Arry's works because they are generational.People don't move out of Montebello. They sponsor all the High School Sports. Our kids go to the same High School that their Parents,Grandparents went to...After the games on Friday night, after the club at 2 am...The staff has served you since you were a kid...and you bring your pregnant girl there for whatever she's craving...
Growing up my mom & I would go hang out w/ all the Low Rider clubs that would convene at Montbello Park and then we would go to Arry's for some food as it was her favorite spot to eat and she was friends with the owner and their boys at the time. I still go to Arry's 40years later and get their Chili Cheese Fries and still consider them the best Chili Cheese Fries I have ever had.
BTW, I've been going to Arry's for 50 years since I was in high school. Regularly get their pastrami sandwich combo with half fries, half onion rings. The best and everyone is always friendly. And they put out the delicious food fast in the drive-thru. Unlike Farmer Boys which can be good, too, but geez, their drive-thru can take forever by comparison. Their breakfast items are equally delicious with good portions, too.
Mines is Douglas Burgers in North Long Beach Ca on Long Beach Blvd. We called them grease shacks but they were/are a major staple in Los Angeles. Just in my neighborhood alone I could hit up probably 5-10 easily within a 2 mile radius...
I moved from LA to SD, and thou I love the food down here, im absolutely missing the greasy spoon spots. Mine was called Everest, would get the double avocado bacon cheeseburger was always my go-to.
omg ive always told my friends who didn't grow up in LA about the like the 2 unsung LA staples - the burger joints that sell mexican food (you can thank tommy burger for that!) and all the donut shops. (i know taco trucks etc but those are well known, these 2 are like super popular but nobody really talks about how prevalent they are compared to most other cities!)
Arry’s is so dope because the dudes are yelling at you “what do you want to order?” as you barely walk in and somehow your order is up before you’re done paying.
My favorite burger spota has always been Tams Tom's Jimmy's etc. The charbroiled flagor of the burgers is better than any fast food place, maybe except in n out which is on a flat iron.
Most of those places are Greek owned, my great grandpa moved to America from Greece and couldn't speak English so be joined the army and became a cook. He moved to LA and opened one of those spots up. I think Tommy's was Greek owned too. I love Arry's in Montebello too!
Arrys is the only spot that there portions match there price and there chili cheese fries they only pack the whole box some spots it’s the medium box or big box but half
Yes, we owe them a debt in East LA, Boyle Heights and the surrounding area. My local burger joint was Jim's Burgers. There used to be many on the Eastside. Sadly, my childhood Jim's joint is a faint shadow of its former self. I've noticed other Jim's restaurants called by different names now. I wonder what happened to the Greek family who ran this chain of restaurants.
Lol no they are not. Low quality ingredients with bad value are going extinct little by little. These burger shacks are starting to charge over $10 for a paper thin patty, a small fountain drink, and mostly fries. Plus they put big pieces of tomatoes and a gang of cabbage or lettuce to make it seem huge. Chili cheese fries are mostly cheese and fries with very little chili as well.
Facts. I mean live your best life but at some point you gotta consider the future and he seems to gain more weight every year. I just want him to be alright.
L🌴A has a lot of Really Good Food Spots but, We are known for Burgers 🍔 Spots!!! The World 🌍 knows In-N-Out & Fatburger but, every neighborhood as Their Local Burger 🍔 Spot!!!! My Neighborhood Burger 🍔 Spot was Steven’s Burgers on Normandie & El Segundo!!! We are also known for Bomb Mexican Food but, I give the Best Mexican Food Award in The States to San Diego!!! Daygo has Taco 🌮 Spots like We have Burger 🍔 Spots!!!
Seriously! I wish he’d take care of his health. With success you gotta consider the future. He can barely fit in the booth at Arry’s, it’s not good. Every year he gets bigger. I just want him to be alright. I hope he wises up and turns it around.
I would argue that these types of eateries are not your classic greasy spoon diners. These are fast food burger joints, first and foremost. They just also happen to sell a bunch of other great stuff. To me, a greasy spoon diner is a sit down restaurant with a counter, tables, booths, and servers. Places like Nick's and the Pantry in DTLA. Or, Cindy's in Eagle Rock, Tommy's Family Restaurant in Monterey Park. Or, Eva's Restaurant in Bell Gardens. Or, Pop's Cafe and Arthur's restaurant in Downey. Or, Astro Family Restaurant on Fletcher in LA. Or, Millie's on Sunset in LA. These joints are NOT diners.
Not true. The Golden Ox is good, too, but I prefer the pastrami at Arry's. The Golden Ox was too greasy and their portions are not as generous as Arry's.

From Boyle heights and I didn’t know this that’s so cool for you guys in Montebello, love our Jims, Tom’s, and George’s here in our side of town
My wife and I had our first order of chili fries from Arry's. Back when we were still young and innocent. Lol
Sounds fuckin beautiful
I need to go!!!

That’s so awesome!! It’s been a few weeks since we shot and I’m still thinking about those DUI fries
As a Compton native, Tam's is my nostalgic burger. No longer in Cali, but everytime I go back, I'm definitely fuckin some Tam's up for sure😅
Tam's is another great longtime eatery.
Shout out to the editor Hunter, mans killed it on this video
Best breakfast burritos come these type of joints, thin cut pastrami sandwiches, chili peppers on the side, etc. Hangover cures.
💯
Yes, or have their great breakfast items, too.
I live in NorCal the Bay Area but visit LA about 5 times a year. I agree that LA has best best greasy spoon culture in the US, simply amazing.
When I was living in the Bay, I couldn’t find a greasy spoon burger that tasted like the ones from SoCal.
Shoutout to Norm’s Char-Broiled Burgers in Whittier! One of my all-time favorite greasy spoon joints 🍔😋
Loved this episode!!!
Shout-out to Astro Burgers, Jim's, Douglas in Whittier, Tams, Frisco's keeping the LA vibe alive.
BTW, I've been going to Arry's for 50 years since I was in high school. Regularly get their pastrami sandwich combo with half fries, half onion rings. The best and everyone is always friendly. Never thought arrys would be getting some praise like this
Arry's and Astro Burger will forever remind me of skating from city to city in my youth with the homies. Or going there after a gig got raided early.
Honorable mentions are Doublz, Garduno's and Tommy's, respectively.
I moved from LA to SD, and thou I love the food down here, im absolutely missing the greasy spoon spots. Mine was called Everest, would get the double avocado bacon cheeseburger was always my go-to.
Man, that sounds delicious.
the fried mushrooms there are crazy, you cant find them anywhere else

Been going to Arrys for at least 30 years. Chili cheese fries and pastrami yum.
Same - I just had that same order last week. Took my son for the first time.
Used to cruise Whittier Blvd from my hometown (Whittier) to Montebello back in the mid-late 80s. We'd end up at Arry's late night.
Im praying for Alvin. He has less than 10 years at this rate. And its his family that loses out.
??
"What makes LA food unique?"
"It's LA, man"
Bruh DUI fries are my childhood -- Anaheim, Fullerton, Orange
Yes,Arry's and George's are very good 🤤..but y'all need to go to Lincoln Heights on Main St for Dino's.. super iconic, Fricken Delicious 😋
I noticed a Dino's in Montebello or Pico Rivera on Washington. I wonder if they're related? It opened not that long ago. I got to check it out.
@@mrxman581 Negative negative....not the same !!!! Please try the one in Lincoln Heights 🙏....
Triple chili cheese at Tommy's - the bomb after a bar crawl back in the day 😂
My favorite burger spota has always been Tams Tom's Jimmy's etc. The charbroiled flagor of the burgers is better than any fast food place, maybe except in n out which is on a flat iron.
LA truly is special
Frank’s and Charlie’s were my go to when I was a mechanic
Jim’s burger on 1st and State. Coleslaw!!! Throw it on top of your fries.
Ayyyy just had that last night
THESE PLACES HAVE THE BEST BREAKFAST!!!!
❤❤❤
I know, right?

These places are the best. Probably the unhealthiest restaurants, but probably also the tastiest.
Arry's breakfast burritos are where it's at
Alvin doesn’t look like he shares anything. Who is he kidding
Dumb. Quit fat shaming
That's uncalled for. I guess you have 0% body fat and you are in perfect physical shape... if not STFU
I’m just wondering how people allow themselves to get that heavy
@@Westcoast10 you gon stay wonderin
I was born and raised in Los Angeles. I have visited quite a few cities, and nothing compares to LA. I wouldn't live anywhere else on earth.
My version of this is Tams. Of course, every Tams is different, but the Paramount one by North Long Beach is hitting every time.
Arrys is the only spot that there portions match there price and there chili cheese fries they only pack the whole box some spots it’s the medium box or big box but half
Arrys and Doublz are my go to’s
I watched till the end... explore donut shops in California like this video plzzz

Yesssssirrrr this what we grew up on
Thank you Greeks. Burger shacks are the best.

Lit, I was at arry’s with my cousin who on Thursday. Well, I do live a mile down the road haha
Hell yeah, jealous. Wish it wasn’t a drive for us!
Alvin gotta chill
Facts. I mean live your best life but at some point you gotta consider the future and he seems to gain more weight every year.
I just want him to be alright.
I love these greasy wops!
Arry’s was always the late night spot for me and hb in Pico Rivera. Best pastrami imo.
All about the Hat and Tam’s frfr
Heart attack meal.
06:16 They got flies😂
Never heard of greasy spoon. Everyone i know just calls it the charbroiled place
Shout out to Pico Rivera!!! Jim's Burgers on Passons/Telegraph!! Best Chili cheese fries and home to the original dui!!
I miss Chris Burgers on Crenshaw and Vernon. It wasn't the best but it was ours
Not really a diner per se, but man... the original The Hat with the pastrami burger and chili fries...
I miss these type of restaurants specifically the chili cheese fries from Louis burgers
Amboy burger is spectacular 🥹 every time hits
it doesn’t even sound like they’re talking to each other lol
Fellas let’s not forget Jim’s Burgers on first st and state st in Boyle Heights
Ask for the pastrami madness
I live down the street from arry's its a staple of montebello.
Alvin get your stomach off the table
Arrys … best pastrami in LA
Never heard of this place been in LA 50 years.
The tacos are the bomb
Gotta go over the bridge to PICO to the original DUI fries

What do you call these types of eateries?
I appreciate this video, but these are not the definition of greasy spoons. Great video though.
my brother Alvin. its called Ozempic. for your health bro please
Every video I see Alvin in I think could be the last time…

Fuck yea I grew up on tams. I used to go there after school all the time cuz they had cheeseburgers for a dollar fat ass burgers for a dollar 😂
As an arrys fan I miss arrays from 10 years ago 💯🤷♂️ still good but not the same

Most important restaurant to who ?
Arrys is so below mid 😂😂 rather go to johns 😋🔥
Arry's sucks, im sorry. 10 years ago it was good, its only gone down hill. Go to Golden OX down the street, MUCH better.
Not true. The Golden Ox is good, too, but I prefer the pastrami at Arry's. The Golden Ox was too greasy and their portions are not as generous as Arry's.
Shit food for people on a budget.
That’s the point clown, but you’re too much of a snob really understand
