Wow, great panel. Your flying will be easier and less fatiguing. I hope you have your instrument rating. Enjoy your travels! I’m going for a similar upgrade to my 1947 v tail bonanza soon. I started in GA-pa28-140 54 years ago. Did airlines for 40 years, retired 4 years ago at age 65.
Thanks for the comment! Got LOTS of content coming down the pipe- including a video about living in this private strip! Stay tuned. It's a one-man operation over here with the video editing.. but I should have more videos out before the end of the month. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the comment! You'll love the new panel. Definitely found a lot of use from the density altitude reading and also engine monitoring! NEXRAD weather is a huge plus too. Enjoy it
@@seanair4573 Great! How much did the whole system cost you plus installation? Would be great to see a breakdown. I can imagine how much money you saved by not going the Garmin G3X way!
Sorry for the long wait! I grabbed a brochure at the Dynon tent this week at OshKosh. I’d say that their pricing structure is spot on for the values we purchased. To save you some time, I can summarize.. We bought two of the larger 10” screens ADS-B traffic and weather Mode-S transponder with 2020-Compliant ADS-B Out Dedicated Knob Panel SkyView Network Cables Engine Monitoring 4 cylinder configuration IFR connectivity kit (for the IFD 440) Autopilot C172 … all as advertised, roughly $27K for all Dynon components. Add another $13K for the IFD-440 COM/NAV/GPS As for installation and shop fees, I’d rather just say that Saint Aviation gave us a quote and stuck right to it! So when you email him for a quote, know that you can trust it! And you could expect probably a 5 or 6 week turn around if all goes well with the installation, but don’t let me speak for the shop. Best to call ahead and have a friendly chat. Hope this helps!
@@seanair4573 Great! Thanks for getting back to us on that. Enjoy your beautiful airplane. Just out of curiosity, what did they charge for installation? Thanks!
I love the Dynon Skyview from what I've seen of them. Pretty reasonably priced too for glass. I think last I saw a skyview package started out at like 25k for a 172.
Yes, the HDX is a very reasonable price considering all the versatility and amenities. Strong performer in the glass panel market. Definitely clean presentation and intuitive design. Thanks for your comment!
I normally do not make comments on videos but all I have to say is WOW! Great production and even better information on the Dynon Skyview HDX. How this doesn't have more views is beyond me. Keep up the great work!
Great video ..just finished a Garmin g3x upgrade…similar to yours. I looked at the dynon gear and it looked great…only issue was finding A Dynon guy … so we went with the Garmin…. One here in our backyard. It makes it a new plane… less stress… safer You will love it… I know I do.
I really enjoyed your video. We own a Piper Arrow, N32693, and i am shopping/wondering about the replacement of the NARCOs, and the Steam Gauges. The panel is in great shape, and the situational awareness that you get from the 1970s technology has kept many pilots safe. BUT, i feel that the glass is really the better way to go. I spend all day looking at screens while at work. (I work as a Database Administrator) After, 20 years of making a living by understanding what i am looking at on the screens, the rectangular glass panel just feels like a better platform on which to present what we need as pilots. The software configuration that lets you change the Screens (User Interface) is just the better way to go. I really found your video helpful. We are in Northern California, KOAR/KSNS/KWVI (a hanger at KOAR), and I hope i can find an installer, and technician as capable as the team you found in Florida. Please upload more, i am eager to learn all that i can about the Dynon install, and how you configure and use the Dynon products.
Thank you for such a nice comment Brian! I have traveled to California with work. Hopefully you find some nice folks out there! The Piper Arrow is a fine aircraft! I have a few hours in some from my CFI days. Got a lot of content coming down the pipe soon (hopefully). I’ve been so busy flying and filming, the video editing has played second fiddle until now. I think I’ll get a few videos out before Osh Kosh though! Stay tuned and thanks for the sub!
Just curious I am looking at the Dynon upgrade. I see this is 3 years in. Can you give an update on your thoughts. Do you still like it? Did the shop do a good job?
great video!you did a great job with your panel you'll enjoy it, I just purchased a Comanche 260B and I'm planning on going the same route, how long did it take to get it done?
Thanks! Congrats on the new purchase! You’re going to love it so much! Well I wont speak for the folks at Saint Aviation because I don’t want to put them on the spot! But I’ll say that at the time, we had about a 2 month wait for our appointment- nowadays, I think the wait is longer. Once they had the plane, Jesse told us to expect about 4-6 weeks to complete the panel. Our plane was ready in a little less than 5 weeks! The whole process was very transparent so I couldn’t be happier with the way it all turned out!
What great news. I am very hopeful that you may put your experience up to 'youtube'. I think that the Piper Comanche 260B is a great plane. We own an Arrow, and all things being even, without a doubt, and with the Dynon Glass panel, your plane is going to be better than anything available today. (my apologies to the folks who have dropped over 600K$ for the new planes, your in a world that i will probably never belong in. :) ) i wish you all the best.
First you did a great job with the video. Nicely produced. Second, Jesse is a great guy and his shop does good work. I have worked with him for years, maybe a decade or so. Third, well 3rd kinda sucks. Your airplane is unairworthy as it stands. If you were to crash or need an insurance claim for any reason they could deny it. The Dynon installation doesn’t meet the STC. I knew it the moment I looked at the beautiful panel. A ramp check would ground the airplane if the inspector knew his/her stuff. The D10a standby has two requirements as far as location goes. It must be as close as practical to the main screen. That would be just to the left as shown in the installation manual. The next requirement is that it be as high as possible in the panel. It is located as low as possible in the panel. Either one is a deal breaker. Some people think these are suggestions. A STC is giving you mandates, not suggestions. Sorry for the bad news. I know like this will be ignored and Jesse will probably say “It’s no big deal”. But I thought you should know the truth. Download and read the STC install manual and decide for yourself. It’s only one page of reading for the location requirements. I’m not picking on Jesse. Like I said, his shop does good work. But he is human and like all of us, we make mistakes. I know I’ve made more than my fair share.
Thanks for watching and also leaving a comment! I think that for general aviation and private use, just one Dynon SkyView HDX 11” screen would be more than sufficient (rather than two screens). And instead of that second screen, installing an iPad mount on the panel would be a valuable location rather than on a suction mount or kneeboard. Although- I’ll admit I hardly use the iPad now that we have this set up. I love the panel the way we have it and am very pleased with its functionality! After I released this video, we made another trip to Saint Aviation to upgrade our old GNC-300 GPS/COM into the Dynon COM radio. I would have probably chosen to do that sooner had I known how useful the new radio is as a workload reduction tool. Removing the GNC-300 freed up some panel space which also allowed us to finally move the standby EFIS (D10A) up to a more prominent location. While its original location was legal, it was a compromise on our original design due to the downward slope of the C172 panel near the firewall. We elected to install it low and in the center, originally, so it was still usable by both pilot seats. Now, it is high and in the center of the panel, which is a much more friendly location from a human factors standpoint. Part of the reasoning behind our decision to install two HDX screens was for resale value given the system’s competitive features when compared to the standard C172 glass panels in training aircraft, namely the Garmin G1000 suite. With our current arrangement, this aircraft is equipped for the next several years of owners, be they for professional use, private IFR use, or flight school use. That said, we are not planning on selling for many years, so we have many adventures to share still! I’m writing a future video to go into more detail about our decision making process on this old bird. Stay tuned and thanks for watching!
Enjoyed the video. Im looking to get nearly the same setup. With that being said, what was the final bill and how long did you have to wait to get in to get the work done?
love the upgrade Dynon & Avidyne ... enjoy & stay safe...

The ashtrays and cigarette lighters in these older planes always remind me of an past time. I'm glad we have mostly given up that habit.
