  • Ibanez has created an amazing guitar at an incredible value! In this 10 minute video I’m going to run through the high end features and articulate and low end crunch from these quantum pickups! The New Ibanez RGA42FM is a sick guitar that has an exceptional tone and a excellent feel of comfort! I’ve heard about these and had to have one, you be the judge if this guitar is for you. Thank you for viewing and remember to Like and Share and please subscribe to see what’s next to come!
    Signal chain: Ibanez rga42fm solid mahogany body, flame maple top all stock with Quantum pickups, running into a Mooer Diezel Hagen preamp pedal going through an Orange Dark Terror with a Egnater rebel 1X12 cabinet with a Celestion Elite 80 speaker.
    All Music written and performed by Greg Campbell. With the exception of a quick Killswitch Engaged riff. Don’t steal my music 🙂 and enjoy the tones of this amazing guitar!

    I got one of these for half price, guy got it brand new and sold it 5 days later to me as he wanted to move it quickly to get an acoustic. I'm very impressed with the tone, I'd record an album with this guitar exactly how it is, no pickup change. The pickups sound very good to me. I will say, being a brand new guitar the fret work is a little dodgy. Has got some high frets, will have to get it leveled but aside from that issue I think it's a great guitar.
    Also, great playing. Quite a good demo of what this guitar can sound like with a good setup.

      is the RG421 better than this one? They look so similar

    • @streetwiserhapsody
      @streetwiserhapsody 4 года назад

      @@eddiespectral No, the RG421 is okay for rock, jazz and blues but for really high gain stuff, you don't really hear those chugs and note separation. The pick ups are decent but not good for modern metal, however it does have a rounder sound so it's good for leads. I got the RGA42FM a few months and it's definitely a better guitar.

      Bring me Peter pan It’s definitely a killer guitar! If you play metal I’d recommend installing Seymour Duncan Alpha and Omega set. EMG makes excellent pickups too, however the mahogany body really shows its fangs in the tone using passive pickups. Active pickups maybe very bright. Thank you brother!!! 🤝🎸🗝🔥

    Thanks for this! I just tested this out today and it was one of the loveliest guitars to play, so light and easy to
    Manoeuvre. My only fear was the low end and if it could chug, but this was playing off a little practise amp in the shop. I usually play off a telecaster with bare knuckle pickups set to drop C for a emo/post hardcore sound but wanted another style and think this could work. The high strings and octaves sound amazing and seems like maybe with an EMG or Bareknuckle pickup this could really chug whilst still feeling so light and easy!

    • @AngryTonesRiffClips
      @AngryTonesRiffClips  5 лет назад

      Alex Mills Thank you. I’m glad you like playing this guitar. Ibanez really hit the nail on the head with this one. Even the Quantum pickups sound excellent through a high gain Tube Amplifier like I’m running in this video. Bare Knuckles are great too. I’ve since installed my personal favorite which are the Seymour Duncan Omega bridge humbucker. If you really want to chug with depth, Bite, and series controlled articulate riffing check those pickups out. 🔥🤝🔥

    • @murderface15g13
      @murderface15g13 6 лет назад +1

      I'm very impressed with the Quantum pickups. The clarity and harmonic overtones are out of this world for stock pickups. I honestly don't think I would change the pickups. I wouldn't do a hipshot because the holes do not align with the bridge that I would replace it. I would install locking tuners and graphtech string saver saddles instead of replacing the bridge. Hell, I'm blown away by this guitar as a whole and I own a Carvin DC 727.

    Yeah man sounds great and looks great, Greg im wanting to learn how to play so im looking at guitars and this does have some nice value I mean the woods are perfect the finish is sweet and those frets are insane! So what if I wanted like a classic rock sound and I put like a JB & 59 in this would it work and sound more classic rock ? Thanks David!!!

    • @AngryTonesRiffClips
      @AngryTonesRiffClips  6 лет назад +1

      David trueslayor Yes Sir! It’s a extremely well built guitar! Now for a classic rock tone I highly recommend the “whole lotta” Humbucker from Seymour Duncan the JB is an excellent choice too with 59 neck but it’s a very hot pickup for metal too, which is why I recommend more of a PAF Tone JB is what Dave Mustaine used on many early Megadeth albums. I’d even suggest the Seymour Duncan Alnico II Pro Humbucker that ones phenomenal too! Hope this helps!

  • @ericnessler9586
    @ericnessler9586 6 лет назад +2

    Greg, your tone sounds fantastic. My Quantums sound a bit muddy, do you know where your pickup height was set un-fretted?

    • @AngryTonesRiffClips
      @AngryTonesRiffClips  5 лет назад +1

      Eric Nessler Thank you! I’ve since replaced the Quantum’s with Seymour Duncan Alpha & Omega bridge. Height to me is a personal preference so to be honest I don’t know the measurements but it took about an hour to adjust to where the tone was perfect to my ear. If it helps the neck pick up is about a quarter flush with the body whereas the bridge is about half way exposed above the body. You don’t want it to high as the gauge of strings differ in some of my music and tuning changes can get a magnetic pull from strings. 🤝

      @@AngryTonesRiffClips yea! Definitely...i had to adjust my tone as the maple provides what ive always added in via presence and treble. I love that upper mid and treble area. I like bass but for me its more needed jamming alone to feel wider frequency. I used to be a scooped mesa lover(dont judge lol) but i saw nonpoint live in the early 2000s and their original guitar player had one of those original double cut prs se guitars. He used 5150s and a few xxx amps and his tone was the craziest shit ive ever heard. Lots of treble and mids...it just growled and had this dangerous sounding decay if he let a chord ring. That changed my fucking life! I immediately went home and turned all the knobs on the amp away from scooped. His tone is still my favorite to this day. I had a bogner uberschall and it was too advanced for me. My gear budget exceeded my abilities. It sounded great but ive settled into a mesa stiletto deuce as my amp of choice. Great review. So, would you say that it is worth getting the Iron label RGA when compared to the value at this price point? I'm on the fence between buying this one now or saving up. I would really like to upgrade the bridge to a hipshot HM, but that can't be done on the RGA42 without drilling more holes in the body. So, what's your opinion on that?

    • @AngryTonesRiffClips
      @AngryTonesRiffClips  6 лет назад

      Set Abominae I say go with what feels right for you. The bridge on this guitar works perfectly fine and actually works well with the tones of mahogany. I replaced the bridge humbucker for a Custom shop Seymour Duncan Omega pickup being that I needed a much tighter bass and higher midrange gain response. Iron label or not most RGA series are all fantastic Indonesian builds. Go for what feels good to play!

    • @murderface15g13
      @murderface15g13 6 лет назад

      Greg Campbell Thanks for the feedback. I've played this RGA at the local shop and it had me coming back for more. I'm a JB fan. So if I replaced the bridge it would be with that or a black winter. I'm pretty happy with the stock bridge pickup. It's very well balanced. However I wouldn't swap the neck pup for an air Norton or something with a little more color. In the mean time, I'll just swap the tuners for the gold and black Planet Waves locking set and maybe install a graph Tech ghost piezo system. Ibanez really pulled no punches with this guitar. For the price it is a superior build with great style. This is my favorite Ibanez since the S520ex. Thanks for the demo buddy.

This is an extremely versatile combination that covers all spectrums of Metal! 59 neck for all those beautiful solos that just sustain for days and that custom 5 bridge for metal chugs from hell that are tight, articulate, and sound pissed! Thank you for enjoying this video 🙂

    I am considering this to be my second guitar. Is it good value for somewhat of a beginner? I currently have a Cort CR100, fantastic value LP style guitar, but I'm looking for something new - although I figured a Floyd Rose floating bridge would be overkill for me. (I play in several different tunings also.) Are the lower frets easily accessible?
    Or should I just go for something with EMGs? I saw affordable Corts with active pickups. I play lots of metal sooo yeah.

    • @AngryTonesRiffClips

      Mad King What’s up my friend. Yes Schecter makes amazing guitars too, I played them for years and at one point owned 4 of them. My favorite was the Schecter Blackjack series. It’s all about comfort and feel though. Schecter is very similar in my opinion to ESP Ltd and Ibanez is going to be a bit lighter and definitely has a faster, thinner neck, and more flat fret board. That’s great for fast leads and rhythm work. Try them and see what works best for you. Thank you for enjoying this guitar review! I look forward to hearing which one you will choose. 🤝🎶🔥

      Saph K Hey there, first off Thank you for enjoying my playing, that’s a huge compliment to say you loved it! Second yes the guitars are both fantastic however for metal playing I chose the RGA42FM over the 421AHM for these reasons: AHM is a Ash body sometimes to twangy, also has pickup rings going around them I prefer direct body mounting, then there’s the 42FM which has Mahogany body with direct mounting pickups and its slightly heavier in weight which gives it a strong chug in the low end. Enjoy your new guitar. I’d love to hear which direction you go.
