    I shape my own boards too, but recently I tried a board that was something I'd never done myself and it was awesome - the Hayden Shapes Holy Hypto.

      That's awesome you also recently had the same experience with trying a different shape than your own. Glad it worked out for you and liked the Holy Hypo,,,,, I'll look that board up and see what it's about. I do really like how the Bobby quad stock model surfs , for a board off the rack I was super happy with how it performed , didn't so much like how it was a PU board glassed with PU resin, it's pretty weak and I've already got tons of tents on the bottom and broke a fin box (funny story for another time). I'm shaping PU foam now but glassing with Epoxy resin, and it's much much stronger. Cheers @spinafex5729

      @@surfprofessor70 Yes, good call, s-glass or basalt (if you like brown) help.

      @@spinafex5729 the best glass I can get down here is warped 4 ounce and its pretty strong with epoxy resin. I didn't mention the materials in this video but should have mentioned that the Bobby Quad is PU foam with PU resin. The upscale version I made is PU foam with Epoxy resin. I usually shape EPS foam, and have been for all of my 30 years making boards, but recently PU US Blanks is the best foam I can get in CR, haven't been able to get the EPS US blanks from my supplier , but he's promising to bring it back soon. I have been enjoying shaping PU foam though, much less to shape off, and WAY easier to manipulate and blend in,,,, taking about half the time to shape a board! I also like the flex that the PU foam provides, and with Epoxy resin it's way stronger and better flex characteristics than if it was glassed with PU resin.

      @@spinafex5729 Just 4 ounce twisted weave , which I believe is S-glass? Its PU foam US blanks Eric Arakawa 6'4 blank., glassed with Epoxy resin (resin research) . I some times use Bi Axel cloth on the deck of my EPS boards, its strong and has crazy good flex pattern, very springy. I'm making the new 5'5 1/2 version of the Bobby quad with EPS foam, and Bi Axel cloth on deck. almost finished! Board Log Vlog Coming soon.

    Bobby quad is a fun board I had a similar experience to you when you said you were a little disappointed in the speed in smaller waves but works good in bigger waves 🤙🏽

    • @surfprofessor70
      @surfprofessor70 7 месяцев назад +1

      @payton2232 exactly, it was a bit confusing at first as to why it was not zippy in small surf, but then after closer inspection I notices those details I talk about in the video, and realized why. If the small wave has super punch it's great, but for gutless waves it's not ideal. If it was EPS epoxy I believe it would be better for small weak waves as it would be much lighter and easier to throw around. This one I bought is PU. with PU resin. I know that if I would have bought an EPS version of this board, would have wanted it 2 inches smaller at 5'4. The one I'm shaping now is EPS and I'm gearing it more towards small to medium waves since it's summer time here.

    What about the Bobby Quad model made that one stand out to you versus the thousands of other models out there? Shaper? Dims? Just curious as to how you think about boards and your thought process selecting one. Im assuming it was an off the rack board aswell not a custom. So thats a consideration to take into account to. New design looks sick love the more tapered and sleeker rail size and outline!

      Hey @michaelrivera6545 , there were a few things that made the Bobby quad stand out from the rest of many many models out there to choose from . One was the fact I'm a huge Bobby Martinez fan for many years, love his surfing and stoked he has been surfing almost only quad boards for years, as I'm really into quads and its my main fin set up of choice. I also for years have been making a board model that's very similar to the Bobby quad , it's my High Performance diamond bat tail biscuit , so this was the closest to my Biscuit board that I know of out on the market . The changes I made to this custom upscale of the Bobby quad is basically how my Bat tail biscuit board model is, bit straighter outline , deeper concave, and more tail rocker . Don't get me wrong, I was super stoked how the Bobby Quad performed right off the bat(especially for a boards coming off the rack) , the waves got really good in San Diego for the last two months I was there, and I used the board in a wide range of waves and conditions. It worked insane at overhead Blacks! It really comes alive in a head high to over head open faced wave, so much control and carves very clean! In small waves I wasn't as impressed but it still worked fine. If it was a EPS version of the board I would have liked it more for small waves I believe, cause it would have been much lighter and easier to throw around on turns. It's been working really well here in Costa Rica on the good days, but I got to my twin fin custom board for small waves. I'm almost finished with the 5'5 version for myself , and excited to try it out soon!! Glad you could visually see the changes I made to the upscale, and thanks for the props. Pura Vida!

      @michaeldill7620 I'm actually finishing the new version shape today, then start glassing in the days to come. Needed to play catch up on custom orders first. Super excited about it, and the shape is coming out exactly how I want, just need to turn the rails and shape in the tail details. Will do a board log vlog on that when its all finished, and then another one on riding both boards and seeing /feeling the results between the two boards,,,, looking forward to that !

    I bought one of your boards and then made it better.

    • @surfprofessor70
      @surfprofessor70 7 месяцев назад +1

      @adamcoyne9574. well that's the ideal. I'm not saying I can make a better version than the Bobby Quad, but I'm sure gonna try. After shaping and making boards for 30 years it's gonna be a good test for me to see if it's possible to make myself a better board than one of the most prestigious board companies in the world . If I fail, no big deal I'll will keep trying.I will also have my team rider Matias Braun ridiing both boards on the day we compare them in the line up in same conditiions , as to get a better assessment. In all retrospect, I need to do a better more detailed review on the Bobby quad experience, as I've had some amazing session on it in head high to over head waves, especially at Blacks Beach a few months ago on over head days it worked like a dream.
