  • Built by GS&WR, Inchicore Works, Dublin, 1902. In 1991 the Managing Director of Irish Rail took the decision to put the coach under cover, dry it out, and see if it could be restored. In 1995 the RPSI was successful in arranging with Irish Rail to borrow the vehicle on long term loan, and the Society commenced restoration helped by FAS the Employment and Training Authority and a number of sponsors. in Dublin to carry out the work, under the supervision of a skilled craftsman who had worked on the vehicle when in railway company use.
The work was completed in early 2000 in Inchicore works with the coach being certified to mainline standard.

Great video. Beautiful craftsmanship altogether. Love the off-camera complaints about the heat!

Beautiful and cosy in the end. A world of its own. Film is unfortunately quite dark. - The water transfer enblem reminds me of my grandfather's time and my youth. We called it "Abziehbild". It came with flowers, angels and many more. Quite different from later "Abziehbilder" which were stickers without any water application and often just served companies' promotion.

Hi thanks for your comment. Yes it was dark at the beginning and nothing I could do about it. The emblems on the carriage was hand painted and no transfers were used. Thanks for watching

@@gerryconmy Hey Gerry - as far as I could understand, the numbers 351 were handpainted. But them emblems...?

Oliver. Thinking back a long time ago yes you are correct they were obtained from the RPSI .Numbers were hand painted by a retired member of Dublin fire service. The coach was first in Broombridge belonging to FAS. The premises was small, it was then transported to Inchicore. Again you were correct.
