    I'm an aspirational baron (=a poor player) and once, inadvertently, built a lettuce wall. I realised there was a trading opportunity with lettuce and bought 100 stacks @ 4 copper / per head then flooded the market with 100 stacks @ 10 copper / head. It caused an impenetrable wall of lettuce to remain on the exchange, as other traders accepted a slight reduction in profit and moved the "sell" to 9 copper. I did the right thing and took the hit by relisting a stack a day at 9 copper, helping to take down my own lettuce wall. This makes me both an incompetent but also ethical trader.

    Back in the day, when Mystic Coins were still cheap, we used to craft The Crossing and sell it on the Trading Post. Just had to run CoE dungeon everyday for the tokens. A friend and I were able to craft around 2-3 per week until we had enough funds for a Christmas Party raffle of a Legendary weapon and precursor for our guild.

      I made enough profit to craft astralaria, bolt, nevermore, chuka & champawat, and H.O.P.E.

    Very average player PoV here : GW2's economy is one of the healthiest i've seen in a game so far. Just by using 2 crafting professions for the daily crafts alongside some gameplay (Fractals/SPvP mostly) I've always sat on a healthy amount of gold and been able to craft whatever i want over time (Griffon/Skyscale, full set of Legendary Leather set, 3 legendary weapons etc) I actually love the absence of player to player trading as its always there that you end up in predatory situations. The scale of it makes it really hard for people looking to scam others or push for get rich schemes as one of the persons here explained and it all make sense. The value of everything is also fairly consistent and clear for the most part, personally there's nothing more that i hate than having to do half an hour of research to actually price something correctly whenever i find it in a game.
    There's still more than enough depth to it as well as if you have some business sense you can make a bit extra, such as buying specific mats at specific times, timing what you sell or buy with patches, deciding if you buy raw then refine mats or just straight refined, material upgrades with the Mystic Forge etc. but none of that affects other players negatively at all.
    I get that a lot of the complaints come from people who pushed these systems to its limit though... but honestly, i've yet to play a game that felt perfect in this situation in any way.

    I believe the same "buy wall" talked about in this video is also being implemented with superior sigils of force. Just 1 year ago those sigils were selling for about 4g each and then out of the blue an individual or individuals started dumping superior sigils of force on the TP at drastically lower prices. They drove the price of those sigils down to about 75 silver each and are letting it flux between 75s to about 1g 25s. The million dollar question is why? Is it to cause everyone to make less gold in trading for superior of force sigils?

    • @paulgotik
      @paulgotik 3 года назад +1

      it's not a pyramid scheme. In a pyramid scheme the person on top sells their items to the people on the bottom no matter if the the people on the bottom have sell their previous item or not. In this case he only sells them more if those other people have sould the previous items. They are not force to buy more items even if they can sell them.

    Something that MM might have forgotten is that what might have pushed him into slave Mastery trading is that at launch you had to have 100% world completion to get legendary weapons. Which is a huge gate for people, so he most likely had it and used that as a way to develop his slave factory. This probably started as a way to help out some friends and then expanded into a profit generating income. A great discussion of game mechanics and economy by the way! Thoroughly enjoyed it!

    I know this a year late but the constant reference about how having a TP value shown on hovering an item will "lag the game down" and "be so much extra calls to the market" but it really wouldn't, they do the same thing the 3rd party sites are already doing and have a cyclically updated average based on values that are already pulled and then put into a specific place for those calls to take place. That's not even mentioning the ways to make it not even need to be doing any calls other than the tooltip itself because that data can update for everyone on the tooltips using a prior hours data for example.. If doing it in game would "break the game" then the 3rd party sites would've already broken the game..

      Why do people have so
      Much difficulty understanding that the Trading Post IS part of the game?
      It’s like a mini game inside the game, and some people find it fun to play it and see how much they can win at it.
      These guys “play the actual game”, that’s how they get their starter gold, but even if all they did was play the trading post, they’re still playing “the actual game”.
      There are people who do almost nothing by but throw exotics into the mystic toilet to get precursors that they sell on the tp, and do almost nothing else.
      And they make THOUSANDS of gold a week.
      Are you going to bitch them out for not “playing the actual game”?
