  • Vocal Coach Reacts To Steel Dragon | We All Die Young | Ken Tamplin
Despite the fact that Steel Dragon was a fictitious band from the movie Rock Star, the music that was used for the film was iconic enough that we’re still talking about it today.
The artists behind the music in the film, included Zakk Wylde on guitar, drums by Jason Bonham and bass guitar by Jeff Pilson. The lead singers were Jeff Scott Soto, and Steelheart’s Miljenko Matijevic.
The movie is based off of an actual event that apparently happened to the band Judas Priest where an actual fan (Tim Owens) ended up becoming Rob Halford’s replacement as lead singer.
I’ll be reacting to the song “We All Die Young” which was written by Matijevic and Kenny Kanowski also of Steelheart. The song was originally released off Steelheart’s third album Wait and is covered by Steel Dragon in the movie.
Mark Wahlberg’s character Chris "Izzy" Cole sings Matijevic’s vocals for the song and puts on a pretty good performance.
I hope you all enjoy the video and please make sure to share your feedback!

At the end of the movie, Mark Wahlberg essentially "passes the torch" to another young eager vocalist - who happens to be a young Myles Kennedy; who obviously went on to sing for Alterbridge/Slash, etc!

I have been a singer since the 80s and it has always been a dream of mine to likewise be right in front of the stage at a Skid Row or queen’s Rych or Iron Maiden show blasting my voice and suddenly be invited on stage with the band and that’s why I immediately invested all my attention in this movie right from the beginning . Totally awesome 😎🤘🎸🎤🎼

I just watched that movie again the fact that Jason Bonham is on it is pretty cool George Clooney was one of the producers.
Mark Wahlberg did some great lip-synching all around just a fun movie.
The vocals were done really well.
Of course Zach Wylde his lead solos sounded like something off an Ozzy Osbourne album. His style is unreal.

This is a Steelheart song, from their third album I think (post-accident). The original version is slower and more melodic, while this version was made more catchy and aggressive to fit the style of the movie band; I gotta say both versions are amazing, each one with its own charm.
Also, this was recorded by the band itself, cause in the movie Steel Dragon are played by Zakk Wylde, Jason Bonham and Jeff Pilson. They recorded the Dragon songs written specifically for the film (like Stand up and shout, written by your cousin Sammy) and did covers of other songs like Long live rock and roll by Ronnie James Dio. Jeff Scott Soto and Matijevic did the vocals for their parts (Soto sang for the original vocalist of Steel Dragon who got replaced by Mark Wahlberg's character).

The script was inspired by the real-life story of Tim "Ripper" Owens, a singer in a Judas Priest tribute band who was chosen to replace singer Rob Halford when he left the band.

"We All Die Young" is a song by Miljenko Matijevic of Steelheart, and Kenny Kanowski formerly of Steelheart. It is the first song from the 1996 album Wait. The song was covered by the fictional band Steel Dragon in the 2001 film Rock Star, with Miljenko Matijevic on vocals, Zakk Wylde on guitar, Jeff Pilson on bass and Jason Bonham on drums. For the movie, Matijevic performed the vocals for Mark Wahlberg's character, Chris "Izzy" Cole.
In 2007, the song was covered by melodic metal band Eden's Curse for their self-titled debut album.

I also hear Miljenko!. The killer guitar parts are none other than Zakk Wilde. Recognize his playing instantly. Totally agree... a time where you rarely see music beyond ambient soundtrack, and is so good that stays with you. When I watched the movie had to look up that song on RUclips to hear it separately right when I saw that sequence. That's how powerful the song turned out.

This movie is loosely based on how Tim “ripper” Owens got his spot in Judas Priest in the 90s. Also if there are any Steel Panther fans here, Michael Starr is the singer auditioning for Steel Dragon right before Mark Walberg’s character auditions.
