One of the best videos on U-tube because it was taken in a time when it was possible to travel in with the driver. Wonderful to see if from the drivers angle. May Tony Renehan now rest in peace and be rewarded for the great job he did over many years.
Great video with the late Tony Renehan . The bogie noise is quite evident , it was terrible for a long time and they seem better now. Soundproofing was put in the cabs after a time.
Hi Tom,hope your enjoying your well deserved retirement from a fellow Corkonian living in Dublin over 30 yrs now, yourself and Tony would have brought me to cork and back many's the time when i was visiting the homestead, what year did Tony retire and pass away god be good to him and by the way I'm a newcomer to the train video scene and enjoying them immensely, cheers,Paddy.
How short the platforms in Portarlington, among others, were back then. No such thing as push/pull locomotive option either for that train. Track speed was so much slower and all those level crossings have been removed. Now this line is going to be prepared for 200km/h speeds with works starting next year. We're starting to have the bones of a first class rail network. Great to look back at how things were.
Tony was a master of his craft, a true railwayman. May he RIP

Tony was a great Railway Man and a wealth on knowledge. A gentleman in and out of the job.

A true Gent and very knowledgeable of the railway and also willing to share that fascinating knowledge .
Wow, what a fantastic video!!!! I was lucky enough as a child to ride shotgun on the enterprise briefly!! Love ireland and irish rail!!!
Great commemoration of Dublin to Cork route. So much is changed as I am on this line almost every day 🙂
Wonderful video! Thanks for sharing.
thanks very much for uploading
Nice that he sounded the horn entering the tunnel, to warn anyone working inside.
Sounds like the equivalent to an SD70M-2/SD75i prime mover.
12 cylinder 710
Beautiful diesel GM
Great video.
Beautiful sounding loco, shame most of them are rotting at Inchicore now
Why are they rotting away??
Is there not enough work for them all 👍
Most were scrapped
No they will be back in traffic again soon they are been refurbished into electric locomotives
@@bob-seek-destroy-sd1708 Link to the plans
That's a 201 class dude. They're still in service either on this route or the enterprise train to. Belfast.
Great footage🚅👍👌🍀
Excellent footage, any chance you would upload the full video?
Would much prefer a two tone horn, as the sound could be interpreted as a truck.
It's unfortunate that it's so hard to hear what they are saying. I don't say that as a criticism though, merely an observation.
😍😊👍
Very similar to british infrastructure, same signals and dummies etc.
Railway gauge is different in Ireland though.. Its 5ft 3.
@@nigelmurphy6761 Thanks Nigel, I didn’t know that.
@@exb.r.buckeyeman845 no probs.
Looks like a poor country!
All you could see was tracks and stations. Couldn’t judge a whole country on that.
As compared to where?
Well it is a kip.
Yeah it's changed a fair bit since.
You're wrong. It's the economic hub of Europe
why was he not wearing a uniform??? very unprofessional of him but great video otherwise
Ireland is not a professional country, you hardly see the conductor anyways.
What is the purpose of a uniform? Professionalism is about service and doing your job well.
