Though there are many great pastrami restaurants around, this tour only covers pastrami spots that are within the city of LA, as stated in the video description, and not LA County as a whole. Sorry to disappoint with what was left out.
My friend and I stayed in downtown LA on 4th off Spring. We were in walking distance from one of the really great landmarks in downtown. Philippe’s the Original is across the street from Union Station. They have the original French Dip, and it’s available in several meats. I’m a sucker for their lamb dip.
Belgian Fries are cooked in beef tallow, that's why they taste so good. Every fast-food joint cooked their fries in beef tallow (pre 1990s) before they were pressured into using seed oil by health activist who didn't know better.
Brent's in Northridge is amazing. I've been going there for 30 years. Incredible pastrami and the best corned beef I ever had. Their rye bread is my favorite too. Really nice servers there also.
johnie’s in jefferson park is under new ownership. all of the sides are different than what it was famous for for many years. to their credit, the new owners kept the old smoky pastrami flavor but raised the price of everything quite a bit. the place looks a lot better too, but it’s sad that the original owners weren’t able to hold on to that iconic establishment
I forgot to write just how much im wanting the Hat now, so i'm heading out to Alhambra from Rosemead for an order of The Hats chili cheese fries & pastrami @8:30pm on Friday 08/16/24.
I’ve been many times to Johnny’s Pastrami on Sepulveda in West LA. I don’t think they have that Marble Rye sandwich, but it’s been too long. I need to go to Langer’s! One thing you neglected to mention. The subway station is literally right across the street. Red and Purple (I forget the new letter designation) lines. Oinkster is new to me. All looked amazing. To continue your journey, you must go to Brent’s in Northridge which is Los Angeles. The Black Pastrami Reuben is to die for. Well, a heart attack is guaranteed. LOL. The Hat, Canter’s Deli on Fairfax many famous deli’s in LA have closed, sadly.
My family used to own that property for decades. Back then, people used to lined up a few blocks. Everybody's favorite place, and no damage during LA riot even nearby Pep-Boys were burnt down. There was no side menu. Just pastrami and pickles and peppers. Not greasy at all, they used to give chunks of meat, i had to put some on side. It was awesome.
After growing up in the San Gabriel Valley since 1970, I am biased for The World Famous Pastrami by The Original Hat on the corner of Garfield & Valley in Alhambra AND both Tops Burgers in Pasadena are also have amazing pastrami. Weather it's Tops on Walnut & Hill St or Tops on East Colorado, there both equally good. BTW; not all Hat restaurants are created equal. The Hat in the city of Glendora and city of Rosemead are subpar compared to the Original Hat in Alhambra which never lets down, the pastrami meat is always soft and thin cut but packed on, the Au-Jus from the pastrami meat is damn amazing and why I always get my bun double dipped.
@kenwatanabe7712……I agree! I’ve been going there for 40 years! Johnnie’s Pastrami in Culver City has always been, and will always be THE very best place for pastrami sandwiches. Johnnie’s is the only place where the bread is not soggy and gross, and the pastrami is tender and delish. Can we also talk about the pickles on the table, AND the hot mustard mixed with ketchup to dip the fries into?!? OMG! I want to go to Johnnie’s now! LOL
@@finchman1it's not the same! Like the old days! That was our go to spot! I haven't tried this place since they opened bck up! I will try them... one day.

After 100s of pastrami sandwiches I've never regretted eating one in SoCal. My favorite place goes to the HAT. Sadly I moved to LV a couple years ago and still haven't found one decent pastrami :(
I had The Hat many times but my favorite for the last 25 years is De Simone Deli in Huntington Beach. Give it a try if you're in the area. It has mozzarella cheese (but pickles are extra) and has less, but higher quality meat, giving it the perfect meat to bread ratio.
Langer's is an institution, #19. I forgot all about Jonnie's Pastrami. I used to stop in at least once a week over 30 years ago when i was in my teens and was a delivery driver, i'd stop in for a pastrami dip. So good!
$24 FOR A PASTRAMI SANDWICH? IN A BROKEN DOWN NEIGHBORHOOD FULL OF PARK ADDICTS? GO TO BROWNS BAKERY IN THE VALLEY and get their twice baked double Rye. Used by Brents , Buy the Pastrami package at Costco, Enjoy 6 to 8 big sandwiches as good as Langers for about $5 per.

@@sarahbaartmansrevenge Sorry, Johnny's on Adams and Montclaire (near Crenshaw) was the best pastrami, especially if you got the double dip. I've been to the Culver City location near Titos Tacos, it's good, but not as good as the one on Adams.

When I make pastrami French dip sandwiches, I add Giardiniera, the Italian pickled assorted vegetables. I do this because the Chicago Italian beef sandwich is also a French dip, and a Chicago-style French dip sandwich without the Giardiniera has a key component missing.
Based on this video, we went to the Oinkster last night! Reuben blew the Oinkster sandwich out of the water. However…it definitely needs more kraut and dressing. Prices are a bit high here, but food was solid. Oh!! They make their own sauces including the ketchup lol!

Go try the Pastrami Sandwich at Canter's Deli in Los Angeles. I believe it's on Fairfax Ave. You'll enjoy it, I guarantee.
