual content is such that I could have had a better experience only doing some of those side areas (but that's soooo not in my blood, I like to do ALL the things I see in a world).

This is one of my favorite games, and I've been a fan of this series since Demon's Souls. It is NOT perfect XD Not even close. There's performance issues, there's balance issues, there's too much copy and paste going on, there's far too much of a dependence on gimmicks to provide challenge and while a lot of this can probably get tuned up with patches, I really think that this game struggles to have an identity of its own. It's way too much of the same stuff we've been getting for it to stand out a lot. Giving me a jump button and a horse isn't enough to make this not another Souls game, and while I appreciate the familiarity I would have welcomed something a little more different. I hope that since they've come close to perfecting their combat formula and have proven the concept of making this work in an open-world that the next thing will push them further from their comfort zone than Elden Ring did. The fact that I could give you a general plot synopsis for this game and you wouldn't even know which game int he franchise I was talking about says it all.

I think for what it wanted to be, it did it extremely well and I understand why people like it. Sekiro is a game I personally do not like and have no interest in beyond the handful of hours I invested in it.
Also, I was very detailed about where I felt Elden Ring fell short and how I wish From Software had been a little more ambitious in parts of it. I think saying that I simply "want something less souls-like" is a pretty reductive take on what I was presenting in my comment. It would be better to explain WHY my points don't work or would have somehow negatively impacted the game in some way would have been a better.
As for Open World games being boring, there are several in my experience that are amazing... and they're better at being open world games that Elden Ring was. I suggest things from older Elder Scrolls titles and even Breath of the Wild (I have to admit, despite my resistance to that game initially) did it really really well. @@Gakusangi imo elden ring is a substantially better open world game than both botw and skyrim combined, especially when comparing exploration, level and world design. elden ring does fall short in some aspects, but overall its triumphs speak for themselves and its still easily the best fromsoft game by a gigantic margin, atleast in my experience, i started with sekiro then elden ring and basically played the other games backwards, the soulsborne games felt like utter downgrades in everyway but music, while sekiro is my 2nd fav fromsoft game. soulsborne felt like just walking down 40 hours of interconnected corridors, while sekiro has actual elevation and well...elden rings level design is on a league of its own. stormveil and capital alone are more intricate and complicated than the first few areas of ds1 and bb combined. the jumping added an entire dimension to traverse and frankly the fact that you guys are dismissing the most handcrafted open world game up to this point says it all.
i think youre just bored with soulsborne in general. ERs open world and horse are the most innovative theyve been since demons souls, it isnt just a new coat of paint and a 2-in-1 weapon gimmick like a certain other game(bloodborne*cough*!!), in comparison, it is lightyears ahead of them in formula change, maybe youre talking about the medieval atmosphere? its the best the series has been in atmopshere too so im fine with that, ERs art design and variety is also on another legue. you 2 are underestimating the nightmare task of translating the souls formula into an open world format, and it already shook the industry almost as much as ds1 did and its only been out a year.
as much as i love botw, its open world is basically just a series of shrines, puzzles, 5 enemy types and a crapton of climbing mostly just to find more shrines and gather weapons that break in 5 mins, its a physics sand box pretty much, its nowhere near ER on level design especially, as well as having the most bog standard environment types ive seen in games, while elder scrolls...well that has its own tidal wave of flaws but i digress, i still remember firing up oblivion over 15 years ago, its still one of my favorite games of all time, but on a pure design level, ER has it beat by several magnitudes.
now if i had to critique ER, i would say it has too many "shrines" if you will, with 50 freakin side dungeons, but frankly they still embarrass bbs chalices or ds1s izalith, so even ERs stank isnt as stinky as those 2 when they fart. most ppl misunderstand the half true critique that ER copy pastes too much enemies and bosses, in truth ER embarrasses the older games in those regards, it has 150 non-recycled enemies and over 65 bosses, no ERs issue were the overabundance of those side dungeons and blue boss rings you find in the open world, they ruined the introduction of so many late game enemies, they really shouldve cut the side dungeons by half, kinda like how fromsoft shouldve completely cut the chalices from bb.

I don't think it undermines your original victory, but demonstrates just how far you've come since you originally fought that boss.

It's a thematic device to show that your character has become so strong that previous challenging enemies are now the norm. They do this in literally every game. It's not insulting, it's inspiring. Couldn't agree more. It really bothers me that FromSoft is completely immune from criticism. If you say anything bad about the game that is well and completely valid, people just tell you to git gud and don't elaborate further. No other gaming company gets that luxury. FromSoft is awesome, and they are absolutely one of the most consistent devs out there. But they're far from perfect. This game is an achievement, but it has real issues that need to be talked about and I'm glad yourself and other RUclipsrs are calling the game out for this.

If they wanna repeat big bosses, at least make it creative and in line with the lore. And they actually did it, once. Like how Milicent actually have waterfowl move, so when we came across Malenia, we are like “so this is Milicent’s mother!” and understand that she get that moves from Malenia. There’s no reason to put spirit Godfrey boss or even Margit/Morgot multiple times.

I dont know why the godskin duo bosses get recycled though. Or how they respawn in the fight. Most dragons are just people who were cursed(or punished i cant remember) to turn into dragons. Then you see it again later on in the game, and you're able to apply your knowledge to beat it easier. Then it shows up again, and you've gotten so good at fighting it, it doesn't warrant being a boss again. It's in fact a great way to show the player's progress.

The one reason I think it gets 10/10 from reviews is because it's a game for playing as a game that doesn't have all the annoying features that other games have acquired over the years. Started over rather than finding a way to win, and is now complaining the game is too big.... Sorry your 60 bucks got you way more value than the usual terrible triple a releases. Also genius "the beast eye quivers" shows up EVERYWHERE there is deathroot. So if thats what your looking for and that doesnt pop then your in the wrong spot. Perfect example of someone not understanding the game and complaining about it. Also since your crying its too big and you cant finish.... The godskin duo is literally two major bosses (three if you count gideon but hes cake) before the last boss. And the boss right before the last boss is literally right outside the last bossroom. So it was so big you literally almost finished if you hadnt given up....

I killed her twice with my Str/Dex/Faith build. Solo her first phase then summon a mimic tear for the second
I'd argue that it's not a cheese because in my case my mimic tear can't solo her and from a lore standpoint Malenia caused a biological nuclear fallout the last time she used her full power so I'd say using a clone of yourself to break her aggro isn't anywhere near as dishonorable as exploding rot
I practiced on her with Guts Greatsword before killing her with my main weapon
The method with Str weapons is to do massive damage in short amounts of time to break Malenia's stance
Using Lions Claw with the Alexander Shard, Godfreys talisman, the charged attack talisman, charged attack physick and stance breaking physick will do the trick
Make sure to charge R2 immediately after Lions Claw for maximum effect but be advised she might Waterfowl if you knock her down and punish her too many times in a row

@@Kn1ghtborne nah man i dont mind at all, i enjoy talking about it. i would agree that its not a cheese as well as its in the game and it isnt exploiting it in any way, its overpowered yes but i dont think calling it a cheese is fair. i almost killed her a few times with my main strengh weapon (greataxe) but it does just feel like these games are straying away from heavy methodical play with each new game and i would honestly argue that its starting to not work properly anymore.
i think that since bloodborne these games are becoming too fast and in the dark souls side of the series it doesnt work well.... dark souls 3 just about works well but the speed of the gameplay is really on its limit, bloodborne worked because of the rally mechanic and sekiro works because of the deflect mechanic but elden ring (basically dark souls 4 to be honest) just feels like the gameplay (mainly bosses) has just gotten too fast for the gameplay for a few builds and its a shame.
mind you the open world doesnt help, i dont care how many people are praising it... its really a step down as the game just cant be balanced properly and the last third of the game really shows that the open world doesnt work gameplay wise. it was an interesting concept but i hope they go back to the more semi- linear level designs, the open world just makes it too complicated to cater for all builds properly and you can easily overlevel by accident as you really are not sure where you should be in the game for your level.
i enjoyed elden ring but the people who are calling this game a 10/10 must be on meth because it just..... isnt. way too many repeat assets, the map is simply too big, you could delete half of the bosses and a quater of the map and nothing substantial would be lost and thats a real shame. i wont be replaying this game as i do other souls games now and again, unfortunately like dark souls 2 it will be skipped by me. have all achievements in it and im done.

I think the reason its gettings 10's is because for years souls games have been niche and for a smaller audience. Not just with the difficultly and story you have to put effort into learning, but because its been so "dark". Horror, artistically creepy and scary, gothic, appealing to a more unique and alternative audience. Part of it anyway, of course they always appealed to gamers who love a challenge. But elde. Ring brought something more mainstream, more familiar to average gamers, a more typical looking open world. Daylight in a sense. The first time i saw it i didn't even know it was a souls game. I saw an open world rpg, with grass and trees and streams, a guy in armor with a sword, and the name elden ring. I thought it was a new lotr game. I think that brought into the main mainstream and those simple changes opened the minds of people who thought the witcher and assasins creed were the best rpgs. Reviewers, i mean. At first glance it looks like a more mainstream formula rpg. And i think that got them to actually try enjoying a souls game without complaining about the fact that its different than the norm.

Coming from the perspective of someone who has never played a souls game, I can appreciate your perspective on most points and fervently agree on the camera issue. The one thing I can say is it would be really weird for them to make so many unique enemies to cover the entire map with them, and figuring out so many unique move sets would cause most people to just give up and brute force everything. It will be interesting to see how many players actually platinum the game compared to previous FromSoftware games. If you go in and play the entire game without guides, it may be more likely that the average person does not see all the iterations of every boss, because they will likely see less than 50% of the side content their first time through.

I agree with a lot of this. I feel like the world designs of the DS trilogy/BB kind of fit this style of game better. Once the wow factor of how big the open world is wears off, it loses a lot of its luster. Most of the mini dungeons aren't that great. Dual bosses that are just two of the same or similar enemies slapped together. Reused bosses like falling star beast taken from the context they seemed designed for, fighting outside with Torrent's speed, and thrust into a smaller indoor boss arena.
ER is a great game, but the choice to go massive open world has consequences that IMO hold the game back. The legacy dungeons are by far, IMO, the best part of the game while the open world kind of drags things down.

Now with how big the world is and having 150 + bosses idk how anyone can really expect them to make everyone unique . Maybe 40-50 unique ones and then Reused . So I viewed the open world caves as bloodborn CD’s and the legacy dungeons as what dark souls naturally is .
In conclusion, I think it’s so smart that they made most of the games content “optional” bcs then those reused bosses critic would be valid to lower the score in my opinion . You never knew what you were getting.
Elden ring has ONE thing in its open world…shit to kill. That’s all you do, kill stuff. Found a cool cave? Nice, kill everything in it. Found a nice vista spot? Awesome, kill whatever jumps out from behind you. Found a secret tunnel with an NPC? Dope, but they’re gonna attack you so kill ‘em. There is no variety. How does that qualify as “exploration” when your not gonna find anything besides the same boss you’ve seen and killed 10x?

Cause for the world it just makes sense imo, if i left stormveil and was immediately ontop of raya lucaria i might not feel immersed, atleast not as much as i am in this grand world. But that's just my opinion lmao (Also marget reappearing is a story thing blah blah lore stuff)

I think the open world in elden ring actually yields a bigger issue that you didn't touch on. There are times where you will go exploring for a while away from the main questline and end up overleveling to the point that when you return to the main path you dumpster the next boss. It completely takes away from the impact of the boss fight. I wish the game would scale things to your level rather than allow you to become God and smite enemies. I also didn't understand the awe of an open world from software game, the previous entries were essentially fauxpen world games. They added a crafting system and large expanses between checkpoints. Overall I agree that the game has faults but in the day and age where deathloop gets 10/10 from IGN... anything less would be insulting to Elden Ring. I think the fact that this game is receiving such scores speaks more to the need for a revision of the system. Nowadays if a game gets lower than a 70, it's probably garbage. That's ridiculous. Game scores seem to continually inflate year after year.

It's a branching issue from being able to go anywhere anytime you want, right? Like I mentioned, you had this freedom in the previous games with the going and fighting what bosses you want to in the early game. But you could also choose to go and pick up late game items and use them in earlier areas if you wanted. And it's an RPG, so of course grinding is always a possibility. But it seems like it's waaaaay easier to do in Elden Ring. I've seen people one-shotting Godrick with that big laser spell that intelligence builds can get. It almost feels like you're encouraged to break this game moreso than any of the other games, which is a really strange way to design a world. And if you put level scaling in a souls game the community would throw a tantrum until it's removed, lol.
And you are so right about there needing to be change. Gaming outlet reviews honestly seem like they're scared to be 100% up front with how they feel about a game. Or, in the case of this game, they only get to play through a quarter of the game before the embargo is lifted and the review has to be out. Therefore they make an educated guess on what they think the rest of the game would be. It's messed up🤷🏻‍♂️.

So don't ever level areas then. I kept my weapon under +2 for like 50 hours and never farmed runes for levels. Also fully explored areas before moving on. I saw some of this when going back to things I missed but it's not that bad unless you purposely pushed your levels up

One site giving Deathloop a 10/10 is different than every single site and content creator giving ER a 10/10. You conveniently left out Deathloop's overall reception, which is mixed.
One person giving a game a 10/10 is a perfectly acceptable expression of their opinion. When a game gets absolutely nothing but 10/10s, and you're aware of how the Souls community acts, it seems less like genuine opinions and more of a way to cover their ass from getting doxxed and harassed by a bunch of angry manchildren

Theres also the fact poise is ruined and enemies have input reading. So, you end up frequently just trading damage as the AI reacts to your button inputs before presenting the results of your input and the AI’s reaction to those inputs.

You are exactly right. But the Dark Souls series has usually been pretty good about it's content being consistently fresh. The dungeons and bosses are the bread and butter of the experience. And overcoming a difficult boss just to find them again somewhere else does nothing but cheapen the initial victory for me.

This may be a hot take, but I think the re-birth mechanic may be what's killing replayability for a lot of people. when I finished bloodborne with a strength build for the first time, I immediately went "wow that was awesome, I wonder how different the game feels as a dex build or an arcane build" and immediately started a new game to try them out. But in elden ring, why would you start a whole new game when you can just re-birth, and try out that faith build you've been thinking about? You've already done all the level, item, and location grinding. And those vast stretches of scenery were enjoyable the first time through, but most people will just run past them mindlessly on follow up playthroughs. Just a thought I've had for a while.

By playing Elden Ring i really dont feel the need to go back to any past medieval souls whatsoever even Demon's wich was my favorite for a long time.
(200+ hrs) and im still discovering new quests and zones, going totally blind, no Internet or walkthroughs at all.
Bloodborne is still #1 for me, but damn
    Elden Ring got pretty close.

It doesn't read certain items I have in my bag even though I have them. And Don't get me started on the clipping. Many 10 out of 10 games DO have newly emerging technologies and designs that push the medium forward but I blatantly disagree with the idea that 10 out of 10s are reserved for those games alone. When you said “aren’t 10s usually reserved for something that pushes the medium forward or is a huge technical achievement?” I audibly said “No they aren’t.” Many 10 out of 10 games ARE those things but a 10 out of 10 isn’t RESERVED for those things. Very basic technologies and philosophies that aren’t huge technical achievements and designs that don’t push the medium forward can and have been 10/10 games.
I know that has nothing to do with ER but that’s a fallacious argument imo.
