- Nestor Hernandez's ex-girlfriend, Selena Villatoro, was called to the stand on the first day of the trial. Villatoro had just given birth at the time of the shooting. She described the moments leading up to Hernandez allegedly shooting two healthcare workers at Methodist Dallas Medical Center.

I cannot believe the judge would allow all that noise going in in that coirtroom.
Right. They need to ensure that everyone is quiet so all questions and testimonies are clearly heard, and they need to place the mic closer to their mouths.

There was no question of his guilt he said it was accidental. He got on the stand himself to testify which apparently kept him from the death penalty. He got a life sentence. His defense worked!

The way the defending attorneys are trying to try to make her the cause of him doing this is ridiculous.

She knew what she was doing, she knows this man since she was 16 and has been incarcerated for her crimes with him. She knew telling him the baby isn't his would pull at his ego, she taunted him and didn't think of how he could react. Even listen to the body cam footage she pleads for his life after having killed two ppl Infront of her and hitting her on the head and threatening her baby. Face it this lady was in a toxic relationship and she would choose him over anybody. These type of women are the type that put the man above their own children and morals.
She was lien about her knowingly bringing a gun inside the hospital inside her bag. Referring to one of the victims , she said THAT LADY all she seemed to care about is her baby daddy. And she had an attitude the entire time

She may have made him mad, but we are each in control of our OWN ACTIONS AND CHOICES... She didn't choose to shoot anybody. She didn't choose to make him shoot anybody. Having been in a toxic relationship for two years, I can tell you it’s a vicious cycle. I was threatened for my life many times, until I got pregnant and I lost her through domestic violence I left him and went back to him. When I went back to him I almost died…I hope that if you’re currently in a situation like this, just know it will never change. They always find a way to reel you back in, be it with gifts, promises of it never happening again, doing everything possible to “make it up.” I don’t blame you girls, but just take this as a warning. He will never change, you, your child, sometimes all of you will unfortunately get hurt. My prayers go out to this girl, nobody should have to face something this traumatic after giving birth. I hope this parasite gets what he deserves in jail.

These comments are deplorable. First of all, I apologize to the victims, and the precious little baby involved. The most important fact here is something tragic happened, and lives were unnecessarily lost, due to the defendant's poor decisions. It doesn't matter where she's from, her appearance, nor her dialect. She is there to give her personal testimony; in her own words.
But honestly she enabled that man to do all he did.
There also was an interview shortly after this happened the baby was in the care of CPS , and she said she tried to make eye contact with the first lady that walked in suggesting she could've said something to her to warn her. Then her testimony is different. So I think people are just outraged by the fact she has zero care in the world and cant even speak like shes in a court of law .

Of course I remember when it happened, and I heard when they said it was coming up for trial...but so many cases...Anyway...could you please tell me if you did see it already...if the baby turned out to be this low life idiot's son after all...or not? I am really shocked by the quick judgment others are making of the ex-girlfriend who was in the hospital room recovering from giving birth when the father shot at staff. Can you imagine for ONE SECOND that you JUST GAVE BIRTH -- Your Boyfriend *( who is obviously violent and gang related ) comes to see you and a 1 day old baby DRUNK? He accusers her in a jealous tone of having other people over before him. He attempts to get hold of the 1 day old acting belligerent and demanding. No one knows how it feels to be in a DV relationship and the fear they live everyday and yes ppl have choices but sometimes women do not know how to leave because it’s all they have. I know convicted felons in Texas at least are not even allowed, with the new lenient laws that have been passed about stand your ground right to carry, felons can't own a gun until 5 years after they've been released from prison and off parole or any kind of paper such as probation....and even then, they can only possess a gun at their home to protect them at home! They can't carry it with a anywhere. So I know for sure that in Dallas/ FTW, both of them weren't even supposed to be associating with one another bc they were both felons ( but that's kinda impossible once they are convicts)....neither one of them could legally handle a gun, possess a gun, or own a gun. So I'm pretty sure that's how she skated on charges. If you noticed by her testimony, she was not exactly that forthcoming...having to be prompted by the attorneys, ...I bet they got her to testify against him by using her background and the fact that she knew that gun was there and had been around it as long as she was with him.

The ex girlfriend was in a very serious and sad situation, she witnessed someone lose thier life . All that's important is she was is fear for her and her baby life. It's imperative to stay focused on the person who took 2 lives. I truly hope she seeks professional support for all she encountered that day .

Anyone would be nervous during a cross examination, especially when it appears that the attorney is trying to discredit her. I feel that she did a beautiful job of articulating the events of that horrific day during a time that should have been one of the happiest moments of her life... the birth of her son. Some of you commenters are very calloused and judgemental. This lovely young lady came prepared for her day in court, was respectful to the court officers, and handled the entire situation like a boss. Some of you could take notes on how to conduct yourselves in a formal setting because I can tell by your comments that many of you are too foolish to grasp the level of complexity of this tragic situation. She was not killed, but she will never be the same again. Her son will one day learn that his birth precipitated a chain of horrific events that will scar him for life. Another senseless cowardly act of gun violence that had it been controlled, innocent lives could have been spared. Texas encourages gun violence so this tragedy is just the tip of the iceberg.
Please remember she has been in the court system for crimes of her own. Also, of course, she is in a conducted behavior she's in a courtroom, and in her staments, she tried to answer carefully because she also participated in protecting her ex by hiding the gun. She knew a lot more details to, but gave general answers

Nevertheless, when she gets shipped off to a prison, it will be somewhere in Texas...but will it be in driving distance for selena and son? Well I'm sure she and Nestor have a whole lot of relatives who will take turns driving them to see him every weekend
Most prisoners get sent at least like 4-6hrs away from their homes...on purpose. They don't want it being easy for you. If you get lucky and get sent to a close camp, it's just that, luck.

Listening to this with headphones in makes me feel like I’m at a county fair. The outside noise is absolutely nuts. I digress.
I cannot even fathom this young mother enduring having a newborn, being in the hospital as a brand new mother, hormones all over the place, getting pistol whipped, being told she was going to die today all while physical and emotional mutiny is exploding all around her. To witness all of this unfolding so quickly, nurses being shot and killed while her baby is not even inches away would be natural grounds for an absolute mental breakdown certainly during, but just as much after all was said and done. You would think that a hospital, a maternity ward at that, would be one of the safer places in this sick, depraved, unstable world. I truly hope she is receiving therapy and serious emotional support every single second of her young traumatized life. I cannot imagine losing my mother/sister/daughter/cousin/friend while she was AT WORK, IN A HOSPITAL. So many lives affected by this one psychotic alcoholic menace to society.

I literally gave birth to my son a month prior to her. And to imagine what this mother could have been thinking at that moment while her 1 day old son is sleeping next to her is completely traumatizing. From being abused and hit upside the head with a pistol trying to recover from a c-section!! Not knowing if she would even live another day to see her newborn. This was suppose to be a special moment for her. This is the memory she will have of giving birth to her son. Postpartum is real and it’s tough. Imagine going through it and seeing someone die in front of you. Please be kind to this mother. You don’t know the battle she is fighting!
