  • @Dylan_Scott
    @Dylan_Scott 4 дня назад

    Dog rocks have definitely helped us. People need to understand there's rarely a silver bullet and it takes a multidisciplinary approach to really make something work.
    Our girl has wreaked havoc on our previous property's lawn. So much so that in winter (S.E Queensland's drier period), it effectively killed off the entire lawn becaus there wasn't enough healthy lawn remaining to spread back.
    In the new place we accidently delayed using pet rocks. We got about a half dozen burn spots. But after that first week we got the dog rocks in and we've been here for about 5 weeks now and still only have those same initial burns. We DO however, see the large dark green areas where she's still weeing, and no burn marks.
    There's some strong lessons in the use of dog rocks:
    1. They are NOT recovery tool, they're preventative. If your lawn is too hammered like ours was, dont expect any miracle return of your coverage.
    2. It takes time, the water needa to interact with the rocks so try to avoid letting your dog dive in to a freshly filled water bowl.
    3. They are sensative to the water:rock ratio - you have to make sure you have enough rock to interact with the water (too much water and too little rock and it wont have the desired effect).
    And yeah.. i guess 4. All of the other above points you've mentioned (watering/diluting) particularly first pee of the day would help. Ill try train her to pee in a special spot but all I can imagine happening is she'll just wander around trying to move away from where I want her.

    I love my neighbor, but he lets his 14yr old dog out at night and time and time again I see pee spots in the morning I didn't see the afternoon before. I put my proplugger to work, it repairs damaged spots instantly, it's a must have for lawn lifers.

    • @irinasharomova2267
      @irinasharomova2267 3 года назад

      How does it help? You just have to reseed anyway. Right? And we can’t control the dog at the backyard all the time. 😒😒

    • @jjtcb7509
      @jjtcb7509 3 года назад

      You could go both ways, i chose to go with proplugger since it matches current turf the most much faster, seeding is good but it takes long time to mature, requires more attention and my neighbor dog tends to go back to the same spot again killing it, ugh.

    I have zoysa in NW Florida. I've had good luck with using pelletized lime several times a year. It's applied lightly to the areas where my 3 dogs urinate. As long as I do this several times a year, the grass does well. If I skip a season or two, the grass will burn and die. Then I have weeks to compound the problem.

    For creeping grasses like zoysia, If you put sand on dog urine spots, the grass will grow over the sand and fill in in a couple of weeks. Same principal they use to repair divots on golf courses.

    I live in Canada and this last winter was brutal for pee spots, we have two dogs that total over 300 lbs in combined weight so we deal with a bunch of pee during the winter months. Usually have snow on the ground constant for almost 6 months out of the year and the pee has nowhere to go. Spring time hits and it all melts, lost half of our back yard this year alone. We fixed it just like you showed but I’m afraid it can’t be established in time for this winter and we lose even more this winter. Might have to buy sod from here on out 🤞

    Good info!! I like to plug most of the time , especially if using a rotory mower, as to not accidentally blow all the seed and mulch out before it takes root, with reel type mower not really an issue, also you can add a little annual ryegrass in the seed mix for quick coverage , the perennial grass seed will take it over , might notice a little texture difference only neg

    i got sick of dog pee spots and just ended up keeping the grass at highest mower setting which is prob 4 inch
    no more spots, doesn't have the look of short grass but it grows on you. Im in cool season so with long grass don't have to worry about missing water, dont have to worry about sun skorching it, no more dog pee spots.
    However missing a mow is brutal, grass grows really quick here and since the mower is maxed out, you end up cutting too much to do mulching so you have alot of bagged clippings to move back and forth. Going to try to lower it down to 3 and see if that still works.

    I think the marking the spot and watering is the best solution because if those rocks in the dog's water work, you are creating a health issue with the dog. When you reduce the acid in their food, they cannot digest the food properly, then you have a much bigger issue. Thanks for all the grass tips, though. I do have a question about St. Augustine grass. From watching a couple of your videos, I have been doing everything wrong, and I have recently noticed this beige colored stuff on the tips of my grass that come off very easily. I have no idea what it is. Any idea?

    Dog rocks? This is new to me, but I'll try anything at the moment. I live in an apartment complex, and there are several of us that have limited space to walk our dogs. (My dog is paper trained, but he likes to get out for fresh air and a walk.) We have brown dead spots, and usually get warnings from the manager, so we've got to do something. Do you buy these rocks at a pet supply store like Petsmart? And, you put it in their water dish? What's it made of, and does it make the water taste different? Any help would be appreciated! 🙂

    I kick on the sprinklers for 10 minutes after the dog does his business. Having an app that controls my sprinklers has been awesome.

    I have used Brewers Yeast in my dogs food (1/4 to 1/2 tsp) per feeding. It helps to cut down on the nitrogen in their urine. The draw back of using Brewers Yeast is some dogs can get a UTI. My Veterinarian has told me to use it as long as it works.

    I can conform my little 10lb boy burns the lawn. I do like you and mark a spot with a rock or golf ball and blast it with H20. If I could only train him to pee in a sprayer bottle and fertilize the whole lawn...

    my old rott that passed away didnt cause burn spots. we have nothing in our yard to pee on so he just peed on the grass. his poop also degraded within a week and i never had to clean it up. there was literally only 2-3 piles at a time ever, without having to pick it up.
    my new rott however burns the hell out of the grass, i chalk that up to drinking less water and having more concentrated urine (visibly). not sure though.
    and his poop never degrades and i'm forced to clean it up.
