1:11 I’ve gotten a lot of comments thinking this is wrong, so let me clarify. Other weapon types allow you to hold down strong attacks and sometimes this results in two hits. For example, the halberd functions like this wherein holding strong attack fully does a little hit then a big hit. The difference with thrusting swords and why I said they have a combo is that it’s two separate inputs, not just holding down strong attack. So R2 + R2, not just holding R2. I know that’s a little confusing, but hopefully that clears it up.
Pretty sure my longsword and claymore have a combo for heavy, but I'd have to try it again to verify. The light obviously does, but I could have sworn the heavy does as well. One sweeps forward, the second goes back, the opposite of the light attack combo.
Colossal Swords seem to have one as well. It's just pretty slow. For "Greatsword" it's a horizontal slash and then second input is a vertical overhead swing.
Another tip: killing the boss in dungeons allows you to fast travel again, so if you don't remember completing a dungeon, you can enter it and see the map.
Great tip, I use the sword marker for every cleared dungeon/prison and a skull marker, whenever I encounter a boss, I didn’t managed to beat in a few tries to come back later. Basically means calid is full of skulls, because the explorer in me didn’t care about dying 😄
The map tip at the end is extremely important, people are wandering aimlessly around looking for upgrade stones and their minds are blown when I tell them that. It doesn't end there either, the way the map is drawn is very deliberate and conveys way more information than it first appears. You can find stuff like churches (that usually contain sacred tears for your flask), graveyards (contain a lot of rune items), and more, by just finding the right patterns and shapes that are consistent. Also when you first enter a region the map location is always marked with an obelisk, just place a blue marker there and off you go, should be the first thing you go for.
The biggest tip I have for the map is R3 once you unlock underground areas. It never mentions it and just casually puts it on the bottom left which nobody reads. I was traviling up and down long elevators becaue I thought I could only fast travel underground if I was underground and vice versa. R3 just swaps the maps
Also, on a WAYYYY more obvious, but still maybe worth mentioning, note: Minor Erdtrees are also on the map once you've found the Obelisk in a region. And any perfect stone circles are worth checking out as well. Oh, and ... the map has custom map markers. For what ever reason reading tooltips is hard and it took me until ~20 hours in to find out I can mark stuff I don't want to forget. You get 100 markers you can put down, so more than enough.
Fun fact about double drinking - if you're able to access both flasks at once, such as having them assigned to your pouch, you can alternate between crimson and cerulean when doing a double drink, which can be helpful if, for example, you get hit by an attack that both does damage and also drains FP, or if you're just low on both.
Another tip: Flask icon changes depending on you will heal for "more" than your max HP, if you have lost more HP than 1 flask use then it will have a small glow -For all your minmax Flask users
The Nightrider Flail has a charged R2 attack on horse back that has three quick hits with the spinning balls when charged. It's awesome for killing mobs and stacking bleeds on big foes
@@SuicideGoat1 yup- it’s kinda busted actually, but since it can never be used in pvpv i hope it will never be nerfed cuz it’s my main way to kill dragons😅
A quick note about the falling leaves buff: someone else pointed out that it seemed to be happening a lot more for them since adding a group password, and I'd noticed the same thing. From what I can tell, every time you get a 'player in your group has defeated the shardbearer' message, the buff is triggered. Might need more testing but it seems to fit.
It does occur naturally as weather at random, as I have had it trigger while playing offline. While playing online, I have noticed the golden leaves from someone in the group felling a Shardbearer will not interrupt rain or heavy fog, but will occur as soon as the rain or fog clears. Definitely needs further testing.
@@Taolan8472 ah nice, i hadn't noticed that rain etc can delay it. You're right, it definitely happens from time to time regardless of multiplayer activity though.
Its happened to me every time ive beaten a major boss... kind of like how in terraria every time you beat a boss you get a weather event where everyone celebrates.
@@FijianSouljah1312 Have you contributed at all or just reaping the benefits? I've left a few messages about how to get out of tricky traps in dungeons.
If you click in R3 to hide the right side of the menu while you’re using all your golden runes, using each stack won’t automatically exit the inventory so you don’t have to scroll down to them again, you just gotta wait for the animation and you can immediately use the next one. Not life saving but definitely more convenient.
Two things:when you pick up a new item the tooltip shows the icon for the item category it belongs to. This helps finding it in your inventory when you have no idea what you just looted. Second, you can actually sort your inventory by type, new, or number held. The game only tells you when you press help instead of showing the bind on the bottom so I think many people will miss this. It's T on keyboard and L3 on controller iirc.
I was JUST complaining about never being able to find new items, thank you so much! I pick up so many things in the heat of battle and then have to play where's Waldo to find it in my crowded inventory 😆
20 hrs into the game and I’ve just defeated Godrick. Never have I played a more rich and dense open world game. A masterpiece in every sense of the word. From never disappoints
That attacking off ledges thing actually could be useful when facing a drop you're not sure will kill you. If it's lethal then attacking won't let you fall, but if it's safe you'll go right off
I'd be hesitant to rely on that since you're risking your life to check and there is already an item made for that purpose, which are called prism stones
Double drinking also works when swapping between HP and FP flasks. It's slightly slower because your character has to pull out the other bottle, but it's still noticeably faster than two single chugs.
2:48 I actually recommend *against* putting your lantern on one of your 4 precious pouch slots - those should be reserved for things you need immediate access to during combat. There's never really any time that you're suddenly thrust into darkness, so it's fine to take the time to go into your inventory to use it, but if you'd really want quicker access to it, put it in one of the 2 extra pouch slots. You have the open the menu and scroll over to it, but that's still convenient.
Eh. I only have horse and lantern slotted in there. Other 2 are empty, lol. I don't really need anything else. The Incantation that removes poison and rot makes rot/poison consumables useless.
The BIG TIP is... learn to use your right thumb to hit the down button while you run, hopefully holding an under trigger to run with an elite controller, OR using claw finger with your right index finger...
I use it for the horse and flasks, saves me from ever having to scroll through if i need a heal quick (and yes i know the hold down gets you to first slot trick, i still think it is faster from the pouch plus same speed for both flasks as opposed to just the one in the first slot)
The Mimic Tear ashes will actually have the same quick items as you do! If you have a warming stone in one of the quick slots, your summon will use them periodically, and it doesn't use the actual item at all! This also works with firebombs and throwing knives!
Escaped Ukraine, finally made it back to Australia, and literally just installed Elden Ring. Your videos sustained me in the refugee camps of Moldova. Had me excited to get back home and play.
Here's a tip: If you can't use your weapon skill because of the shield skill overwriting it, you can buy the Ash of War: No Skill from the Warmaster's shack and apply it on the shield.
Another useful tip most people don't know about is that when you get an important item, the inventory section it fits under is displayed as an icon in the top left of the popup. Saved me so much time scrolling through my inventory trying to figure out what the hell I just picked up.
Regarding jumping onto breakable objects, I noticed that the thorned armor that adds damage to your rolls for some reason removes the "damage" of your jump, so while wearing them your jump no longer breaks objects and you can climb on them easily. It seems like a bug, but it's interesting.
As a new FromSoft player in Elden Ring, your line is something I'm trying to keep in mind "In FromSoft games, a win is a win so use every tool you have"
Heyo Pine!! Please keep these Elden Ring vids as spoiler free as you can (You're doing amazing rn). HUGELY appreciate it dude. Absolutely love your stuff
Pro tip if you're a caster equip a light weapon with the ash of war determination you basically get a 50% damage boost on you're spells for a small amount of time
@@MattHatter360 So to clarify, I have a straightsword in main hand with determination AoW, and my catalyst in the left hand. I two-hand the SS, activate determination on it, then go back to one-handing it, and my spells do more damage for ~10s?
I'm so happy you're drawing attention to the Barricade Shield skill. I've been trivialising so many melee encounters with a combination of that skill and guard counters, even against enemies with two-handed swords it's ridiculously good, it even seems to increase the shield's non-physical resistances slightly as well as greatly reduced stamina usage. You can literally block an entire boss attack combo and still have stamina left for a guard counter most of the time.
I was having so much trouble with the erdtree avatar, I tried out the turtle shield and it made the fight SO much easier, I'm thinking of changing my dual swords build
Reminds me of the magic shield spell from dark souls 3, you were able to essentially turn certain shields into 100% stability shields, meaning their stamina never went down.
@Charles Hastings Barricade + Guard Counter Talisman + Magic shield/greese + Spear/Rapier + Greatshield. Become unkillable. Poke away at the enemy from your walking fortress of a character
This made its round on reddit a while ago, and the results are inconsistent. As far as I know you shouldn't ever be able to 'attack step' off of a fatal ledge, but the game will also protect you from falling off of many ledges even if the fall is survivable, so it's not a catch all test.
I don't think it's reliable, I was trying to attack an enemy on a ledge two feet below me and it wouldn't let me drop down to hit him. So it wouldn't have been a good test for whether the fall would kill me
@@KubaA7 You my guy may want to edit your comment. I for my part luckily solved that catacomb puzzle but didn't know about those invisible bridges Fair enough the game is old, but this is a tipps and tricks video without major spoilers.. and you just casually spoilered stuff they may have found out themselves
Fun fact! While crouching, you get a special roll animation, and when you come out of it, you’re still crouching. Also, I know most of you probably already know, but blocking makes you stand up from crouching. Also also, you can sprint while crouching. Very useful for stealth gameplay.
It was extremely satisfying when i discover that I could avoid attacks by jumping. I was fighting this giant and after a greedy combo I was almost with zero stamina and I couldn't possibly get away from him before his wide attack and then I instinctively pressed the jump button and avoided the damage. Definitely one of the most satisfying moments in my life as a gamer.
If you're taking on groups of enemies on horseback this attack absolutely rocks their shit. The timing isn't as precise if it's a group and the hitbox is big enough to hit a ton of dudes per swing
an extra tip for swapping weapons on horseback: it counts your right hand as 1h, and your left hand as 2h, so if you're using a big weapon that you can only use with 2 hands, put it in your left hand so it'll work on horseback
aahhh This is why I kept thinking the 2h before mounting thing was wrong because I was testing a LH weapon and it was the same whether I 2h before mounting or not. So you can EITHER 2h your RH weap before mounting or you can use your LH, which will automatically 2h
When making jump shots with a bow "always" shoot again when you land on the ground. That way you are able to get two shots in way quicker than normally, this safed me some times! And looks awesome to do as well!
Small thing I found out is that crystal darts can put some weird effect on certain enemies. Throwing a number of darts will put an enemy off balance and then give some weird confusion effect, best part is that other enemies around start attacking that enemy as well. I discovered it fighting 2 Erdtreee Burial Watchdog, basically nullifying one of them right off the gate. It does not seem to work on all enemies but it was fun finding something new!
tt should also be noted that the halberd's second attack actually knocks humans and demi-humans far into the air, like when you get hit by the tree sentinel's charge attack, making it really fun when you pull it off
Pro Tip: You can open the map and fast travel while resting at a site of grace. Didn't realize this for the first 20+ hours of playing since there's no menu option like previous titles
@@tomc.5704 yea don't trust the map button to tell if you are safe though that killed me the other day. enemy never de-aggroed and came and got me while i was looking at my map.
Wait what!? This is a game changer since I always find myself resting at a site of grace by accident when I wanna fast travel, still used to the old souls titles in so many little ways lol
In co-op, using a critical hit on a staggered enemy is almost always disadvantageous because it locks out damage from all other sources during the entire animation. Instead-- don't do it and all party members can keep attacking while the enemy is staggered. Different from Dark Souls 3 as well, hitting a staggered enemy doesn't immediately stop the staggering (until they're in that downed state), so you can hit them while they're falling and still get a critical hit after a swing or two.
I've noticed that while it may have been a bug in DS3, Elden Ring makes it WAY easier to synchronize a double (or more) visceral attack. This is pretty trivial to do if you have voice chat and makes it worth the damage. Plus, you get a couple extra charged heavy attacks during the recovery animation! Just used this technique to destroy an Erdtree Avatar.
There are some cases where this is not advantageous. The large golems with flaming cores take way more damage from the stance break critical as do some bosses like Mennala who will take like half her health bar from one
1) if you hold a heavy attack with a shield on a horse, then the character will be protected from damage while riding, but, unfortunately, will not cause damage to enemies, for example, ramming them with a shield on the move. As well as a heavy blow with a weapon. Such a block on a horse cannot be kept forever, after a few seconds (or when you release the heavy attack button), the character will hit with a shield. 2) Crossbow shoots fast, but takes a long time to reload. Moreover, you can reload the crossbow at any convenient moment, i.e. firing and reloading are two independent actions. The first click on the shot button - the crossbow makes a shot. The second click - the character loads the crossbow into combat position, and does not make a shot. And also a crossbow and a bow can be prepared for a shot by holding the shot, the character will aim the bow / crossbow at the target, but the shot itself will be fired only when you release the shot button. This is convenient, especially with a bow, you can pull the string in advance, and wait for the right moment to shoot directly, if the enemy is moving quickly, or is covered by a shield. Or if you are riding a horse, because you can’t shoot on a horse with your back to the enemy, you can hold down the attack, turn the horse around and immediately shoot.
Another interesting thing, crossbows dont have any stat scailing... unlike bows, so regardless of class you can use them with ease as long as you have the equip load for it.
Technically, rain raises your fire absorption and lowers your lightning. The same goes for enemies, which is why your damage is affected. You can see it in your stats screen. I wonder how this might affect people's PvP habits.
Love these videos, dude. They're super useful for linking to friends when they're trying out the game for the first time. I have a few extra notes for an eventual possible third tips video. Tip 1: A common mistake I see people make in coop is to go for the crit/finisher when they stun a big boss, when almost nobody is using a weapon made for crits. The better option is ALWAYS to just avoid the crit point and just unload your stamina bar using normal attack chains or your strongest spells. You will do an insane amount of more damage during the boss's stun downtime, since all of the hits do additional counter damage. Tip 2: Another note is that whips in this game are not only unparryable, but also just unblockable entirely. You can't crit with them, as usual, but newbies may not realize that if they don't read item descriptions. I'm not sure if this applies to any other weapon skills, but the nox flowing sword (and maybe the hammer too?) have unique skills that also share the same whip properties of being entirely unblockable/unparryable. Tip 3: Most weapon skills can still be used even without FP, as long as they have a physical component. Most of the time the damage is just nerfed a bit and/or special secondary effects won't happen, but otherwise their weapon properties will still be present. This is SUPER USEFUL in certain situations, like the magma dashing in this video, or for multi-hit skills when you're using a weapon that can inflict status effects. And a question I haven't actually had the chance to test yet: is it still impossible to parry certain weapon types if they're being 2-handed?
I don't know about parrying 2-handed weapons, especially in PvP. But you can only parry attacks from enemies that are humanoid and relatively close to your size. I don't know if that answered you question, but thanks for your tips, the whip one will come in handy on the 3 PvP battles in White Mask Varre's questline. Edit: Instead of parrying, which requires precise timing and knowing enemy attack patterns, it's much easier to guard counter. You can guard counter most weapon attacks, 1 or 2-Handed, it becomes even easier if you're using a greatshield, most weapon attacks just bounce off greatshields.
About the "two handing shield" tip: I once accidentally switched my shield to two handing it instead of my weapon and I finished a boss fight this way out of panic. It's actually pretty strong, especially if you are a strength dude and use tower shields.
Try blocking the strongest hits with a 2h shield heavy attack It worked on previous souls games and it's severely underrated Maybe it works in Elden Ring too
Re: the "golden leaf shower" weather effect: Since putting in the SEEKERS group password for Vaati's group, I've noticed the showers coincide with a prompt stating that a shardbearer has been defeated. It also seems to trigger more frequently... I guess it's a huge group, so shardbearers go down a lot. I think they can occur at any time of day, too.
Yeah the SEEKERS group seems to be huge. I get a lot of those buffs and I see a ton of group specific signs. Iron Pineapple should start a group as well!
I actually just found out about the soap today. I got super green from the poison (cause I rolled mb). And just as I was about to be poisoned. I remembered the soap. And it went away XD
@@cybunny25 which is good, since poison is strong now (apparently in From land, green is more deadly than purple 😅), and that red rot can also be used as a weapon buff. i hope there’s a rot weapon. it wouldn’t surprise me, got killed by a dude with a sleep sword. that thing hurt
My god! I learned so much from your videos without worrying about spoilers! It's made my life so much better since I'm playing my first Fromsoft game blind.
in the map menu you can press triangle to bring up a list of all the sites of grace, you can then press square to go back to the round table hold instantly
@@charleyweinhardt you can always fast travel in and out of the underworld, there's a button to select different layers on the map. I forgot which one, but it says on your map after you find the first underground map piece.
here is some tip for next vid : - bleed, poison and forst do damage in % of max hp. - when you guard break an enemy the place where you do the most damage with a critical hit is shown with an orange light - fieldbosses don't regenerate hp when they reset. THE MAIDEN IN THE ROUND TABLE GIVES YOU A 5% PERMANENT HP DEBUFF, MAKE SURE TO REMOVE IT BY USING THE "BLESSING"
Isn't the orange light just showing where the critical is? I've never tried to pull off a visceral on a giants knee caps cause I'm 100% sure you can't 😆
accidentally learned about crouch attacks, i cannot emphasize how useful this is especially with colossal swords that have a thrust move. since all your moves are slow and heavy, the thrust attack is arguably the most useful attack, so being able to initiate it outside of rolling is super good!
If you learn the timing, you can do jump attacks extremely fast by beginning the jump attack animation on the same frame your feet leave the ground. I haven't measured it, but it really looks like it comes out faster than crouch-into-R1
Regarding the Golden leaves falling, if you join a multiplayer group, then every time a member of the group kills a shardbearer, the weather event triggers. I currently only know of the SEEKERS and FEXTRA groups.
I have a tip, If you are standing at the edge of a cliff on your horse and you have a usable bow equiped, you can spin your camera around and tap the aim button and Torrent will adjust to face the direction you aimed.
8:42 I actually like to assign both tear flasks on puch, so I don't have to cycle my items to heal / restore FP, even if you can jump to first, you still waste more time holding the button and chugging or holding the button, cycling to desired item and chugging than it does to just click pouch binding
A small detail I've found about switching weapons on horseback: You know how it's good to two hand your weapon before going horseback, so that you get the strength increase from two handing? I've found that if you switch to your other hand's weapon, there is no way to get the two handed bonus again while mounted. I found this while using a scythe I can only wield effectively when two handing. If I swap from it to use my seal, and swap back, the red X is shown on the scythe, meaning I'm no longer technically two handing it. It's pretty brutal because I end up doing next to no damage with the scythe when this happens, where as when I am two handing it, it does a lot of damage.
time to level up then.... don’t worry about being “over leveled” endgame levels are really high now, so go nuts. people are averaging between 130 - 160 from what i’ve seen, plus weapons upgrade to +25 now, so go ahead and get those stats you need without worry!
Yes swapping whilst riding causes them to default to 1h mode, this is obvious and i'm hoping they instead make weapons default to 2h mode when riding in a patch soon, because there's literally no reason not to, and lots of reasons TO do so.
@@Rakshael I've already theorised that for this game, the pvp SL cap will be higher, due to the incredibly high stat requirements of many sorceries and incantations in the game. Plus, more weapons require heavy stat investment in multiple categories now! Most importantly though? The game is much, much longer, so I can see the SL cap being higher just off of that merit alone. I reckon Elden Ring will be about 160 for the level cap once I community have decided.
Things like the "rain affects damage" or "fire damage makes bomb enemies explode" is why Fromsoft makes the best games. Such tiny details that barely change anything, but From goes the extra mile to care about it. Makes the world feel so much more alive and in-depth
Reminds me of Dragon's Dogma where being soaked in water makes you vunerable to lightning but it also can spread lightning to other enemies fast if they're wet or standing in puddles and you can throw oil at enemies to make them more vunerable to fire.
I mean . . . this aspect is like the core of what BotW was designed around, and they didn't make it a little 10% buff or debuff, but a HUGE factor that couldn't go unnoticed like metal weapons being lightning magnets. This is one area that From is definitely not innovating in, but borrowing from. And lightning water circles weren't from DS2, they were in DS1 as well. DS2 added the lightning doing more damage from a player being wet thing because it added being wet as a "Status effect" for the first time. To be clear on the "water thing," as there were a couple in the video.
The crouching attacks just seem to be the attacks you do after rolling, just stationary of course So if those look good you know what to expect, knowing the moveset of your weapons is very important Also a good tip for those that don't know (if it wasn't mentioned already): The angle of the camera can affect the attack animation, when it looks up your attacks swing more up, this is really good when some attacks go over small enemies heads, what you do is stop locking on and swing with your camera looking to the ground. It's annoying but it generally works and with weapons that have thrust attacks it's good to hit certain enemy parts (like the head)
For 3:34 "Golden leaves at night," this buff isn't night-time exclusive. It's a blessing of the Erd Tree, and there's a few ways you can tell that it's active. One is the falling gold leaves that you mentioned, another is rays of radiant light shining from the Erd Tree, another is that you'll have golden anime powering up lines coming off your character, and finally you will have the status icon under your health bar that looks like the golden claw status icon that shows up when you use the golden claw item. I haven't tested if this rune bonus stacks with other rune bonuses, but since the golden claw item stacks with the golden scarab talisman I assume that this buff would also stack. So if you're sitting on a bunch of golden claws that you haven't been using, the Erd Tree blessing might be a good excuse to use them since you (probably) get to double dip on the buff.
Another really useful tip is that you can see where map pieces are located even if you don't have a certain area filled out. There are these little brown/redish statues on the map and if you go to these they are always map pieces. For the longest time I was just randomly running around trying to find them but it turns out they are always on the map (as long as you've explored enough of an area to clear the mist on the map)
The clip at the very end reminded me of something: if you see a roaming caravan with a chest, you don't need to kill all the enemies to open it. You can't open the chest while the caravan is in motion, but if you knock the giants dragging it a couple times to get them to stop moving, you can swoop around back and open the chest and get out quickly with your horse!
Which is exactly why lightning damage appears to go up, while fire damage appears to go down. It isn't the damage that is changing. Everyone's resistances are changing, including both yourself and your enemies
TIP: The Baldachin's blessing (that you get from hugging that woman) has a hidden health health debuff (something like -5%) while the item is in your inventory. If you use the item, this debuff will go away immediately after the effect wears off
Good trick that might help with boss fights: Skeletal Malitia is an amazing Ash Summon. It is cheaper than the larger crowd Summons like Demihumans and gives you 2 Skeletons with spears. The reason they are so good is because they behave exactly like the skeletal enemies in game. When a skeleton goes down, it has to be hit again or else it will get back up with full health after a short delay. This applies to your Skeletal Militia summon as well. And Bosses seem to instantly de-aggro the skeletons after they go down, so they don't get attacked on the ground and can just keep coming back over and over. Really effective.
they do seem to de-aggro the skeletons, but they can switch back on a dime. though the skeletons are very low to the ground while reviving so if the move doesn't slam into the ground they'll probably whiff anyway
I find the 5 Great Shield Soldiers much more reliable. They can tank some pretty hefty hits and keep the boss off you longer than the skeletons do, which is the main reason I use summons as a caster. But before that yeah, the skeletons were nice.
I've tried them a couple of times and when I have the bosses kill them right after they hit the ground maybe I've just tried the wrong bosses though trying on a dragon for example was very dumb of me :)
Hmmm. That actually is useful since I picked those guys up and then immediately ignored them thinking they'd be as useless as those enemies are in-game.
I have been using the fire eagle summon, quite a few of humanoid enemies have problems even hitting it reliably and it's fire breath has quite a good stunning effect
The mimic spirit summon is op since it copies everything you have from spells to equipments. Not only does it have basically infinite fp, it also gets your ring effects, meaning you can equip the taunt ring before summoning it and swap it out after. This way the boss and all enemies will primarily attack your summon while you are free to do dmg from relatives safety
I had the Mimic spirit for ages and didn't even know it just copies your player. I learned that it's a really good spirit for the Rykard fight since you need to use a special weapon on him like Yhorm from Souls 3- and the Mimic helped out a lot since it will also use the weapon. I've been using it as my main spirit summon since.
Crouch R1 with colossal swords is amazing, really nice to mix up with normal attacks in pvp too. Jump and roll is amazing for safely dealing with the grabby zombies.
7:50 One thing I've noticed is that while backstabs do less damage than frontal ripostes, they almost always leave you more "plus" after the animation, meaning you're free to act while they're still stuck on the ground for a longer window. Depending on the enemy or boss you're fighting, this might make the difference for a guaranteed attack afterwards, sometimes making it so you can land bigger, heavier blows. Basically, there are times when it makes more sense to go for the poise-break backstab!
My brother and sister are brand new to souls games and I recommend these videos to them to see nuances and tricks that skip even veterans. Keep up the good work :)
Idk if it counts as a "combo", but with a flail (at least basic "flail") you can charge a heavy on horseback, which has the player spinning the flail, doing damage with each hit (3 wind ups, plus the heavy swing). Allowing you to stunlock an enemy from horseback. And if all 4 hits land, it will usually stance break, and will usually cause bleed out. Best horse weapon I've found so far, imo.
THANK YOU for the ground stump avoidance tip, as a veteran the jumping mechanic is not yet in my system, but I will definitely try to use this way more often with bosses that do ground attacks
Dude im so happy i get to watch new videos, seriously every video is seriously a treat to watch. Glad your having fun with this game. Would love video on your own end game build that you find unique.
1:51 The 'special crouch attack' is actually just the rolling attack btw, it's the case for every weapon, it just substitutes a rolling light or heavy while crouching, still useful for large weapons as a mix up
If you wanna get to the Round Table Hold early, you can go around Storm Veil on the right side and get the first grace you find. Melina will then invite you. Thank you for the awsome videos, keep up the good work. 😁👍
Little tip usefull in the beginning, when you go around, especially with torrent, you'll encounter a lot of shiny skulls on the ground, they always give you a little usable rune, wandering around you'll collect a lot in no time. After 10 min of riding torrent I found 30 skulls, equal 6000 rune. So keep an eye for shiny skulls and spam the collect button.
I've roamed all over and still haven't seen a single one of these skulls people keep talking about. Beginning to think my game is cursed cause I've been looking for them everywhere I go, even backtracked lol
@@MongoTheMagnificent666 youve probably been kicking them around or something. theyre insanely hard to miss. saw one within 10 seconds of leaving the starting area and continue to. thought they were just rocks at first. stomp on it with a horse or hit it while unmounted.
1:23 Dude, this tip alone was worth the whole video for me as a complete newbie to the game after having never played anything but Sekiro from FromSoftware! You can't imagine how doing damage while simultaneously shielding is a godsend while still learning the game!
3:43 Swift Glintstone Shard can also be cast while jumping, unlike any other spell ive tried so far. Havent tried it after rolling but i assume it works the same way as bows
Some great tips here! Here's a suggestion: “Wacky Tactics,” an Elden Ring series where you take on areas in the most outlandish of ways with mis-matching armor, odd weapons, and generally somewhat of a balls-to-the-walls kind of approach.
That was quick! Nice video again, i'm glad you decided to include the backstep block and the barricade shield in this one. Barricade shield is really he closest you can get to an easy difficulty in the game, it's been carrying me through a lot of monster encounters so i don't have to put in much effort when i don't feel like it, and it's the ultimate "fallback" skill for when things go south and you need a moment to gather yourself and figure out what is happening. A lot of the bosses and larger enemies in this game have multi-hit combos that i imagine can oneshot a lot of players, especially if they like to explore like i do and frequently stumble into higher level areas that they aren't really supposed to be going to yet. I got six level-ups straight after killing a boss that yielded something like 80 000 runes, and there is simply no way in hell i could beat that one so quickly if i had to dodge all of its multi-hit attack combos. Looking forward to next one!
Tip for new players. upgrade your endurance to about 20 pretty early, before investing in health (,use gear and weapons without fat Rolling) and to be able to Block without to many guard breaks. Also don't get to hung up in damage numbers when choosing wich weapon to use. A weapon that has 130 in dmg, isen't neccesearly better than a dager that has 90. Pick a weapon that you like, and have fun using it.
If you need to jump a fair distance but dont have enough space for a running start you can jump in place, hold the sprint button, then run in desired direction and instantly jump with a lot of forward movement
The flail heavy attack on horseback is so much fun. Just twirling and smacking and mowing down everything in your path! You can ruin big chunky enemies crazy fast with some bleed effect added.
2:29 When you mention the Item pouch you suggest to place the horse and the lantern there. I agree with the horse but I would suggest to use the other three slots for helath, mana and wonderous flask. This way, no matter how cluttered my equipped items are, the important ones will ALWAYS be where I want them to be. Now, your suggestion form the last video works for this aswell (hold down for a short time) but I found that I'm a bit faster with Y+arrow.
probably true for controller but for mouse and keyboard the default binding is E+Arrow key. hHaling like that wouldn't be viable as you have to take your hand off the mouse and therefore can't block or attack until your hand goes back. Even summoning horse mid fight can even be a bit tricky.
Another tip: If you die (in a dungeon for example) you can equip a sacrificial twig until you get your runes back, if you happen to die another time, the runes you lost before are still there so you can die as often as you have sacrificial twigs equipped! Just found this out because I was walking in some catacombs with 90k runes in my pockets right before the damn lever to open the boss room. Thought they were gone after I died the second time, but I equipped the twigs anyway for the small chance that my 90k runes are still where I died the first time, and they were! I always thought the twigs only count for runes in your inventory.
There's a giant dragon to the far east past Caelid that sleeps on the ground and does not move when you hit him, if you carry a bleed weapon, you'll be able to kill him rather quickly by hitting his tail, when you do, he'll drop 70,000 runes and 5 dragon hearts, you can easily level to the 20s with whatever stats you need for weapons and equipment. You can do this whenever you first leave the starting area, all you need is the horse, and a bleed weapon. It's especially nice if you're a faith character, because you can literally start the game with the dragon spells
@@robertwright2259 yeah I never bothered with them lol I just happened to find the place because I was searching for high level gear along with somber stones around level 15, i figured if I tried to fight I'd get pancaked LOL But that is good to know, runes are pretty hard to come by starting out, it takes Forrrrrrever
@@FosterC144 If you feel brave, the Fort right near that juicy dragon tail has bats in it. The golden ones with faces can drop Rune [9] fairly often, that's 3.8k Runes a pop. They are ruthless in that tiny corner but if you lure them out to the doorway and pelt them with bombs or smack them with a heavy weapon they'll stagger and die pretty swiftly. Bonus: the Grace is next to it, so if you flop no issue. Not as fast as the tail but still worth mentioning, I think. :D
You can also do it in your friends' games, so up to two people can join in on the jolly soul farming. Don't forget the buy 3 chicken feet from Patches so you get almost 100k souls each time.
Another tip I personally have after experimenting that I have seen incorrectly stated on articles that you kind of demonstrate here, you don't need a shield at all to guard counter. As long as you block in some way followed by a heavy attack, the guard counter will happen. If you try to do this with a weapon (I.e. you're two-handing, we all know you are doing it, samurai players), you will probably want heavier armor and more health to reduce the damage ratio as much as possible, but it is possible.
When you press x while in any of the armor menus, you'll notice some armor pieces give effects. For example, Okina Mask raises dexterity while lowering focus.
Yes! Check out the Y side too for resistances... spiralhorn small shield and the eclipse greatshield give +50 to robustness (bleed/frost), vitality (death), and immunity (poison/rot). The item descriptions don't really give much indication of this. Other ones I've noticed are the small ice shield and the small lava shield, but these are just +30 to one resistance, though.. point is, if you're running through... idk... a lake.. of say... rot.. then you should carry one of these shields! Even just having it on your back gives you the effect if you are 2hing something else or on a horse.
I would appreciate you looking into the rusty anchor. It's a "greataxe" with a very unique hitbox, it also does piercing damage with a swinging movement. It's very interesting.
I assigned my crimson and cerulean flasks to the left & right spots in my item pouch, respectively, and it's been an absolute gamechanger. Instant HP/FP restoration in basically one button press!
@@papajohn6839 It's not, you have to press 3 buttons instead of 1 or 2, also you can't move while using the pouch because you're taking your thumb off the analog.
@@Eagle3302PL true but it takes the mental strain off of having to look at your flasks to make sure you’re on the right one and frees up your square input for a different item. want to point out that the walking mausolea can duplicate remembrances; however the ones with bells can only duplicate the ones from "main bosses" while the ones without bells can only duplicate the ones from secret bosses
One thing people should know that I haven't seen mentioned: When crouching, enemies can't hear you. Even if you run. You don't have to inch close to enemies like in some stealth games, you are free to move as fast as you please.
To add to this, you can even stealth-run up against the enemy and they won't "sense" you, unless you're in their line of sight or another enemy spots you. Some of the more intricate levels have AI patrolling and positioned in such a way that you can take them out one by one with a backstab and a well placed rock.
Don't recall if he mentioned this in the previous video, but another hot tip is that you can often distract enemies with an arrow/throwing knife/etc. They'll face toward the impact sound or pathfind to it, giving you another opportunity for stealth required ahead.
It really helped me to realize that touching them doesn't alarm them. Since the backstab area is so close and can be difficult to judge on enemies of different sizes, just sprint crouch all the way to running into them and then stabby stabby
fingerprint shield and spiked pallisade also fully viable 2h weaps. Those 2 you can put different ashes on, too, and build up bleed, madness (or whatever else you want to add on top if you have the whetstone for it) with each little push hit if you are charging forward with them
Your tips are so useful and your last vid changed my play style completely and I kept exploding the stone guys with blasphemy’s blade and didn’t know why

I’ve gotten a lot of comments thinking this is wrong, so let me clarify.
Bonus points for using "wherein" in a sentence
Looking forward to some fine pvp shenanigans, you ejamakated sonuvagun
Try using the twin blades on horseback. It does multiple hits and can clear hordes of enemies with ease
Pretty sure my longsword and claymore have a combo for heavy, but I'd have to try it again to verify. The light obviously does, but I could have sworn the heavy does as well. One sweeps forward, the second goes back, the opposite of the light attack combo.
thought some people might misunderstand. Cool tips thanks man!
THAT is useful.
Holy shit. This is insanely useful
Thank you, this is great
I never knew this. Thank you so much
Great tip, I use the sword marker for every cleared dungeon/prison and a skull marker, whenever I encounter a boss, I didn’t managed to beat in a few tries to come back later.

@@Hephaestus_God WAIT, WHAT?

🤯🤯🤯 thanks
This applies to ds3 as well

Another tip: Flask icon changes depending on you will heal for "more" than your max HP, if you have lost more HP than 1 flask use then it will have a small glow

The Nightrider Flail has a charged R2 attack on horse back that has three quick hits with the spinning balls when charged. It's awesome for killing mobs and stacking bleeds on big foes
The normal flail has this too and it’s easy to obtain and use, I got it pretty much at the start of the game and still use it for horseback

If you click in R3 to hide the right side of the menu while you’re using all your golden runes, using each stack won’t automatically exit the inventory so you don’t have to scroll down to them again, you just gotta wait for the animation and you can immediately use the next one.
That's actually incredibly useful. Thank you.

That attacking off ledges thing actually could be useful when facing a drop you're not sure will kill you. If it's lethal then attacking won't let you fall, but if it's safe you'll go right off
Doesn’t work on elevators, I just lost 12k souls for science.
I'd be hesitant to rely on that since you're risking your life to check and there is already an item made for that purpose, which are called prism stones

It's only for ledges to void. When there is a death drop to another area you can get to, just not from there, you will fall off and die.
@@karmicknight I just jump because this game isn't permadeath and there's a grace every 20 feet
Double drinking also works when swapping between HP and FP flasks. It's slightly slower because your character has to pull out the other bottle, but it's still noticeably faster than two single chugs.
Mage eyes sparkle. Refueling FP is brutal sometimes
I have elixir, throwing dagger, mount, and grease in clockwise order
@@charleyweinhardt I just use my pointers for the D Pad and thumb/pointer for Right Side Buttons

Regarding jumping onto breakable objects, I noticed that the thorned armor that adds damage to your rolls for some reason removes the "damage" of your jump, so while wearing them your jump no longer breaks objects and you can climb on them easily. It seems like a bug, but it's interesting.

@@MattHatter360 can you explain this to me like im five?
It's so good it single handedly makes a fat rolling greatshield tank build viable.
Turtle Shield is unironically godly.
That it's also a Grass Crest Shield with Stamina regen only makes it better.
@Charles Hastings Barricade + Guard Counter Talisman + Magic shield/greese + Spear/Rapier + Greatshield. Become unkillable. Poke away at the enemy from your walking fortress of a character
6:23 so does this mean can you attack near ledges instead of using rainbow stones to test if you'll survive?
Then again, if you don't actually want to drop down....
So it wouldn't have been a good test for whether the fall would kill me
@@Rc3651 You already knew the fall wouldn't kill you.

It blows me away how many Hidden Mechanics this game has.
Elden Ring really is something
Pineapple, in horseback halberds have a combo heavy attack if you max charge it. The second hit can send enemies flying, really cool animation.
The timing can be tricky but that uppercut hits HARD
You basically have to hit the 2nd attack because the first hit is baby damage
If you're taking on groups of enemies on horseback this attack absolutely rocks their shit. The timing isn't as precise if it's a group and the hitbox is big enough to hit a ton of dudes per swing
The colossal sword charged horse r2 is just flat out better tho
Same thing with curved swords, but the first swipe does maybe 1/5 damage of the second swipe
an extra tip for swapping weapons on horseback: it counts your right hand as 1h, and your left hand as 2h, so if you're using a big weapon that you can only use with 2 hands, put it in your left hand so it'll work on horseback
aahhh This is why I kept thinking the 2h before mounting thing was wrong because I was testing a LH weapon and it was the same whether I 2h before mounting or not. So you can EITHER 2h your RH weap before mounting or you can use your LH, which will automatically 2h

Pro Tip: You can open the map and fast travel while resting at a site of grace. Didn't realize this for the first 20+ hours of playing since there's no menu option like previous titles
There's no menu option because you can do that from the map from anywhere not in combat, not just while resting
Yup! You can open the map anywhere except while inside a cave or with an enemy nearby trying to attack you
@@tomc.5704 yea don't trust the map button to tell if you are safe though that killed me the other day. enemy never de-aggroed and came and got me while i was looking at my map.

Or you could just synch up your critical attacks on a staggered enemy and double the damage.
I let my boy with high critical and bleed damage do those, but rizzu is right that in some situations this is a better strat.
I prefer to have everyone get in a hit or two, do the critical, then have folks charge an R2 while it's invincible
Your first tip is great for fighting lobsters and giant archers on horseback. Those aimbot snipers keep knocking me off my horse
Try blocking the strongest hits with a 2h shield heavy attack
It worked on previous souls games and it's severely underrated
Maybe it works in Elden Ring too
Two handing a greatshield with Barricade Shield is pretty good
Re: the "golden leaf shower" weather effect: Since putting in the SEEKERS group password for Vaati's group, I've noticed the showers coincide with a prompt stating that a shardbearer has been defeated. It also seems to trigger more frequently... I guess it's a huge group, so shardbearers go down a lot. I think they can occur at any time of day, too.
That’s sick
Yup, when someone from your group beats a main boss everyone in the group gets a Rune boost (I think around 10% which isn't bad at all)
Yeah the SEEKERS group seems to be huge. I get a lot of those buffs and I see a ton of group specific signs. Iron Pineapple should start a group as well!
Oh that's why I have that weather effect so often! Thanks! I thought it was a bug or something. :D

@@charleyweinhardt you can always fast travel in and out of the underworld, there's a button to select different layers on the map. I forgot which one, but it says on your map after you find the first underground map piece.
here is some tip for next vid :
- bleed, poison and forst do damage in % of max hp.
- when you guard break an enemy the place where you do the most damage with a critical hit is shown with an orange light
- fieldbosses don't regenerate hp when they reset.
THE MAIDEN IN THE ROUND TABLE GIVES YOU A 5% PERMANENT HP DEBUFF, MAKE SURE TO REMOVE IT BY USING THE "BLESSING"
Well, not really permanent, since using the blessing and resting removes it
The blessing gives you a fuck load of poise tho. It's 100% worth it. Also she tells you about the debuff
OMG So that's where that was from!! 30+ hours in and I hadn't figured that out. THANK YOU.
Isn't the orange light just showing where the critical is? I've never tried to pull off a visceral on a giants knee caps cause I'm 100% sure you can't 😆
That hug is worth minus 5% hp
accidentally learned about crouch attacks, i cannot emphasize how useful this is especially with colossal swords that have a thrust move. since all your moves are slow and heavy, the thrust attack is arguably the most useful attack, so being able to initiate it outside of rolling is super good!
Group "Penis" regularly gets the buff. Just a heads up.
There’s the group “Guidance” which had a lot of people killing the shard bearer, about every 5 minutes.

8:42 I actually like to assign both tear flasks on puch, so I don't have to cycle my items to heal / restore FP, even if you can jump to first, you still waste more time holding the button and chugging or holding the button, cycling to desired item and chugging than it does to just click pouch binding
A small detail I've found about switching weapons on horseback:
You know how it's good to two hand your weapon before going horseback, so that you get the strength increase from two handing?
@@mkv2718 I wouldn't go past 125, that's likely where PvP will stay, later
@@Genasidal I'll still wait and see. I'm still about 30 levels off from 125 and I'm getting towards endgame
Things like the "rain affects damage" or "fire damage makes bomb enemies explode" is why Fromsoft makes the best games. Such tiny details that barely change anything, but From goes the extra mile to care about it. Makes the world feel so much more alive and in-depth
That stuff was all in Breath of the Wild as well, I think I read that Elden Rings used some elements of BOTW for inspiration
This has been a thing since the original Dark Souls in 2011. The water thing didn't come until the 2nd game.
The poison thingy is from ds 2's mechanics
Great content. I’m a souls veteran and these tips really helped plus perfectly spoiler free!
The crouching attacks just seem to be the attacks you do after rolling, just stationary of course
So if those look good you know what to expect, knowing the moveset of your weapons is very important
Also a good tip for those that don't know (if it wasn't mentioned already):
The angle of the camera can affect the attack animation, when it looks up your attacks swing more up, this is really good when some attacks go over small enemies heads, what you do is stop locking on and swing with your camera looking to the ground. It's annoying but it generally works and with weapons that have thrust attacks it's good to hit certain enemy parts (like the head)
works good for the glowing skulls
For the longest time I was just randomly running around trying to find them but it turns out they are always on the map (as long as you've explored enough of an area to clear the mist on the map)
he has that in his previous video
That's not a trick or hidden mechanic
@@Yikeo Neither is the fact that mines are marked on the map. Neither is the pouch. Are you gonna criticize those too?
Your shitting me
The clip at the very end reminded me of something: if you see a roaming caravan with a chest, you don't need to kill all the enemies to open it. You can't open the chest while the caravan is in motion, but if you knock the giants dragging it a couple times to get them to stop moving, you can swoop around back and open the chest and get out quickly with your horse!
You can also shoot a sleeping arrow on one of the giants to stop the caravan
You can also just walk near them lol
My favorite new mechanic is being able to write fort, night as a message
The weather changes affect your character as well. Your lightning resist goes way down and fire resistance goes up in the rain.
i didn't know it affected your character thanks!

Best horse weapon I've found so far, imo.
this works with most weapons, as long as the sword is realistically close it will hit with heavies during charge
I've enjoyed doing it with the halberd, it usually knocks enemies into the air

Little tip usefull in the beginning, when you go around, especially with torrent, you'll encounter a lot of shiny skulls on the ground, they always give you a little usable rune, wandering around you'll collect a lot in no time.
I'm 48 hours into this game and just learned that there is a running R2 attack that is unique for each weapon. This game just keeps giving.
Now, your suggestion form the last video works for this aswell (hold down for a short time) but I found that I'm a bit faster with Y+arrow.
great idea !!!
probably true for controller but for mouse and keyboard the default binding is E+Arrow key. hHaling like that wouldn't be viable as you have to take your hand off the mouse and therefore can't block or attack until your hand goes back. Even summoning horse mid fight can even be a bit tricky.
physick aswell! ...and summon maybe
If you can manage the small ones around it you can also farm runes pretty efficiently, each drop a bit over 5k and don't have breath attacks.

I've fallen in love with 2 handing my lordsworn's shield. It makes fighting some enemies an absolute breeze. Definitely worth trying out.
So you hit them with your shield as well to kill them?
Another tip I personally have after experimenting that I have seen incorrectly stated on articles that you kind of demonstrate here, you don't need a shield at all to guard counter. As long as you block in some way followed by a heavy attack, the guard counter will happen. If you try to do this with a weapon (I.e. you're two-handing, we all know you are doing it, samurai players), you will probably want heavier armor and more health to reduce the damage ratio as much as possible, but it is possible.
One of the best videos to find for elden ring hands down on youtube after 200 hours play :D
The heavy attack while dodging tip was an absolute mind blower mate, never woulda thought !

@@NATT441 The crystal arrows are MADE for this (they are really loud)... I kept trying to figure out why I would want a crappy broken crystal arrow...
It really helped me to realize that touching them doesn't alarm them. Since the backstab area is so close and can be difficult to judge on enemies of different sizes, just sprint crouch all the way to running into them and then stabby stabby
One tip that I noticed is that certain spells are more effective when on your horse
Been maining the visage great shield as a primary weapon 2 handed. Can confirm, its very viable. Hits like a truck and blocks like a champ.
