Thanks Gary. The push/pull sets were sometimes hauled as normal coaches when baby GMs (141/181s) or 071 locos were used as they hadn't the ability to operate in push/pull mode. There was a severe coach shortage on the network at the time and anything was liable to show up. Single 121s had push/pull capabilities but were not powerful enough for a full rake on a long distance service. The 201s were used for a short period in this mode which saved time avoiding a loco runaround in Kilkenny.
Thanks Adrian, happier times indeed. I captured from the original camcorder (Sony FX-400E Video8) via a Hauppauge USB Live-2 converter, denoised in VirtualDub with Neat Video's plugin, deinterlaced and doubled the framerate using QTGMC. Compiled and subtitles added using PowerDirector.
Some particularly good 071 class sounds in this one. I presume the Mk 3 push-pull stock wasn't compatible with the 071s, hence why it was coupled in front?
Wonderful Collection of Scenes from the Good Years Danny!😃.Were the 2600 Class DMU Trains used on any other Train Services apart from the Waterford Train Services and the Kildare Town Commuter Train Services?.
@@Newtownabbeyist208 Maybe in the future I will. In the meantime I'll prob be putting my efforts into restoring my 8mm footage from the 90s, have a lot more to upload.

@@Newtownabbeyist208 I've been trying to contact Seán to no avail the past few years. Used to meet with him often. Seems to have lost all interest in the railways unfortunately.
Do you know anyone who has. The Reason I'm asking is because I actually remember them MK3 Coaches and Craven's. The Mk3s were used on InterCity Routes such as Tralee-Dublin. And I think the Craven's operated the Tralee to Mallow service.
And I remember that anytime a Train arrived at Killarney either from Tralee or Mallow it had to Reverse either into the Station (Mallow) or reverse onto the Headshunt (Tralee)

@@James-ih4gz That's correct, the air braking is the main problem, wasn't sure about their heating setup. Although a very comfortable coach you do wonder would it be a popular coach for railtours though. The Cravens and Mk2s with their dropdown windows and B4 bogies have more atmosphere about them.
Excellent nostalgia! Some of that track out in the countryside looks as though it hadn't seen a weedsprayer train that spring!
Loved the sound of those locos. Could hear them for miles!
Great stuff Danny !
Amazing footage Danny and beautiful weather!😁Keep up the good work!

Nice shots dan
I'd say that train on Friday 13th was fairly empty, because people would be afraid to go anywhere that day, unless it was to work
Great shots Danny :)
Very nice video!
Fantastic videos.. subbed and can't wait to see more :)
Any ideas why the push pulls were hauled at the "wrong" end??

0:02 why is it called Killarney crossing when Thomastown is 122 miles from Killarney?
There's more than one Killarney in the Republic!
The line looks so different then
Do you have any other videos of Legan Thomastown level crossing?
Nothing recent but might have some more from the 90s that I've to get around to yet.

Why was it called a Dutch van and when did they enter service? Thanks.
They were built in Dundalk in 1969 with parts supplied from the Dutch firm Werkspoor in Utrecht hence the nickname.
Have to say in some ways Irish rail are taking better care of the tracks now i think.
That goes without saying, track condition in the 90s was in general extremely poor, bordering on dangerous.

The railways started with steam locos, then onto diesel locos, now no locos.
Pity the mk 3s could of seen service for at least another few years. Hopefully rpsi snatch a few before there gone forever
