What was your experience with Elden Ring? I'd love to know. There's no discussion of Invasions in this video as I honestly didn't enjoy getting slapped around 1v3. Thanks for watching and I'll see you in the next one.

One point you absolutely nailed was at the end, when you said you felt empty and didn't want to keep playing after you've done and tried everything in your first playthrough.
I suspected that I might feel the same so I stuck to my original build for the whole game and only respecced twice or so to make tiny adjustments.

I made sure I collected every spell and incantation before starting NG+. So while my first playthrough was a pure str build with a bit of faith for incantation buffs. My second build is going to be focusing on faith/arcane stats with dragon cult, dragon communion, death blight and aspects of the crucible incantations (Yes I collected every memory stone and I've used up all 10 of my spell slots). Since most of these were spells you get in the end game, doing an entire playthrough from the beginning with them is INSANE amount of fun.
But yes, the feeling of discovery, wonder and awe from the first playthrough will never be replicated and that's something I will always cherish no matter how many additional playthroughs I might do.

I had the pleasure of playing Elden Ring as my very first Fromsoft title and it blew my mind apart. I had always avoided Fromsoft games in the past because they looked "too dark and gloomy" and the comments about their difficulty level put me off from even trying. I am humble enough to know my own limitations in gaming and didn't fancy dying a hundred times to a boss. However, Elden Ring, with its amazing scenery and much brighter surroundings and assurances from other reviewers that it was much more newbie friendly made me take the plunge and I have never regretted it. I am nearly 200 hours played and like you, I took the time to explore so many places and nook and cranny. I am in the late game now (killed Fire giant, in Mogh Palace now), and the difficulty is truly there. I am probably a much better gamer now to Fromsoft type bosses and can probably handle the steep rise in difficulty (except maybe Malenia), but the experience up till now has been nothing short of amazing and I agree with everything you said. This is the first complete review where I enjoyed watching from start to end. Because while it acknowledges there will be some short comings, it also addresses that these are the result of trying to balance and present such a massive open world game and fill it with interesting stuff to do and bosses to fight. Its such a massive undertaking I am amazed Fromsoft managed to pull it off. This game has already taken up close to 200 hours of my time and yet I am not even at the end. There are far too many titles out there that could have taken an average gamer like me ten to twenty hours to finish and put down and never look at again. For a title like Elden Ring enable me to get ten times the kind of true enjoyment (and I had far more fun playing this game then I did on many many other games) than I did playing other titles speaks of how much loves they poured into this game. And how other titles just try and sqeeze "barely enough" content into their game to call it done. In conclusion, Awesome almost poetic like review. I will be listening to it more than once! Because I agree with everything you said, and enjoy watching and listening to a fellow gamer gush so poetically about the exact same things I enjoyed as I was playing through this game. Your review has truly done Elden Ring justice!

It's so long and full and rewarding it satisfies by the end unlike so many other games. I will be very disappointed if Elden ring doesn't clean up all the awards as nothing is going to be as good as it this year (Especially not overrated of war). It's got pretty much everything. Its accessible through it's huge variety and choice, its difficulty is debatable its just challenging which is something that most games dont offer. I genuinely don't see how people cannot think this game is nothing but superb and I'm not even a huge souls fan but this was as close to perfect gaming as it gets.

With other games that have come out the past 5 years or so (RDR2 and Sekiro excluded) I could play for a few hours at a time every other day because I'd lose interest. But once I get on Elden Ring, my hands are glued to the controller and I play all damn day. First game to do that to me in a while and to me that's what counts the most. Having fun. This review was perfectly made and people who are considering this game will undoubtedly want to play it with this I have played all the souls games and was baffled by the structure, unlimited things to do, beauty and much more. We don’t deserve Elden Ring we’ve been spoiled, for me this game has truly lifted my hope in story games and gaming in general a lot of people complain about gaming being boring these days but this game truly changed it all and shows that there’s so much more to come into the gaming world later in life and we should be so thankful for this masterpiece to ever come out

Well spoken, Sir! At this point, I do not even know where the end might be with From Soft... I was extremely cautious with the hype beforehand, what with the previous entries each and all being my favourite game(s) in decades...but as you say, basically nothing was lost in translation. The aesthetics, the feel of it all...craftsmanship of the highest order.

I am spending so much time approaching cliffs and looking over the edges to see what lies beyond. Both for the insanely good views but also for the "alright how am I going to get there" feeling. I haven't had to precision game for almost a decade. Between kids and adulting, I have absolutely lost some edges. I also tend towards strictly single player, narrative driven games because every time I have attempted to jump into an open world adventure, I feel lost and unguided. I cannot for the life of me put my finger on it here, but I don't with Elden Ring. I am very slowly progressing and exploring and at around 10 hours in I don't feel lost or bored. It's truly a beautiful experience thus far.

I don't think there's much juice to squeeze out of it... considering it's size. That sounds weird, but really though, I think the game is too big and becomes very repetitive. If you actually do EVERYTHING on your first playthrough, sooner than later, you will find yourself doing the same shit over and over for minuscule rewards. Most of the map is filler content, bosses, useless items and stuff...

@@eduardobenassi3072 I wouldn't say that most of the map is filler content but i do agree that Fromsoft clearly had trouble filling all of the vast map with unique and interesting content. It would have been better if they kept the map a little bit smaller, took out some of the dungeons and copy and paste bosses and focused more making every location and boss unique.
I also noticed that not only does the game lack boss variety (parallel to its scale) but also enemy variety.
This is especially weird because they had this shit figured out perfectly in Sekiro and Dark Souls 3. Every area had unique, "trademark" enemy types that you'll only find there.
Meanwhile in Elden Ring, the Haligtree, one of the most gorgeous and toughest areas of the game doesn't have a single unique enemy. The scarlet rot knights are kinda supposed to be the signature enemies here but not only have we fought them several times long before this but they don't even get a new variant, just scaled up stats for late game.
I know this isn't true for the entire game but it generally adds to the repetetive feeling of the game.
Mountaintop of the giants might be the worst offender here. They literally just slapped Trolls, Spider hands and the Big birds into the area and called it a day...
Sorry, this got much longer than intended. I still love the game but this lack of unique bosses/enemies is probably the biggest flaw for me.

I finished my strength build at 110 hours, around level 120. As a long time souls fan, Elden Ring absolutely surpassed my expectations, and they were quite high. I decided against starting NG+ as I’m sure there’re bosses I’ve missed. Ended up creating a dual katana dex build and have been having a blast again. I’ve been using this character to help other players defeat the first few bosses. While I understand your sentiment for invasions, it is absolutely worth giving it a go for a while. Some of the experiences are hilarious and create even more replay ability, and the feeling of besting 2v1 or even 3v1 is blissful. I’ve even ran into cooperators/hosts who wait their turn while you take on the other, often times with a respectful bow which harkens back to the soul of past games (see what I did there?). This game is indeed an absolute masterpiece, and will certainly keep me engaged for months to come.

This isn't just a fanboy praising the game, I really think Elden Ring is one of the best games ever made, and I think that, if you go first and read guides on how to clear stuff, where to find things, best builds, etc. you will be robbing yourself of a huge chunk of the experience. Play it, go at your own pace, explore, use whichever tools and weapons you find and enjoy your first playthrough to the max.

What makes this review and your perspective stand out for me is your engagement. You poetically express your sense of wonder, challenge, and even frustration in a way that anyone who has played this game for a significant time can relate to. I have never seriously played a souls game before. For me, with Elden Ring, the challenge was secondary at the start. The sense of majesty, wonder, and discovery drew me in. The accomplishment of those challenges has forever tarnished my Soul.

It may not have the elaborate combat dances of Sekiro, and honestly the ruins/caves are more repetitive than even Breath of the Wild's shrines-
But what Elden Ring does get right is an absolutely magnificent achievement. Never could've imagined them synergizing so many Souls elements with an open world, however imperfect. I think the fact that there's criticism at all is a testament to how close they got to perfect. It's a masterpiece and From's best game for sure. Definitely not their hardest or anything, and I can understand some of the diehard souls fan's frustrations but shit they really did a good job all things considered. Runaway GOTY probs- but avoid over leveling, summons, bleed, and magic if you're after some of that souls masochism.

I felt the same way about replaying the game immediately. I finished the game first at level 69, but I kinda rushed that so I did a somewhat more comprehensive playthrough afterwards at level 125.
After that, I had no rush to re-play the game immediately, which is weird because I sunk 700+ hrs in DS3 alone with multiple replays.
But then I took a week off because of a vacation, and when I came back my head started wanting to re-play the game with a different build at NG+, and do a truly more comprehensive playthrough.
I think it might be burn out what you're feeling. Stepping away for a while or playing other games could solve it the way it did for me. Now I'm doing a playthrough on NG+ with a build I havent tried in the Souls series ever (a greatshield using tank that blocks instead of rolls) and it reinvigorated my enjoyment of the game.

I had a very similar experience to you but I've sunk almost 370 hours into this game but I too discovered that NG+ was not what I had hoped although I only respecced for the first time before I went into NG+ to try a different playstyle but the mystery was gone. I started NG+2 but soon stopped because it stopped being awesome. Still fun but it felt more like I should just do a boss run and that did not appeal. Bizarrely one of my most memorable moments in Elden Ring (there are many) was the first time being invaded by the bell bearing hunter at the warmasters shack: dark, raining, wind howling, trees getting buffeted and that red sword flying at me from a distance. I felt genuine glee at that experience and a truly cinematic event even though it wasn't a main story boss or anything. The depth and variety in Elden Ring is simply going to ruin other open world games for me - I already tried another one I've had in my back catalog as a break from Elden Ring but it's already been deleted and I've returned to Elden Ring to start from scratch and try a new playstyle I haven't tried before. The wonder might be gone but the fun still remains.......for now.

Stormveil Castle and Caelid and Caria Manor have history without you, and they will continue to exist whether you explore it or not. You can explore that history, or not. And that's the beauty of the story telling.

170 hours in and I dont think im even halfway through just the upper level map! I did 2 castles or legacy dungeons and just been one with the land really just taking it slow absorbing everything and appreciating every scape. I just feel like im really on a journey to find myself and I have a blank slate and that isnt something I should rush. Im building myself discovering who I am. I really needed this game! I dont think I will finish this game in under 500 hours and still will feel like I missed alot because there is so much to see and find that I just forgot to return to.
I was worried about ER cuz im a Soulsborne guy and I wasn't sure about such a drastic change in world and especially with an open world format in which I have NEVER liked in any game and ive tried just about all of them hoping one would capture me but they just never did and always felt the same and like chores and uninteresting exploration. Elden Ring does something simple yet so complex that it all just feels right! I feel truly free and nothing feels like work and im ALWAYS rewarded in a way that is satisfying and curious. Ill admit sometimes the reward isnt anything special but alot of times it is and thats what gives me drive to seek more!
God I love this game and it is sharing the throne with Bloodborne and Salt & Sanctuary for a 3 way tie for my favorite games of all time. Although all those games do something different for me but familiar I couldn't choose between them. But since im far from beating Elden Ring I have a feeling it may take the throne entirely. I still appreciate the semi linear nature of Soulsborne because the level design and escalating world design but there is just something amazing about having an open ended experience that also has familiar level and world design elements like in ER. Im just so happy to have ER. Im also so excited for Salt & Sacrafice releasing May 10 but im saving that until im completely satisfied with completing ER. The journey is much better than the completion so im not hurrying through ER. Im just greatful I have another one of my favorite games lined up immediately after cuz it always sucks finishing a FS game cuz I feel aimless and no games scratch the itch so I end up having nothing to play until FS release another game or at least only a couple games which are few far and in between.

Elden Ring gave me the best video game experience I’ve had since I played Ocarina of Time for the first time, it’s big, beautiful, challenging, but most of all it’s unbelievably fun, what really sets ER apart for me and it is something I see a lot of people complain about, is the sheer amount of dungeons, caves, and hidden boss encounters are staggering and the bosses repetitive…but here’s the catch that I don’t see many people understand, you don’t HAVE to do any of it, you can do as many or as little side bosses as you like and it not effect the over arching plot of the game, and I really think that is amazing that you have total freedom to how much you want to do and are still able to not miss any of the big points

Its one of the best games because its FromSoftware! The absolute best devs out there, Dark souls, Bloodborne, Sekiro, nothing but works of art in their portfolio. This was their first real attempt at making a real open world & they sure gave other AAA studios great learning material 😅

I bought it downloaded it and counted down the seconds to start playing the night it was released. Beat it twice and love fighting bosses online with random people. Love this game.

I never looked at the volcano manor quest that way, see I was afraid it would damage the main story in the same way you hoped it would affect the story. That just shows, though, how differently this game felt for different players. With entirely different experiences from one person to another. I love that.

Great Video Man!!! I'm like one of these little sucker fishes in the aquarium, and clean a game while I take the longest time to enjoy every experience there is! Elden Ring took me about 400 hours(!!!) to end it, but it's the first time I discover new stuff I've overseen through my first journey, where I got the platin trophie, my first in the Fromsoft games!!! Amber star shard, Talismans that were very hidden away, the storm tear in caelid, even a painting I didn't see on my first trip in the shadow castle, I still find new weapons and I was so sure I had everyone! I don't know if you can get the normal curved sword of the snake humans in Vulcano Manor, it looks like the lava one, but it's black?! And when you kill Edgar, Irina's father, you not get just his halberd, but a powerfull ash of war, and nobody talks about that!!! I don't understand why certain people talk about a repetition in caves, catacombs and I think graves (not sure), but no cave, no catacomb (maybe one) and no grave looks like the other one, there is even another type of cave, the mines where you can find stones to upgrade weapons, and they are as well different!! The repetition of bosses is mostly caused by the stories in the game, and they are well scaled up through the hole game! Or they did repeat certain bosses because you can totally change the way you approach the journey!
Elden Ring is just an incredible awesome game! And it's worth the title of masterpiece!!! What I very rarely say about a game!

I was so tempted to do another playthrough after a dedicated faith paladin build but I resisted the urge because I knew it would be better in the long run to give this game time to breathe in my mind. However it's difficult as playing coop meant that getting invaded was one of the most interesting parts of the mid-late game. I can only hope the population can be sustained for years to come.

Hi there! Great video. Just finished watching right now and already planning to watch more of your channel.
I have my 2 cents about the difficulty topic, as you said it can mess up with balance sometimes. That's a valid point of view, of course.
But I rather say that these things (use or not use summons, play as a "overleveled" or "underleveled" character, and so on) are just a different way of difficulty selection. And, indeed, it is possible to beat the game with a level 1 char with no summons. I watched a streamer doing it then tried to do it myself and it is really possible. So, I dont really found the game to be unfair or unbalanced at any point. You always have the option to use summons, overlevel your char, or simply getting damn good at the game to the point you don't need any of those things. It is really a game that satisfies a big range of people, I would say that almost anyone interested enought can find a playstyle that suits their liking.

I greatly enjoy Elden Ring - as of the time of this comment I am level 106 and nearing 100 hours. I find myself completely invested in the game and can go on and on about all the things I love about it.
That said, there's still something missing about it. Some things I can put my finger on, some things I can't, but these things that are missing for me leave it falling well short of a "one of the greatest games of all time" ranking. I'm not sure where it even ranks on my all time favorite games, but I dont think it would even hit top 10.
While I do find it falling short of the hype, I do find it a game deserving of hype. The combat is probably some of the best I have ever played in an RPG (and as a disclaimer, Elden Ring is my first From game), and the character development and build department isn't perfect by any means, but hits a lot of notes that I look for and may be one of the better player character designs I've played. So don't think that me feeling this game falls short of the hype is knocking it. This is a very well made game, and while as a whole it is not among my favorite games, it has specific designs that are right there alongside some of my favorite games and even surpass them in some.

I’m wondering if Breath of the Wild 2 was delayed because the folks at Nintendo played Elden Ring and freaked out because someone else finally captured that amazing feeling of truly being on an adventure in another world. But then they fixed everything that needed work in Breath of the Wild(healing, combat, and variety) and added everything it felt like it was missing. Despite being the only game I ever wanted to play, Breath of the Wild was, sadly, an experience you can only have once. The absence of curiosity and lack of gameplay variety make later play-throughs feel pointless. But, Elden Ring fixes all that with all of the options, deep combat, and challenging-but-fair difficulty. I bet I’ll play through it five times over the course of a thousand hours. I can’t imagine how Breath of the Wild 2 can hope to match up against this masterpiece. I thought Breath of the Wild would be my favorite game of all time for decades. I’m amazed that Elden ring has managed to knock it aside already. It’s such a great time to be a gamer.

This game was beautiful man I adored it too much. I think My only criticism is some of the repeat bosses being lower quality ganks (I'm looking at you godskin duo). Easily my favorite gsme of all time the boss quality (I mean achievement bosses) were at an all time high

Elden Ring is brilliant. It takes me back to the early days of gaming when we did not get our hands held. One of the more amazing things I have seen with it is my girlfriend has started playing. Her gaming experience is normally matching colors and shapes on her phone. She has already killed Margit and gave me some good advice while I was killing Renalla. That it can engage the relative rookie and the hard gamer of 40 years is incredible.

To be very honest, the first 2/3rds of Elden Ring is an excellent game. Not perfect, not by a long shot. Camera lock on problems, reused enemies (even more than Sekiro), a vague quest design that doesn’t fit very well in an Open World setting, but the gameplay, the aesthetics and the Souls experience made it really fun.
The final third though. Oh my god. It was like I’m playing a scripted FIFA game. Bosses are too fast, hit too hard, have input reading mechanics, and it felt so many times that I wasn’t facing the boss and trynna overcome them, but I was fighting the game itself that simply would not let me do what I wanted to do. That’s incredibly frustrating. I’ve never been one to get angry at any Souls game. More often that not I could play out things exactly as they were in my head. And when I died, and I died a lot, it was because of my mistake. In ER’s final third I died because the game didn’t adjust in time to my actions. Well and truly one of the most disappointing final acts in a game that I’ve ever played. If GoT was a game it’d be this. What a great start, and what an equally abysmal ending. Mind you I’ve got 100 hours and I’m on my 2nd character. I’m not a hater. Just someone who wants to point out that the game is not perfect. It’s full of flaws that need pointing out.
I wish the hype around ER dies down. Sure, sing the praises but also point out the stupid game design decisions that have been made in ER. Let Fromsoft learn from the criticism. They’re not like other studios who wince and make excuses and outright disregard constructive criticism. But if people don’t talk about how ER is bad in a lot of ways they won’t know and won’t learn.

I’m traditionally a more “Leyroy Jenkins” style player, and slowly and painfully this game is educating me…literally beating the “button masher” out of me lol. Admittedly my first FS game and I do believe it’s one of the best games of all time. (Bloodborne andSekira are next)
I gotta say. If people go online looking to farm ruins, get OP items and builds etc…and then complain it’s unbalanced or too easy?! Come on haha. FS veterans and newcomers alike state how hard this game is from top to bottom. The spirit summons, weapons, armours, spells etc… ARE the balance. Keep in mind, multiplayer opens you up to frequent spankings from invader players on top of harder enemies and nerfing your alliance. The game doesn’t let up. I think the only argument for “no replay” would be if people find it unrelenting and overwhelming, then go to do it again…either you’re lining up for a lot more pain, or you’re gonna breeze through cause you’ve mastered everything. 🤷🏻‍♂️ That’s how games work. PVP and DLC on the way though🎉

Elden Ring is one of the greatest games ever made, imo. I'm around level 90 with about 95 hrs in, faith/strength build, still kicking around Caelid. I just finished Ranni's quest, and after Caelid I'm heading to the Capital. There's just so much to see and do, and the fact that I haven't started to tire of it is a testament to it's greatness for me.

Another amazing accomplishment is the file size... between 44-50 gigs depending on what you are playing on. That is insane when I compare the amonut of content to other games twice it's file size. (also no micro trans or loot boxes).
I played 18 hours in the first 48 hours after release(had time off), and just passed the 60 hour mark. Soooo much to explore and find.
ps. From has always been good at file size, but this was them at thier peak as well in this way. They maximized the engine.
