The crew chit chat is what makes these videos!!!!!!!! It's nice to hear people happy and having a bit of banter and craic! I think it's against the rules now!

I used to work this route on the dining car in 1977. Back then it was hauled by double-headed single cab Class 121s. It was 60-70 mph more or less throughout, regardless of the official limit 😉! On the sharp curves alongside the canal, the cups and saucers would be flying! Used to also work the Galway mail via Mullingar and Moate through Connolly all the way down to Dun Laoghaire pier. Very tight confines in that old station, barely enough room for the Class A to do the turnaround. Memories of a different time indeed.....

Yes they were the days when it was a pleasure to work the trains. Then health and safety took over. Thanks for watching and hope you enjoyed the video.

Eire of the 90's. A country that doesn't exist anymore. Great video, passed some places where I walked and grew up (Ashtown). Nice to see the perspective from the cab, always loved hearing and seeing the 071s roar past, always got a wave from the drivers.

There's nothing that brings more nostalgia than the sound of these 071's I grew up hearing go by me in the 90's in Leixlip. Could hear them coming for miles at nighttime when they were doing the freight runs. Still can hear some pass by my job in Limerick at times. Funny to see on video what Leixlip Confey looked like in 1998 with the platform inbetween Cope bridge and only a single track - only blurry memories remain! Love the video's cheers Gerry!

Another excellent video Gerry, thank you.
That was only a quarter of a century ago and although there was some on-track litter, there were very few graffiti.
The trackwork in an around Maynooth station seemed to be especially decrepit though CWR would be laid soon after, and of course doubling between Maynooth and Clonsilla would also follow.
When I go up the Roxboro Road on my way to work some mornings, I can hear the Limerick Station pilot (074?) idling with intent and I hope the 071s reach the half century in 2026.
