      @ManateeMentality 2 года назад +100

      @@alexcramer2878 No fast traveling?!? You might as well start. When you finally beat the game you’re gonna be like, “Yeah I probably should have fast traveled.” Especially if you realize that you missed a quest or an item and have to backtrack all the way to a place like Caelid or something.
      There are also some important areas that you’ll be spending a lot of time in that aren’t physically connected to the mainland at all. So once you’re teleported to them, you’re gonna have to fast travel back to the mainland anyway in order to continue the game. There’s one place near the end game that you get teleported to, but if you leave that area and then need to go back, your only choice to do so will be to fast travel. Also the Four Belfries teleport you to places that you can only leave via fast travel.
      Might as well just rip off the bandaid and start fast traveling now so you don’t lose 100 hours of your life to backtracking.

    • @KurosakiYukigo
      @KurosakiYukigo 2 года назад +174

      Scaling can be good, it's just that many game devs, especially Bethesda, are really bad at it. It's not fun to go around oneshotting everything because your build has become amazing... but at the same time their "solution" is just to make the enemies unrealistically tanky. "Damage sponginess" is a huge issue that dozens of Skyrim mods try to fix.
      The better way to scale is to give familiar enemies new abilities, resistances against certain strategies and better AI. Obviously they'll need some more health to just not be obliterated by you, but so often difficulty boils down to "this common bandit can take 18 chops from a greataxe"

    • @theobell2002
      @theobell2002 2 года назад +53

      It really just depends on the game. I couldn't imagine a game like Borderlands 2 not scaling enemies to your level in your third playthrough. It would just become boring.

    I had never played a Souls game before, all my friends said "I would hate it" as I'm the kinda person that plays everything casually and on easy difficulty. But I kept seeing videos, and in addition to looking cool, it was almost comical how often people died. So I went in with the expectation like I was rewinding a final destination movie, that I would die all the time (as a method to alleviate impending frustration from getting too close and failing).
    And I had a blast. I mean a genuinely good time. It's not often I can say im glad I didn't listen to my friends. I still haven't beaten it yet, I'm at the Malekith fight (pretty far in) and yeah I'm not bored yet. I also want to now go back and play other fromsoft titles.

      These games are as challenging as you make them. Just wandering around and leveling up a bunch makes the game much easier than not exceeding level 100/120/150 like a pvp tryhard. And the game gives you plenty of OP tools to use (especially summons). So while parts of the game feel harder than past FromSoft games, they can also be made much easier.

    ive just discovered your channel recently but yeah i had tried to play several of the other souls games when i was younger and liked the vibe of them but was never able to stick through the learning curve. Elden ring was the first one i was seriously able to stick through and have since played ds1 and am currently playing ds2 and loving it. Elden ring helped me learn what was so magical about the souls games. The fights aren't just needlessly difficult like some people act like. It is all about repetition and and learning through trial and error how best to defeat your foe, and the joy comes through overcoming that harsh but fair challenge. Im currently playing through all the other souls games before going in for a second go around with Elden ring.

    The best game that I have played in years!!! I’m a fan of Zelda, TLOU, Final Fantasy, GOW, Metal Gear, Octopath, Ghost of Tsushima; Assassin’s Creed, Ori, A Plague Tale, and so on!!!
    My next one will be Bloodborne, then Demon’s Souls and then Sekiro!!!
    But I doubt any of them can match Elder Ring on Exploration and the mechanics and a lot of stuffs we can do with weapons and sorcery…
    The game is just a beauty!!!
    I thought that Ragnarock had better gameplay in combat, cause is amazing too, but when you start growing on Elder Ring and watch all the stuff you can do, it blows your mind!!! God of War doesn’t fall short by any means, but the repertory that ER offers just trap you and make you excited to try a new weapon every time or need spells learned and that without talking about the adding magic to some weapons which make them even crazier!!!
    To me, not just game of the year, it’s the best video game ever!!!
    Sorry Zelda, Metal Gear, TLOU, GOW; Ori, FF, Witcher, and the list goes on and on…

    Update for PC players regarding performance: it’s apparently a very mixed bag on whether you’ll be able to run the game with or without issues. My personal experience was pretty great and reflected as such in the video, but I’ve read about tons of people (even those with powerful rigs) running into issues. It also seems like the day 1 patch made the game somehow run worse for some people than the pre-release review version. Might be a better call to go with the PS5 version for now or wait for upcoming fixes.

So in order to beat him I had to run rings around him on Torrent while pelting him with arrows. It was the cheesiest way to beat him but it still felt like the most intense battle ever. Running around at full speed dodging his fire breath as it fills the screen, shooting arrows at his head when I can, all while the intense latin chanting goes on in the background. I don't think you have to worry that you used Torrent to cheese the fight, because I think the devs actually intended for you to do this fight that way. Agheel's fire AoE attacks cover a huge area everytime so they are hard to outrun/dodge on foot. BUT if you use Torrent to cover more ground you can not just dodge them but you have enough time to get behind Agheel to get a few easy hits in. 14:03 really loved hearing this cause its totally true the souls games are allways described as "hardcore" and "you will never beat it" but actually the difficulty is not that high these games just have a learning curve to them i found this out a few months ago when i started playing dsr and now ds3 they just have something you have to learn about them

      Yeah honestly Zelda breath of the Wild has the same vibes as a dark souls game mechanically. Your given tools, there is an enemy. Go make it unalive. How you do it doesn't matter, you can cheese it or run up and bare fist brawl it for the next 4 hours. Just have fun, and learn to watch and listen to enemies, react to what they are doing but don't panic. You will win, it's only a question of time. To anyone aiming to get into Dark Souls, it isn't as difficult as everyone says, it can be frustrating yes, but not hard. Even the weakest enemy in Dark Souls can kill you if you don't pay attention or panic, that's not difficulty though. From Soft always gives you a way to fight back. You can win, you will win, and when you do you'll feel a feeling that's hard to find anywhere else. Goodluck tarnished one.

      To me a hard game is a mechanically challenging one that requires precision, timing, reaction speed, complex button inputs and so on. Soulsborne games were never that. The proper word to describe them is "unforgiving". You get punished harshly for making mistakes, but everyone's capable of learning from mistakes regardless of mechanical skill. Literally the only thing required to succeed is the strength of will to not give up in frustration, which is directly reflected in the story and themes of Dark Souls series with hollowing.
      Credit to anyone who picks up these games scared of the difficulty but ends up finding that strength of will, OP included.

      Honestly if you're patient and focus on learning timing, they're not particularly difficult. They can be punishing especially if you rush or aren't observant, but the big lesson is to be patient and keep trying, learning along the way. Which is pretty good as lessons go.

After a quick upgrade to my graphics card, it runs smoothly, and I ended up not only catching up to, but surpassing them in about a week, both in game progress and in skill. Very much enjoying my time so far, definitely gonna ng+ this thing a few times to play around with as many builds as possible and discover even more little hidden corners. I'm at 206.8 hours in on Elden Ring; 120 was just Journey 1, and now I'm having a blast in Journey 2, which is WAY easier when you're loaded up with all your goodies and knowledge from the first run! I think that's what's impressed me the most: From Software gave us more tools than ever before to really customize how you play, a let you make a style that lets you win. As long as you know that ahead of time, (and that death is just a tool for learning), then it's easier to grasp From Software's open world concept of exploring to get more tools, get more practice, and more importantly, find your style! It took me a while; I really like being a spell blade. Once you figure out the weapons, spells, or style you like, I think the game gets easier because from then on, you just invest and get stronger at the thing you do well or really enjoy. There were a few times I really had to reconsider, but for the most part, I love how the game gives you a lot of options. Yes, it's difficult, but unlike a lot of RPG's, you REALLY feel every point you spend and tweak you make IMMEDIATELY, which makes your choices incredibly meaningful! This game really is a masterpiece!

    "They didn't have to go this hard, they really didn't."
    But because they did, it makes for a much more impressive game. AAA titles have been so disappointing, and so poorly made of recent years, that games like Elden Ring shine twice, if not three times as bright because of the legendary quality.

      @@jamesreynolds7949 I think you misunderstood. What he was saying was that this game shows off more creative vigor and commitment to the vision than was necessary to make it an excellent game. And this contrasts with many other AAA games that may be technically proficient but are creatively very lacking. Fromsoft could have not worked so hard on the open world, and the game would still be good, but he's glad they did.
      At least that's how I interpreted it. He is not saying they shouldn't have worked this hard, just that they didn't have to if all they wanted was a good game that sold well. They went above and beyond, in his opinion.

    While it's understandable of a feeling at 60 hours in, I think it might be naive to say that every dungeon feels fresh. I felt similarly at 60 hours, but after 200 hours, I definitely had lost any feeling of novelty for at least the last 50 hours in terms of exploration, especially with all the reused content. I'm not complaining, since that's inevitable for a game of this scale, and the variety of enemies is already excellent for its genre. But there's definitely a caveat to the point about dungeon design and how it feels meaningfully novel at scale

    I am new to the souls series. I was so frustrated with the combat mechanics early. It took a while to understand how it works, but with a bit of practice, it was so worth it. I am around ~70 hours into the game (about to beat the last boss), and I have never been as engaged or interested in a game like this in so many years :) The best $60 I've spent on a game in years. Get it if you haven't played it, get it and stick with it. There's so much content on youtube if you don't know how to do something!
