- We put a glass cockpit in our Cessna 172 six months ago and it transformed how we fly. The Dynon Skyview HDX is awesome!
I had a lot of people reach out requesting a follow-up after I posted the "Cessna 172 Panel Upgrade - Dynon Skyview HDX" video. This video shows how I fly Ginger's modern glass cockpit around the Pacific Northwest.
This isn't a big tutorial discussing every feature in the panel and how to use it in "advanced mode". There are a few great videos on RUclips already that do that, here are links to three I've found helpful:
@socalflyingmonkey - • Dynon HDX Panel Tour P...
@flyingdirty - • DYNON SKYVIEW HDX Pane...
@experimentalaircraftchannel - • Dynon Avionics HDX Pan...
You'll notice I don't use every button on every flight, I prefer to keep things as simple as possible. I'm a pleasure pilot and fly for the fun and pure joy of it. I hope you liked this "behind the scenes" video! :-)
As always, thank you for watching! If you enjoyed this video please subscribe, like the video and leave a comment. I appreciate your support, many thanks!

Well Done!!! Btw, love the music….. soothing!
Many thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed the video (and smooth jazz). 👍
I enjoyed the Dynon video!
Thanks Bob, appreciate that very much! Please subscribe to the channel. 👍
Hi Thomas congrats on your new panel....I too have a 1973 C-172M and just got my plane back from having a Dynon system installed...7inch HDX, auto pilot and engine monitor system. I completely enjoyed your video and hope you will post more as it is so helpful as I try to learn the Dynon system....thanks for you great post. Ken
Hi Ken, you’ll absolutely love your new panel! It’s very intuitive and easily learned though I’m picking up little tips and tricks all the time. My plan is to publish a “panel related video” every 8 weeks or so, much more to come. I’d love to hear more about your experiences, feel free to email me (Tom) at gingertheplane@gmail.com 👍✈️
correction 10 inch !!!
Thanks for the video. Looking forward to my new Dynon HDX!
You're very welcome, you'll be absolutely blown away by your Skyview HDX, it's that amazing!
Nicely done!
Many thanks! Appreciate it 👍
Would it be possible to have details on the iPad mount and size of the Skyview HDX - enjoying you channel, great presentation
Thank you for your kind words and welcome to Ginger’s channel!
The Skyview HDX on the pilot side is a 10”, and the latest panel 2.0 has a 7” on the right side. I use a iPad mini 5 in-panel mount from AirGizmo which is really nice and fits the stack perfectly!
Reach out to SixPackAero.com for more info on the instrument panel in Ginger. 👍👍
Enjoyed the video….. music can be distracting while trying to concentrate on the dynon panel. Thanks for sharing.
Glad you liked the video and thanks for your feedback on the audio level, it will help me to improve future videos! Greatly appreciated 👍
Awesome video! Thanks for sharing. I'm also looking to upgrade the panel of a C172M with the Dynon HDX. I came across your video and really enjoyed it. I will probably have the same setup but potentially with a second Dynon Skyview HDX display on the right side of the panel. But now that I see your config I am wondering if that will be overkill. A single HDX Screen looks sufficient now that I see it. What type of iPad and docking station did you install in the middle of the console? iPad Mini 6th generation 64GB WIFI + Mobile? Congrats and awesome job on both the panel upgrade and this video! 😀👍
Thank you, appreciate that very much! I’m very happy with the single display, there’s a lot to be said for having a second screen but for how I use it I simply didn’t need it. The iPad is a mini 5, with a 5G SIM card, GPS and 256GB though 64GB would have been perfectly good. I used a Guardian Mount with integrated USB charging port, it’s hard wired and charges the iPad. The mini5 integrates w/ the HDX via Wi-Fi and the 8000BT audio panel via Bluetooth, it’s really very easy to setup and works perfectly. Let me know what you end up doing with your 172M, I’m glad the video helps and wish you the very best!! 👍👍
And that is a very nice looking panel, to get what you got installed right now how much money is involved? By the way I like the nice easygoing music!
Thank you, William! As explained in the video there are several factors to consider regarding cost. It depends on the equipment chosen, labor rate of your shop, etc. Dynon has a great price calculator on their website, this will help start the process, here's a link: pricing.dynonavionics.com/
Just curious to why you went with dual Pitot system. Great video
The certified heated pitot tube on the left wing provides the primary info, the heated Dynon pitot on the right is solely for angle of attack. The Dynon pitot wasn’t certified as a primary source at the time of the installation, we will relocate it to the left position if that changes. Thanks for asking, much appreciated!
